Siberian cats are a beautiful aboriginal breed that is very popular among Russians. This is not surprising - animals are famous for excellent health, endurance, while they are very communicative and agreeable, with a well-developed intellect. But the main feature of "Siberians" is a gorgeous coat, the color of which can vary from snow-white to black.

Peculiarities

The Siberian cat breed was formed almost naturally. Representatives of this breed are distinguished by chic fur, huge expressive eyes, rather large body sizes and a wide, fluffy tail. She can be called a forest cat, fearless and courageous. But nevertheless, she has a kind and accommodating character.

Siberian cats are much larger than females. Body weight depends on gender - females weigh on average 4-5 kg, and males 6-8, although there are cats whose weight reaches 12-14 kg.

Today, there are more than 200 color options for Siberian cats, although not all of them are recognized as the standard. There are several main groups: uniform, tortie, smoky, bicolor, colorpoint and tabby.

The difference in palette is so striking that Siberian cats are often confused with other breeds. In order to avoid mistakes, it is worth remembering that, regardless of the color of the coat, constitutional features remain unchanged. The animals are distinguished by a powerful skeleton, strong paws, and a large head resembling a blunt triangle.

By the way, Siberian cats and cats can be shorthaired. This subspecies has a thick, "plush" coat, and the colors are as varied as those of their fluffy relatives.

Recognized colors

All representatives of this breed differ from each other only in color. Moreover, the variety of colors of this cat is huge. The breed standard permits all colors except chocolate and lilac. It is possible to divide all varieties into several groups:

  • solid uniform;
  • two-color (bicolor);
  • tortoiseshell;
  • colorpoint;
  • smoky;
  • tabby.

Representatives of various shades and colors may also be present in these groups. Let's get acquainted in more detail with the types of colors of this beautiful cat.

Solid - this is the name for the uniform monochromatic color of Siberian cats. Its peculiarity is the complete absence of stripes, tan marks and spots, each section of the coat is dyed evenly from the base to the tip of the hair. There are several color subgroups within this group.

Red

We used to call this color red, but its official name according to the standard is red. A Siberian cat of this color is luxurious and unique: an impressive fiery fur coat and large amber eyes. Unlike ordinary "ginger" cats, the coat color of a thoroughbred cat is uniform, without blotches, any pattern, patterns and spots.

A large, bright red cat, with a luxurious fur coat - a purr of stunning beauty. His nose and pads are red or pink.

Interestingly, the gene O (orange), which is responsible for red, is tied to the sex of the animal. As a rule, males are monochromatic - red or black, but females are characterized by a tortoiseshell color, which includes both of these colors.

Blue

Siberian cats of this color are very popular with connoisseurs of the breed. The shade of their coat is quite characteristic - a noble ash gray. A fluffy, voluminous coat of this color looks very elegant and shimmers beautifully in the sun. At the same time, there should not be a clearly defined pattern according to the standard; the effect is achieved due to a smooth, almost imperceptible transition of several shades of gray.

But such a cat is appreciated not only because of its external beauty. It is believed that it is they who are the most flexible and communicative. But at the same time, they are quite independent and completely unobtrusive, therefore they will not irritate the owner with increased attention.

Black

If all wool is dyed black, it is solid-faded. The black Siberian cat is black everywhere. The coat, the paw pads, the tip of the nose are all the same resinous color. According to the standard, not the slightest deviation from this rule is allowed.... A rich black is appreciated, without spots of other tones, without a gray undercoat and a brown tint.

In kittens, the coat is usually with a shade of gray or brown, but then it changes and becomes completely black. According to the standard, it should be completely black, including the fingers and nose.

Tiger black is recognized as the most common color in Russia. The black Siberian is often confused with representatives of other breeds, since they do not assume the possibility of this color option in a Siberian cat.

People who are poorly versed in breeds are sincerely surprised when they find out that this big, fluffy beast, which is blacker than blackness itself, is a purebred Siberian aborigine.

Cream

This Siberian has soft, pastel-colored wool, medium cream or cream shades. Each hair is evenly colored along its entire length. Its nose, like the pads on its feet, is pink.

Gold

The main sign of a golden color is the apricot color of a part of the hair. Depending on the length of this part relative to the length of the entire hair, shaded and chinchillas can be golden. The eyes of golden Siberians are usually green.

