If you want to get not just a beautiful domestic animal, but a devoted friend, then you should pay attention to Thai cats. These are affectionate yet dignified animals that have won the hearts of many cat owners. Graceful creatures from afar attract attention due to their habits and expressive blue eyes. In this article, we will tell the history of the origin of these cats and list their main differences from representatives of other breeds.

Origin story

As the name suggests, the history of the breed began in Thailand. It is derived from the Old Siamese breed and has a special color, head shape and body curves. Like their relatives, cats lived in Buddhist temples and palaces. These purrs were so expensive that the common people could not afford it. It was believed that after the death of the owner, they accompanied his soul to the kingdom of the dead.

They were invited to the funeral processions of noble persons, and then taken to the temple, where Thai cats lived in luxurious conditions: they ate from gold dishes and slept on luxurious expensive pillows. Everything so that animals that have a connection with the upper world can help the owner to gain God's grace.

The ancestors of the Thais, Old Siamese cats, have been known to man since at least the XIV century. They can be seen in miniatures of the collection "Book of Poems about Cats", a rarity at the National Library of Bangkok. The beauties were named in it only as shining diamonds.These animals could not be taken out of Thailand, but in the 19th century they were brought to European countries - two kittens were presented to the British general. After leaving the homeland, the Old Siamese breed began to undergo selection, and the Thai and Siamese breeds received a separate status.

Graceful blue-eyed Thais immediately conquered the English nobility, even Queen Victoria, who settled the beauties in her domain, could not resist their charms. The Thai breed was officially approved only in 1990, and a year later its standard appeared. In our country, taeks are very fond, they are bred in nurseries, where everyone can buy a kitten with a pedigree and documents.

Description

The structure of the cat looks harmonious. According to the characteristics of the standard, Thais are of medium size, not too high at the withers, compact, and have well-developed muscles. Purring weight ranges from 4 to 6 kg, cats look smaller than males and have a more graceful body.

The head has the shape of an apple or, as it is also called, a drop, is neatly rounded at the end, does not have angular or flattened outlines. The length of the muzzle is medium, the chin looks rather powerful, but not too large, the cheeks stand out in males. The ears, like the nose, are of medium size, set wide apart. If you draw lines from their tips to the tip of the nose, you should get a right-angled triangle. The eyes have a more rounded lower part, colored in various shades from blue to blue.

The neck is shorter in males than in females, the body is compact and well-developed pectoral muscles. The paws are also well developed, the tail tapering smoothly towards the tip. The fine coat has a medium amount of undercoat.

Character traits

The character traits of these purrs are in their curiosity and obedience, which is very popular with their owners. The muzzle almost always has the expression as if the cat is trying to understand what is happening, which is conducive to contact. She likes to participate in any activities of the household, but if you ask her not to interfere, she will accept this wish.

If the animal is closed indoors alone, then it will meow plaintively. In the case when the cat herself wants to be alone, she can go into an empty room and be there alone with her thoughts. When a kitten has just crossed the threshold of your house, then his need for communication is extremely high. Leaving him alone at the moment of meeting a new house in a confined space is strongly discouraged, otherwise it will be difficult for him to trust his new owners.

These smart girls quickly understand how to open and close doors, looking at a person, they can start putting food in their mouths. Natural observation allows her to quickly find the owner in the apartment, as she remembers where he is most often at this time.

A non-conflict, playful Thai woman quickly finds contact with all family members, including children. In rare exceptions, too emotional purrs are jealous of their beloved owner or hostess and for this reason they dislike the child. Also, these proud creatures can take offense at children if they allow themselves to hurt them in games. You need to explain to your children that you need to handle the cat with care, and demonstrate this by your example. The Thai woman usually has nothing against dogs, so don't worry if you already have a four-legged friend.

How many years do they live?

Taiki are cats that live a long life - on average, its duration is 17 years. Of course, the natural longevity of this breed must be supported by comfortable living conditions and good nutrition. So that these active minxes are not injured during the games, which they like to attach so much, you need to follow some safety rules:

  • secure shelves and other heavy interior elements well so that they do not fall on your purr;
  • put anti-cat netting on the windows;
  • keep away from the curious pet cutting objects, needles, fragile dishes, as well as threads in which it can get entangled;
  • Hide from the cat what it can swallow: bags, toxic detergents, medicines and dangerous plants such as ivy;
  • it is recommended to walk taeks on a leash.

