How to make a DIY essential oil air freshener?
Aromas play an important role in the general home atmosphere. The apartment, filled with unobtrusive pleasant smells, becomes more comfortable. It is pleasant to return to it after a hard day, and on the weekend you can completely relax and get a therapeutic psychological release. There are many flavoring agents on the market, but not all of them are completely harmless and ideal in their composition. The article will talk about how to make an air freshener from essential oils with your own hands.
What are the benefits?
In addition to being able to be the creator of your favorite scent by being creative and unique, a home-made fragrance has other important advantages as well.
- Naturalness and harmlessness. You can choose the components yourself, taking into account the health characteristics of your family members. And, of course, you don't have to add synthetics and chemicals. And if someone close to you is allergic to certain natural essential substances, you simply will not add these components to your home fragrance.
- Many who are trying to make familiar household appliances with their own hands have noticed that in the end it turns out to be a good idea to save money, because manufacturers include their risks, transportation costs, and so on in the price. And if you have mastered the algorithm for making a fragrance, you just need to purchase the necessary components. In this case, you do not overpay for packaging and many unnecessary elements in the composition of aerosols and other artificial air fresheners.
- The fragrance made from high-quality natural essential oils will not emit an unnecessarily pungent odor. In store aerosols, substances are often added that artificially increase the activity of odor particles. As a result, the smell becomes strong and unnatural. But the light pleasant scent of a homemade refreshing device will not be so annoying at all, but, on the contrary, will create a cozy atmosphere.

How and from what to make?
Having decided on the choice of aroma, you can start making a homemade device for aromatizing an apartment. However, you can use your fragrance not only for indoor use. There is no obstacle to freshening the air in the car with it, or using it to give a pleasant fragrance to bed linen and other favorite things.
Fragrance diffuser
To make this simple, air-freshening device, you need to prepare a spray bottle and a small plastic bottle with a screw neck.Even better, if you can find glass vials or bottles with a neck suitable for screwing on the spray bottle.
So, in the selected container you need to pour 150-200 ml of cooled boiled water. You can also use purified distilled. Then add about 10 drops of the selected essential oil there. In the future, you will be able to adjust the amount of etheric components depending on your personal feelings.
If you have chosen a composition from aromas, drip 2-3 drops of each oil. The main thing is not to overdo it!
The fragrance diffuser is ready. It is advisable to shake it before use.
Gelatin flavor
To create and maintain a pleasant smell in the room, you can use a kind of "jelly", which will constantly emit a fragrance for several days.
Gelatin should be taken in the amount of 2 tbsp. spoons, pour it with a glass of warm water, stir and heat over low heat until completely dissolved. For a more beautiful visual effect, you can add food coloring to the water, then the solidified gel-like mass will have a certain color.
Pour the selected oil into a container with warmed gelatin. Enough 10-15 drops. To prevent the composition from drying out too quickly, add 1 teaspoon of glycerin.
After letting it cool slightly, pour the resulting mass into a transparent glass jar with a wide neck. For a better decorative effect, you can add beautiful pebbles, shells, flower petals and other decorations there.
A beautiful aroma from natural ingredients is ready.
Soda air freshener
A flavoring agent based on simple baking soda, which is found in the kitchen, perhaps, in every housewife, is very easy to make. Pour the powder into a small container. It can be a jar or a plastic container, as long as the top of the dish is wide.
One or more essential oils are added to the soda. You can mix the whole mass a little with a stick so that the esters are better distributed.
Then the container with soda must be closed with thick paper or foil, securing them with a tight elastic band. In the "lid" it is necessary to make several holes with a toothpick, an awl or a thick needle.
Such a composition not only spreads the fragrance itself for a long time, but is also able to absorb unpleasant odors from the outside. Therefore, this version of the freshener is well suited for use in the bathroom or in the kitchen.
Home scent based on water and alcohol
This recipe is a slightly enhanced version of the water-based fragrance sprayer described just above. Alcohol contains many volatile particles that will help the ether to spread better indoors.
As in the previous case, you will need a small container and a spray bottle. In 1 glass of water you need to add 2 tbsp. tablespoons of vodka or 1 tbsp. a spoonful of pure 90% alcohol. 10-15 drops of essential oil should also be poured there. After shaking, the pleasant scent can be sprayed around the room.
Fragrant sticks
A very long-lasting freshener, for the manufacture of which you need wooden skewers or other thin sticks.
You will also need a small bottle, always with a narrow neck. There you need to pour about 100 grams of the so-called base oil, that is, odorless. In everyday life, the first thing that comes to mind from the most affordable is refined sunflower.
2 tbsp is also added to the container with oil. tablespoons of vodka and 5-10 drops of the selected aromatic ether. Close the neck and shake the bottle several times to mix the ingredients.
The flavor is ready. Place it in the room and place some wooden sticks in the bottle. They should rise above the neck. After 3 hours, the sticks need to be turned over, and they will begin to emit a pleasant smell. After the fragrance begins to fade, turn them over again. The intensity of the scent depends on the number of sticks: the more there are, the stronger and brighter the aroma.
Wax based
A good option for a bathroom or bedroom. You will need 100-120 grams of purified natural wax, 1 teaspoon of unscented base oil, 5 drops of essential oil with the selected aroma, a piece of thick woolen thread.
Place the wax in a small enamel container and melt it over low heat, preferably in a water bath. When it becomes quite liquid, you need to pour the base oil into it and, stirring constantly, add the essential oil.
Turn off heating. Gently pour the wax into a small container and dip the thread into the center. It is best to tie a small weight to its end so that the thread evenly sinks to the very bottom. You guessed it, this will be the wick for the resulting homemade scented candle.
