Eye shapes: types and makeup techniques
Since ancient times, women have tried to emphasize their merits or hide flaws in various ways, using corsets, blush, whitewash, even caustic substances. Fortunately, in the modern world there is no need to poison oneself and be sophisticated in search of various dyes, since the make-up field is rapidly developing, revealing new techniques and means for correcting and emphasizing the appearance.
Peculiarities
For many eras, women have focused on the eyes, trying to lengthen the lashes by drawing arrows with various substances. Eye make-up is the most popular way of modeling and correcting appearance. Nowadays, drawing a marafet has become an art and, like any activity, it has its own techniques and nuances. An improperly chosen make-up technique can turn advantages into disadvantages or further emphasize disadvantages. In order to apply the correct eye makeup, it is necessary to take into account the individual nuances of the face.
Basically, makeup is divided into three types, such as:
- morning - includes a light palette, discreet elements and is as close to natural as possible;
- evening - used for outputs, light, presented in brighter catchy tones;
- art makeup - this style is used at shows and master classes of makeup artists, where unusual solutions are used.
Before studying the features of the structure of the face, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the basic make-up techniques.
Nude
The name of this technique comes from the English nude, which means "naked". This technique involves the subtle use of makeup.
In order to get a beautiful makeup of this type, you must perform the following steps:
- cleanse the skin with an alcohol-free toner to avoid irritation;
- moisturize the face with cream and apply balm on the lips, wait until everything is absorbed into the skin;
- apply a foundation that has a light covering property. You need to use a sponge, previously moistened and wrung out in water;
- a thin layer of corrector is applied under the eyes, which is shaded with the pad of the index finger;
- a small amount of blush should be applied to the cheeks, shaded thoroughly;
- on the eyelids it is worth applying a beige or light brown shade;
- mascara with this style should be used brown, not black;
- apply lip gloss to the lips;
- slightly emphasize the eyebrows with a pencil.
Smoky eyes
This is a fairly common technique for evening make-ups. With this technique, the main emphasis is on the eyes, where arrows and dark shadows are used, black prevails. Sometimes only one shadow color is used, but to obtain the effect of relief and volume, it is worth making a smooth light transition from the inner part of the eyelids to the outer. A smoky effect is obtained by applying shaded shadows both on the eyelids and under the eyes.
Make-up with arrows
Arrows play a major role in this technique. They can be either straight graphic lines or soft lines with feathering.
Many girls and women are faced with the problem of jagged lines or asymmetrical arrows. It takes practice or trickery to apply them evenly, namely:
- using paper and tape to get straight lines;
- first you need to draw the outline of the arrow, then fill it with color;
- it is more convenient to make the contour with an eyeliner, and close the inner part with an eyeliner, which is more resistant.
There are stencils with different shapes of arrows, which you can make with your own hands from improvised means.
Cat eye
This technique includes two others: smoky eyes and graphic arrows. Arrows visually enlarge and raise the edges of the eyes, due to which a "cat" look is obtained.
There are many options for this type of makeup.
- Eccentric - These are broad arrows or shadows that cover almost the entire eyelid with clear, undisturbed lines. This option is more suitable for photo shoots or for brave girls. Most often, such lines are made with cream shadows.
- Puppet. It implies arrows that start at the outer edge of the eyes and reach almost to the eyebrows. The tip of these straight and clear arrows should be pointed and raised. Mascara should be applied more to the edge of the eyes.
- Rock'n'roll. These are, of course, double arrows, wide bright arrows from the lower side of the eye and from the upper one, reaching the middle of the eyelid. This option is perfect for a catchy party with a given theme. This type is not recommended for those with small eyes.
Cut crease
This technique of applying makeup, in which the accent is with shadows, should be done on the crease. This is a good option for those with heavy eyelids, as it visually removes wrinkles.
The principle of this technique is shaded shadows on the upper part of the eyelid and clear lines on the lower part. To get this effect, you need to perform the following simple steps:
- preparation of the upper eyelid with beige shades of shadows with strong shading;
- with a darker shade, you need to emphasize the fold line and the area slightly higher, slightly shade;
- highlight the fold with the darkest shade;
- with a brush, give the applied shadows a lifting effect on the outer corners of the eyes;
- it is worth applying a tonal foundation on the moving part of the eyelid;
- Apply the lightest shade to the part of the eyelid under the eyebrow and the inner corner of the eye;
- Apply a light beige shade to the movable eyelid.
You can also draw arrows with a small tail and paint with ink.
Banana
This technique makes the eyes oblong, which may resemble a banana in shape, hence the names. To obtain this effect, three types of shadows are used, such as:
- light;
- dark - focuses on the outer corners of the eyes and separates the movable part of the eyelid from the fixed;
- intermediate - used to separate the first and the second.
A loop
The peculiarity of this technique lies in the outline of the eye contour, which does not go beyond the outer corner, but forms a loop (upward) with feathering, which makes the look more expressive. This technique works well with any eye shape and is versatile.