Types of color

Most often, Thai cats have seal-point colors. It is characterized by a slightly darkened body and black markings on the mask, tips of the legs and tail. But there are other colors that are considered more rare, but have no less beauty:

  • blue point - they have gray not only marks characteristic of the breed, but also the nose, as well as the pads;
  • checklet point - chocolate mask, tips of paws and tail are located on a white background;
  • lilac point - combines white and delicate lilac shades, cats have almost pink nose and pads;
  • red point - suggests a pale cream body color and red markings;
  • cream point - the white body is adorned with cream markings;
  • cake - tortoiseshell color;
  • tabby - color with a pattern.

Don't be surprised to see a completely white Thai kitten. His coat will begin to change color over time, from the nose and cheeks. It will acquire the final color only a year or even later. You can judge the color of the baby by the color of the parents.

Conditions of detention

Taeks cannot be called fussy, they easily adapt to new conditions. But, if you are going to have a kitten of this breed, get everything you need in advance for his comfortable life. There is practically no need to comb out the hair of these beautiful cats, since they are not very fluffy, and this breed is not long-haired. It is enough to walk on their fur coat with a damp hand weekly. They do not need to be specially washed in the bath.

Usually these neat little ones do an excellent job of targeting a marathon themselves. They may need water procedures if they get seriously dirty while walking or in the house, during active games.

Thai cats, like everyone else, love to sharpen their claws. To do this, they need a scratching post, otherwise furniture and other interior items that your pet deems suitable for grinding may be damaged. Tall claws with poles work well for them, as cats love to climb up. At the same time, they also manage to "make a pedicure", since the claws of the hind legs also need to be periodically sharpened.

Teeth and ears need no more care than other cats. Usually, the latter can be kept in a healthy state by feeding the animals with dry food. For the prevention of parasites, standard feline preparations are given.

Having barely bought a kitten, many owners are faced with the problem of training to the litter box. By the age of 3 weeks, Thai kittens usually know the place to put the litter box. Since they are very intelligent, if desired, they can be easily taught to go to the toilet. If the baby did not have time to learn the rules of hygiene at home from the cat-mother or the owner, then you will have to cope with the role of a teacher. For a successful process, follow the guidelines below:

  • show the kid a tray with filler, put it in it so that he can smell everything and get to know the place of the toilet;
  • if you see that the kitten is already doing its business in the wrong place, moisten a cloth or piece of paper with urine and put it in the tray, and then put the kitten there;
  • do not dunk his face in a puddle, this can offend the kitten and discourage him from any desire to master the toilet.

In most cases, kittens end up in a new family already trained in the tricks of going to the toilet. You just have to ask the breeders what kind of litter they used for the toilet and buy the same one. In the early days, make sure that the baby does not forget his skill in the new home, and, if possible, watch for him.

What to feed?

A balanced diet of a Thai cat from childhood will be the key to her health during maturation, which means she will be able to bring more kittens with excellent health.This statement is true for both cats and cats. As soon as the baby appears in your home, you need to immediately organize his food correctly. Make sure that the ratio of certain substances in the cat's diet is correct. The menu must meet the following requirements.

  1. Rationality. Determine your pet's calorie and nutrient needs. Based on this, calculate the amount of servings, since both a lack and an excess of food will negatively affect the health of the pet.
  2. Balance. Food for a cat should be varied and include all the necessary ingredients: vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.
  3. Quality. The food must comply with the safety requirements for the product.

For these cats, the same recommendations apply as for other breeds. If you are an adherent of natural nutrition, then products such as lean meats, ideally beef, rabbit and poultry, cottage cheese, yolks, eggs, are suitable as a source of protein. Boiled pork, boneless fish is allowed. It is better to give Thais exactly river fish, and if there is a lot of sea fish in his diet, then his fur coat may become darker. The same goes for seafood.

It's all about iodine, which are rich in the gifts of the ocean. You should not arrange a carnival of tastes for your purr, according to veterinarians, food familiar to a cat is better absorbed by its digestive system. Sometimes it's helpful to add a teaspoon of vegetable oil to your cat's meals. This will be beneficial for digestion. Butter, within reasonable limits, will also only benefit her - the coat will become more shiny and healthy.

