Choosing lamps for the dressing room mirror
The right light is of great importance for makeup, so when choosing a make-up mirror or making it with your own hands, you need to pay enough attention to the selection of lamps. First of all, you need to find out which lamps are needed for the make-up mirror and in what quantity. It is equally important to find out which bulbs are better in terms of the shade of the glow, the type of light source and brightness.
Types of lamps
There are several types of dressing mirror bulbs. The most popular type that is most commonly used today is LED lamp... They have a number of important advantages - they do not heat up, serve for a long time period, and are affordable. In addition, they are sold everywhere, so replacing a worn out light bulb is not a problem.
Incandescent lamps, which were popular in the past, are now practically not used for the manufacture of make-up mirrors. Despite the fact that their spectrum is suitable for high-quality makeup, they generate a lot of heat, so if you sit in front of a mirror with incandescent lamps for a long time, your face will sweat and your makeup will float.
Fluorescent lamps are also rarely used, since working with them strains the organs of vision and can cause headaches.
Required power
The power of the lamps is one of the key parameters when choosing them. 3.5W and 6W bulbs are the most common.
Six-watt lamps are in demand for large dressing rooms and full-height mirrors, which are looked at from a distance of 1-1.5 meters.
They are also well suited for a makeup artist who sits with their back to the mirror and needs sufficient lighting on the client's face. 3.5 W lamps are more often chosen for work at home and for small mirrors.
How much do you need?
For the most complete illumination of the face, it is recommended to place the lamps on all four sides of the mirror. This will give you enough light to apply your makeup evenly, without any distortion or shadows.
You can also limit yourself to the location of the bulbs on three sides - on the sides and at the top. This is convenient if the mirror is attached to a table or stands on a table. In such cases, the bottom row of lamps will create inconvenience and interfere with the placement of cosmetics.
The number of lamps directly depends on the size of the mirror. They usually think about the required amount when they make a structure on their own. The step of installing the bulbs is from 20 to 35 centimeters, therefore, having measured your blank for the future mirror, you can easily calculate the required number of lamps.
For example, you are making a small mirror for a house measuring 40 by 40 cm. It is recommended to install on the side walls in such a situation 3 bulbs with a gap of 20 cm. You will also need at least 3 lamps for the upper bar, respectively, the total number will be 9 pieces. The same number of bulbs will fit and for a mirror measuring 40 x 60 cm, only on the sides they will need to be mounted at intervals in 30 cm.
If you are interested in a mirror, in front of which professional makeup will be performed, then its dimensions will be not less than 60 x 100 cm. Arranging on the sides of such a structure along 4 lamps every 25 cm, a at the top - 3-4 bulbs, you will get the total amount 11-12 pieces, and the result will be uniform shadow-free illumination.
As for full-length mirrors for a fitting room or wardrobe, bottom light is usually added to them, so at least 20 bulbs are taken to make them.
How to choose?
When buying LED bulbs, you first need to decide on the type of base. It comes in sizes E14 (small) and E27 (larger). In order not to be mistaken, check the plinth size on your mirror before buying. Next, you need to choose flask viewconsidering that transparent light is more directional and hard, but matte is more pleasing to the eye, their light is softer.
After that, you need to pay attention color temperature of the purchased models. This characteristic is indicated on the packaging. Warm-colored (2700 K) lamps give light similar to that of an incandescent lamp, therefore they create a special coziness in the room, but for make-up do not fit, as they distort the complexion.
Light bulbs with a neutral color (on average 4100 K) are the most common, since they are as comfortable to work with as possible, and the complexion is natural.
Lamps at 6500 K, which have a cold light, are also practically not used in the manufacture of dressing mirrors, since it is not very pleasant to work under them.
There are also LED bulbs that can be wattage controlled. These are special models called dimmable, since they have a dimmer. It is not worth changing the power of incandescent lamps, as this will lead to their strong heating or rapid burnout.
