All about Ukrainian Levkoy cats
Ukrainian Levkoy cats are as gentle and cute as the flower, after which they were named. In addition, they have a rather outstanding appearance, which makes them especially popular with many pets.
Origin story
The Ukrainian Levkoy breed was born relatively recently, about 10 years ago. However, despite this, it quickly became popular. All work on crossing animals was carried out by felinologist Elena Biryukova. She began to work on the creation of this breed at the beginning of the XXI century, but achieved the final results only after 4 years.
For the experiment, cats of completely different breeds were taken. These are the Don Sphynx and Scottish Fold. As a result, the animals received a bald body from the sphinxes and lop-eared from the Scottish cat breed. In addition, extraordinary handsome men are distinguished by good health and excellent character.
The first appearance of the cat in the world aroused great interest not only among lovers of original breeds, but also among specialists. Today this breed is already quite popular, but so far only in the CIS countries. But international organizations have not yet decided how they should treat unusual Ukrainian cats.
But they are still allowed to participate in various exhibitions and competitions. So, more than 10 cats already have the title of champions.

- The head of the bald levkoy has a flat, slightly elongated shape. From above, it looks more like a pentagon. But their bulging forehead makes these animals unusually attractive.
- Almost a third of the head is occupied by a round face, while the cheekbones are quite pronounced. And also Levkoi have interesting superciliary arches.
- The nose is not too wide.
- The eyes of cats are slightly slanted with a green or blue tint.
- Their necks are of medium length, moreover, they are rather muscular.
- It is worth noting the large, as if made of mastic, ears of the Levkoy. They are slightly bent downward.
- The body looks very beautiful. It is muscular with a not very wide chest.
- The paws of an animal of this breed are long and strong.
- They have almost no wool, but the whole body is covered with a delicate fluff. In the area of the neck, eyes, ears, as well as in the armpits, there are small folds that make this breed of cats individual.
- The weight of the male reaches 6 kilograms, but the female is slightly smaller - up to 5 kilograms.
- Their sexual maturity occurs approximately 1 year after birth.
Character traits
This breed of cats is distinguished by great dedication and love for their owners. They are very delicate and sociable, intelligent and intelligent, easy to learn and train.
These animals are highly intelligent. They almost never get involved in fights, but if something like that happens, the cats get out of this situation with dignity. In addition, the Levkoi can carry out the most elementary commands. They quickly get used to the toilet.
They easily make contact not only with their owners, but also with those animals that are in the same room with them. These handsome men are very fond of their owners and almost everywhere follow them "on their heels", while they purr, as if inviting to a conversation with them.
If they are not paid attention to, they will meow until they are spoken to.
In addition, Ukrainian Levkoy have such traits in their character as the ability to control their emotions, to be capricious, and also to remember everything that concerns them. For example, if the owner is sitting or watching TV, the animal can wait for an hour from him for attention, while simply looking into his eyes or licking his hand.
If we talk about the preferences of these animals, then they like to be friends with adult owners more than with their children. This does not mean that they are aggressive towards children. They just prefer the company of quieter people.
Ukrainian Levkoy cats are very sociable and inquisitive, so the appearance of strangers in the house will not frighten them, but, on the contrary, they will study them, that is, get to know them.
But too big and noisy parties are not suitable for Levkoy, they do not like this.
Conditions of detention
Ukrainian sphinxes are completely unpretentious in content. The only thing they need is a lot of warmth, because they have practically no wool. Therefore, the temperature in the house or apartment, especially in winter, should always be high. But you can buy warm suits for your pets. And also it is necessary to protect them from drafts, and lay warm mats for them.
In summer, attention should be paid to ensure that the sun does not scorch their delicate skin, therefore it is necessary to protect animals from direct sunlight.
The breed of Ukrainian Levkoy is distinguished by its fear of heights. Therefore, you should not be afraid that they will climb onto the closet or climb onto new curtains.
Since cats do not have hair, bathing them too often is not recommended.... It is best to carry out such procedures as the animals become contaminated. This should be done with the help of special shampoos, as their skin secretes too much fat. For the same reason, it is necessary to wipe them quite often, otherwise excess fat will remain on furniture or wallpaper.
Like all cats, Levkoy also need to periodically trim their nails. For this, special tongs or claws are used. This procedure should be carried out with extreme caution, as you can inadvertently damage the vessels that are placed very close.If you cannot trim the claws yourself, then it is best to contact a veterinary clinic, where specialists will do it easily and quickly.
In addition, for your pets, it is imperative to equip a place for their rest. It should contain a scratching post, a tray with suitable filler. You need to accustom the animal to it from the first days of its appearance in the house, otherwise it will be much more difficult to do this later. It is necessary to regularly change the filler so that there is no unpleasant smell in the house. You can also purchase a special filler deodorant that will absorb all unpleasant odors. You can buy it at any veterinary pharmacy.
Since animals cannot clean their ears on their own, the owners need to do this. You can use special ear sticks. In addition, you need to brush your pets' teeth several times a week. Both toothbrush and toothpaste are available at pet stores. With good care, animals can live up to 12 years, maybe more.
Experts cannot say more precisely, since the breed has only recently been bred.
Feeding
Feeding the animals of this breed is quite simple. These cats have an excellent appetite. You can use both industrial feed and natural. The former can be both dry and wet, the main thing is that they combine all the vitamins and minerals necessary for the development of cats.
If natural feed is used, it must necessarily consist of the following products:
- sea fish;
- boiled chicken or beef;
- fresh cereals from various grains;
- boiled and raw vegetables, you can use mashed potatoes;
- vitamin supplements that you should buy at pet stores.
Diseases
Although this breed has appeared quite recently, it is not protected from diseases. Like any another animal, cats may encounter some of them.
- Cardiovascular disease can occur due to the stress suffered.
- If the animal falls into the rain, or walks in drafts, even inflammation may occur. In this case, you must definitely contact your veterinarian, since it will be difficult to cope with such a disease yourself.
- A huge appetite can lead to overeating. As a result, stomach problems can occur. In addition, Levkoi are prone to obesity. Therefore, their nutrition must be monitored well, having established a special feeding regime for them.
- Like other cats, Leukois may develop conjunctivitis or keratitis. To combat the disease, you can use ordinary tea lotions, or use special preparations for washing the eyes.
- Ear disease may occur. In this case, the animal will meow plaintively, and touch itself with a paw on the ears. You should immediately contact your veterinarian.
- Dermatitis or seborrhea often appears on the skin. In this case, again, the veterinarian should prescribe a special ointment for skin care. It is not necessary to treat the disease on your own, since you can only harm the animal.
Be sure to vaccinate your pets annually. They start to get vaccinated from two months. Protection is carried out against diseases such as calcivirosis or rhinotracheitis. If the baby is taken from the nursery, then he already has all the necessary vaccinations.
When a baby is 3 months old, he is vaccinated against rabies and chlamydia. In addition, it is necessary to regularly carry out preventive work against fleas and worms. Both tablets and liquid solutions can be used. From fleas, you can put on your pet a special collar that will protect him for 6 months from these parasites. You need to attach a keychain to the collar, where the owner's phone number will be written. This will be needed if the levkoy is lost.
Summing up, we can say that Ukrainian levkoi are perfect for any home. After all, they are not too picky about leaving, and will also be a great friend when they appear in the family.
The only thing they need is a little attention and love.