Healthy, but not always desirable foods for a cat on her table will be non-coloring vegetables, as well as sprouted wheat. If your pet agrees to eat it, then you can only be glad for her, because these products are very useful. Porridge cooked in water can be an equally good addition to the daily diet.

Prohibited foods such as fried, fatty, smoked foods, sweets - they may contain the destructive substance theobromine for cats, vegetables that can stain the cat's hair. When it comes to commercial feed, the super premium or holistic varieties are best. Among them there are products designed specifically for point-colored breeds, as well as pure white animals.

In nature, cats are eaten many times a day, depending on when the prey turns up. Of course, in a home environment, providing an animal with 10 meals a day is very problematic, so just make sure that there is always fresh food on its plate, and water in the cup. Having liquid freely available is very important for cats, and especially for those who eat a lot of dry food.

Numerous studies indicate that with the constant use of this type of food, even the highest class, urinary tract diseases occur twice as often as in animals that do not eat it.

Health

Thai cats are prone to dental diseases. Therefore, ideally, in addition to a handful of dry food, they need more serious measures for prevention, namely preventive examinations by veterinarians. After all, if a cat begins to lose teeth, this can cause her a lot of problems. Natives of a hot country, Thais do not tolerate too low temperatures. If the apartment has a cool climate or drafts are frequent, the pussy may suffer from frequent colds.

It is recommended for cats to walk outside on a leash, so you can prevent the cat from eating questionable food or even non-edible things. Veterinarians advise to start promenades only after the necessary vaccinations are affixed. However, it is not necessary for them to go out for walks - if the animal does not show initiative, then it is not worth pulling it out into the fresh air by force.

If you do not expect kittens from your pet or pet, sterilize him.By doing this on time, about six months, you will prevent the instinct of procreation from developing in the cat, and it will never occur to her to arrange concerts. It is especially important to castrate cats, since boys who have not undergone this procedure are constantly marking everything in a row, which leads to an unpleasant odor in the house.

Growing up

Taking a Thai cat kitten to their home, many are perplexed when to start raising him, because this tiny lump is not yet used to the new environment. For further training in the rules of behavior to be successful, it is worth starting with love. Your baby will feel this by seeing how you diligently create comfortable conditions for him, prepare food, talk to him and stroke him. It is especially important to cheer up the cat when he does something right, for example, goes to the toilet where it needs to be.

As a rule, from the second week of life, kittens are trying to organize the opportunity for games, during which they will learn about the world, develop their mind and physical skills. By contacting people, kids become sociable and open. By the age of one month, a small kitten can already eat food that is consumed by adult animals.

He is also starting to drink water instead of milk. Then the baby will develop very quickly, and you just have to educate him in a timely manner. And, of course, enjoy this wonderful age, when he learns the world around him, plays all the time and gives all the inhabitants of the house pleasant emotions.

Breeding

Most owners buy Thai cats because they fall under their charm. However, if you want to breed these beauties for sale, then you should find out what are the subtleties of breeding this breed. For the first mating, the optimal age is considered to be a year and a half, at least a year. Puberty in animals can occur at 4 months, however, at this age, neither the male nor the female are ready to become parents.

A mating made between individuals that are too young can lead to health problems in both. In this case, cats have a high probability of difficult childbirth, and cats have early problems with conceiving offspring. Kids in such unions also do not win, they often have health problems, and some even die right away.

The first mating for the male is important to arrange in his house. This will give him self-confidence and allow him to successfully cope with the task. Usually, shortly before the date, the animals are prepared - they are given prophylactic remedies for worms, they are given a "manicure" so that they do not scratch each other during mating games.

For successful mating, the kitten is usually left with the cat for a period of 3 to 5 days. It doesn't make sense to keep them together any longer. The most productive days for mating in a cat are days 2 and 4. After the allotted time, pay attention to the behavior of the female. If she calmly lets the cat go, it means that their meeting was successful.

It will be possible to understand whether a pregnancy has occurred only after 3 weeks, or even a month. The appearance of signs of a new estrus indicates that conception has not occurred. In this case, a second meeting with the cat is held, and if the first one took place on a reimbursable basis, then the next one should be held free of charge.

Popular nicknames

Choosing a name for a new family member is always pleasant and at the same time responsible. Many people believe that a name can determine fate, which means that it is not just beautiful to name a baby. The nickname should endow him with valuable qualities that you would like to convey to him.

