How to make burdock oil at home?
Burdock oil is obtained from the root of burdock or, as it is also called, burdock. The product is extremely popular and can be found in any drug store or cosmetic supermarket.
But homemade oil is much more valuable. You will be 100% sure of its naturalness, plus all this product contains more useful components.
Required Ingredients
To make burdock oil at home, you need burdock root and an oil base.
As for the root, it can be dry or fresh. The underground part of the plant, collected in the periods from April to May and from August to November, is suitable for the production of an oily liquid. That is, in those months when the plant does not bloom, and all the nutrients are concentrated at the root.
Use large, fleshy roots, 3 to 5 cm thick. It is important to collect them from a young plant, as it is more juicy and rich in valuable elements, unlike two-year-olds.
To distinguish a young plant from an old one, focus on the thorns. The young do not have them at all.
If you plan to prepare a product from fresh root, then know that it should be used immediately after harvest. It is not recommended to store it for a long time.
After you have collected the raw materials, prepare them for cooking:
- take the root and select the fleshy part from it;
- remove leaves and shoots;
- rinse the root thoroughly with water using a brush to remove soil and other contaminants;
- let it dry;
- cut off the decayed, tainted parts.
The dry root is stored for a long time, but it is harvested in advance.To properly dry the burdock root, take the cleaned, prepared raw material, cut it lengthwise into several parts, spread it on a cloth that allows air to pass through well. You can hang the roots.
Dry raw materials in a dry and warm place, near a battery or oven. Or place it directly in an oven preheated to 45 °. It is also allowed to use electric dryers. If the root is dried properly, it will break easily. This product has a light pleasant aroma, and the taste is slightly sweet. Store it for 2 to 3 years in a dry, tightly closed container.
But if you still prefer to use the fresh root at any time, freeze it. To do this, put the crushed raw materials in hermetically sealed bags and place them in the freezer. The roots must first go through all the cleaning steps.
You need to defrost such a product using the natural method, without pouring water. This will prevent the destruction of important elements.
Olive, sunflower, sesame, almond and other cosmetic oils are used as an oil base.
As for the manufactured product, it uses mineral oil. It is an oil refining product, but it is harmless to the body. Among its beneficial qualities, hydration of the dermis is distinguished. It does not carry other valuable properties in itself, unlike natural oils.

Almost all procedures with burdock oil require the use of a warm product. To heat it up properly, you can put the required amount in a bowl and put it on fire, literally for a couple of seconds. Its temperature should not be higher than 40 ° C.
Another heating method is a water bath. Take 2 containers: one larger, the other smaller. Pour water into a large one and bring to a boil, then reduce heat. But the liquid should continue to bubble slightly.
Place the required amount of butter in a smaller container and place it in a large bowl. The oil will heat up gradually and evenly.
Do not heat the oily liquid in the microwave, as it is likely to overheat.