Smoky

The iridescent coat of the smoky Siberian cats, when combined with light and clear eyes, makes them very attractive. The hair of this cat's coat has a smoky shade only at the tip, and at the very skin it gradually turns into completely white. This gives the cat a special charm.

Tortoiseshell

The tortoiseshell color is distinguished by a mosaic combination of multi-colored spots. There should be spots of red and cream shades here, without forming a pattern. The proportional ratio of shades and harmony between them is the requirement of the breed standard.

Kittens

The color of a kitten always depends only on the color of the parents, regardless of the color of other relatives. The maternal color is usually obtained from a male kitten. The small cat gets a mixture of colors of the parents.

For example, from a black cat and a black or blue cat, kittens of both sexes can be black or blue. With a mother of tortoiseshell tones and a black father, children are possible: black, blue, red and tortoiseshell, blue-cream and cream. The same kittens will appear in a pair of a tortoiseshell cat and a blue cat. If you want to get kittens red or cream, then mom should be of this shade, and dad needs red. When crossing a tortoiseshell cat and a cream cat, babies can be born in eight different colors.

There is a special table for calculating the color of kittens depending on the color of the parents.

Drawn cats

In patterned colors of representatives of this breed of hair, it is colored by zones. There is an alternation of black and yellow 3-4 times. This type of color is called wild.

Tabby

Under this incomprehensible word hides the usual color of the Siberian cat - striped or spots. This is the most common color for all representatives of this breed. Light brownish wool with a gray tint, depending on the light, may appear greenish with a golden tint. It is considered the wild, natural color of Siberians. This tone helps predators hide while hunting.

Marble

Marble tabby differs from other types of coloring pattern. Two stripes, passing vertically along the head, on the shoulders form a semblance of butterfly wings and turn into spirals in the lateral region. Two narrow and one wider stripes run along the back and sides. The pattern is usually symmetrical. Often the tone alternates between black and gold.

Striped

The tabby color is striped along the entire ridge, there is an alternation of light and dark stripes of approximately the same width.

White color and combinations with it

This option is incredibly effective.

White

The cat's hair does not have any stains or impurities of other colors. This, by the way, often misleads some people. A boiling white cat of this breed, without the slightest hint of the presence of other flowers, can be mistaken for a breed called the Turkish Angora.

Sometimes there are animals with sky-blue eyes. This spectacle is incredibly beautiful, but, alas, it is a sure recessive sign of hereditary deafness in an animal. But heterochromia - a different color of the iris - does not entail hearing problems, so odd-eyed cats are absolutely healthy.

The tip of the nose and paw pads of the snow-white "Siberians" are pale pink, the coat is long and thick, requiring regular combing, although its structure is more rigid and not prone to tangles.

Bicolor

Bicolor is a combination of two colors in the coloring of an animal. The main color can be tortoiseshell or solid. White, on the other hand, occupies from a third to half of the surface of a cat's fur coat, with clear color boundaries. Very interesting patterns can be found in this combination. For example, a white tip of the tail with white socks on the paws, as well as a white bottom and a black top.

Acromelanic colors

One of the representatives of this color is the Neva Masquerade. Has a different intensity of color in different parts of the body. The paws, ears, tail and muzzle are darker. Everything else is ivory or light beige. The name was given to the place of original breeding, which is St. Petersburg.

The eyes are usually blue or blue in these cats.

And also points belong to acromelanic colors. They differ from the Neva in shades of darkened places.The shades can be completely different: from red to brown, and from pastel to black.

Regardless of the coat color, the Siberian cat is a wonderful pet that will become a full member of the family and will give its owner many pleasant minutes. They live for a long time - up to 20 years, do not require unnecessary care, are perfectly trained, so the owners usually do not have problems with toilet training. By the way, the wool of "Siberians" is considered hypoallergenic, so the presence of a cat or a cat in the house will not entail any negative consequences for allergy sufferers.

The variety of colors of modern Siberian beauties and beauties is the merit of breeders.

In accordance with modern standards, even the most exotic colors are permissible in this breed, and the color of the eyes is also varied in relation to color. In other breeds, such liberties are absolutely unacceptable.

Great article! I was surprised to learn that there are short-haired Siberians. I always thought it was a mestizo with an ordinary European cat.

The Siberian breed appeared long before the 90s ... This is an aboriginal forest breed, it has been known for hundreds of years. Another thing is that it was brought to a single standard. And they tried to do this long before the 90s, but Western experts did not want to recognize it in any way ... Why, such competition, and even from Russia!