Thailand has its own celebrities who are known all over the world, for example, golfer Tiger Woods. Some cat owners are inspired by geographical names taken from this country: Chang, Samun, Moon, Salween, etc. Among the owners of any purebred cats, names are popular that, translated from English, indicate certain qualities, for example, Lucky "Lucky", or Dodger - "cheat".

The beauty of the eye color of a Thai cat is emphasized by names such as Skye "sky" or Azur "azure".

There are many euphonious Thai words that can be used as names if the meaning matches. For example, Wanida - "girl", Bunsi - "highly esteemed beauty", Narong - "winner", Sombun - "perfection", Somchair - "courageous". The main thing is that it is convenient to pronounce it in everyday life, you can come up with an abbreviated form of the nickname.

Usually, owners of Asian cats tend to give them a name with oriental roots. At the same time, taking a kitten just for yourself, you can especially not rack your brains on his nickname. If this is a successor of a certain family and in the future he will participate in planned mating, then he will have to take the matter seriously. Moreover, the first letter of his name is usually given by the index of a particular litter, it will be announced to you by the owner of the cattery. In this case, the nickname must be combined with the name of this cattery, as it will become part of the name.

Similarities and differences with the Siamese cat

As we have already noted, both Siamese and Thais descended from the Old Siamese cat. They have a lively temperament, playful, love to "poke their nose" in all the affairs of the owners. They also have an external resemblance - a light coat with dark markings, blue eyes. However, if you look closely at the pictures of these two breeds, the differences will become obvious, and you will no longer confuse them with each other. It's all about the different body structure of these cats.

Siamese cats are characterized by thinness, elongation of the body, an elongated tail, their head resembles a wedge in shape, and the forehead and nose are almost a single feature, that is, as such, the bridge of the nose on their face does not appear. The Thais, on the other hand, have a quite distinguishable depression in the region of the nose bridge. Their eyes are also more elongated than those of the Thais. The ears of the Siamese are so large that they seem disproportionate to the head, while among the Thais they are of medium size, their tips are slightly rounded.

Owner reviews

Usually, the owners of domestic Thai cats leave rave reviews on the forums about their pets - many like that these cats are affectionate and get along well with the whole family, including dogs. True, in some cases cats become so strongly attached to one owner that in his absence they fall into a real depression - they eat poorly, meow loudly and show indifference to other people.

One woman told an amazing case when a cat was very offended by her for a long absence, did not eat for several days, and when the hostess returned, she defiantly did not allow herself to be stroked. True, after a while the purr softened and came to make up. Another owner told his story of a short separation from the Thai - when he met, the cat literally scolded him in his feline tongue for a long absence, so violently he expressed his emotions.

Another interesting quality of these mustache is also associated with their attachment to humans. They are so fond of accompanying their households everywhere that they are happy to ride with them in cars. Some of the pets are not even against heated seats, because these creatures are very thermophilic. If it's cold outside, you can try dressing the cat in clothes from a pet store or make something similar with your own hands.

Since these oriental beauties love to give their warmth to all household members, they expect a response in return. If a person even unwittingly offends a secret person, she can run up to a person and bite him on the leg. For all the kindness, if this cat thinks that she has been betrayed, she may be offended by the owner.

Fortunately, such fights usually end in reconciliation. In a word, you don't have to be bored with these pets - they make you feel as much as possible what cat love and other emotions that accompany it are.

The Thai cat is a wonderful companion for its owner. She is always ready to be there, even when traveling. Looking at the activities of the household, the cat always seeks to do its bit, or at least sit next to and exchange glances with the person.Particularly pleasing is the fact that these animals can live long enough. Their lively character allows them to become the "soul of the company" in any family and give many pleasant moments to the household.

The canines are white and clean, but for some reason they don't want dry food.

A Thai cat is sad in the water, like, "I pretend I like to swim, but I really don't."

I have a Thai cruel! Purrs when she is scolded and bites on the sly, but I still love her.

My cat is not angry.

I bought toothpaste for my cat))

I don’t know how my Thai will handle the plane trip. I prepared everything: vaccinations, a veterinary passport, an address book, a leash, Hilss bags with fish for kittens and a bowl, a carrier, a toy is already there - an owl.

Transferred well.

But if you wet dry food with fish, then he will come running and eat.