Embossed technique
It is much more popular than banana and loop because it looks more natural. It involves the use of several shades of shadows - from light to dark. Underlining the outer corner of the eye and the line of the eyelid fold with dark tones, a transition with a slightly lighter shade of shadows and a lighter shade at the inner end of the eye to the middle are characteristic of this style.
The main focus should be on feathering to avoid straight and crisp lines of shadow separation.
What types are there?
To choose the correct technique for applying makeup, you first need to understand what kind of eyes exist. There are three parameters to consider, such as:
- the form;
- depth;
- the distance between them.
The following types of eyes are shared:
- almond-shaped - this is an oval shape, reminiscent of the shape of an almond, is considered the most common;
- small;
- round - the main task of women with round eyes is the desire to visually lengthen them;
- narrow or Asian - the main task is to visually expand the eye;
- heavy eyelid;
- wide-set - makeup techniques help to visually bring them closer;
- close-set - makeup should extend the distance with raised or lowered corners;
- convex;
- sunken.
How to determine?
In order to find out what type of eyes a person has, you need to understand the principles and determine the cut, shape and position. All you need is a mirror. First, you need to determine the shape.
- First of all, it is worth determining the presence of heavy eyelids, which means the presence of folds on the eyelids. It is worth relaxing your face, if the fold is visible, then you are the owner of this type.
- You need to portray surprise on your face. If the crease of the eyelid is hidden under the eyebrow or under the eyelid, then the shape is called "with a hood".
- In order to determine the type: raised, lowered or normal, visually you need to draw a straight horizontal line in the center of the eye socket. If it's hard to imagine, then you can attach a thin pencil or ruler. If the outer tip is raised, it is a raised shape. If the inner corner is omitted, it is the omitted shape.
It is worth looking at the pupil to see if the protein is visible from above and below. If yes, then the shape is round, if not, then narrow.
Now you can move on to determining the position.
- It is worth paying attention to the distance between the eyes. They can be wide or close to each other. If the distance between them is more than the length of one eye, then they are located wide and vice versa.
- The next step is to determine the depth. Bulging eyes protrude with the eyeballs. With sunken eyes, there is a feeling that they are pressed into the eyeballs.
- And the last step is to look at the whole face and determine the proportions of the eyes, mouth and nose. If the eyes are less than the distance from the mouth to the tip of the nose, it is a small type and vice versa.
How to choose a make-up?
Having dealt with the type of eyes, you can proceed to the selection of suitable makeup techniques. You need to learn how to build the shape of the arrows and understand the sequence of applying shadows. It is worth considering the makeup techniques step by step depending on the features of the face.
- Almond-shaped. The tasks for the owners of this type are to emphasize the curves and the open effect. For this, a relief make-up technique is well suited, which is presented with a transition from light to dark. To open your eyes, you can apply the lightest shade of eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eye and the area under the brow.
To lengthen and emphasize the shape, making it perfect, it is worth drawing classic arrows, they need to be applied over the entire length of the upper eyelid with an end extending beyond the edge of the eye. But the end can be made sharp and upturned, which will remind the style of Audrey Hepburn.
- Loose eyelid. To remove the feeling of a heavy eyelid, it is enough to use the eyeshadows of beige or neutral eyeshadow after the base coat. A darker shade of shadow should be applied to the area just above the crease and darken the corners of the eyes with a dark shade of shadow. The arrows for this type of eyes are applied of medium thickness and go beyond the edge of the eye. They have a peculiarity: a certain burr should lie on the crease of the eyelid at the tip of the eye, so the arrow will visually raise and remove the overhanging effect.
- Small. For this type, the use of dark shadows, pencils, eyeliners is contraindicated. The colors should be gray, beige, brown, as any dark color will make the eye look even smaller. The arrows can be bifurcated, and the lines should be thin. It is better to start arrows from the middle of the eye.
- Round. For round eyes, you need narrow lines that go beyond the boundaries of the outer corner. It is worth starting from the central part of the eye, the inner part of the lower eyelid can also be circled with a dark eyeliner.
- Narrow. For visual expansion, it is worth resorting to white eyeliner on the lower eyelid from the inside. It is also not recommended to draw the arrows outside the outer corner, the arrows are best done of medium thickness and only in the middle of the eyes.
- Set wide apart. This type of eye is easy to handle: just extend the line of arrows to the inner corners and connect them to the lower eyelid.
- Closely planted. For this type, the scheme works the other way around - the arrows should be at the outer corners and not reach the inner ones.
- Raised corners. A thin line of arrows is created from the middle of the lower eyelid, and the upper eyelid is fully drawn, while the arrows do not go beyond the outer corner. This option allows you to visually balance the position of the eyes.
- Lowered corners. For this type, classic arrows with a sharp tail extending beyond the outer corner are perfect.
- Convex. The emphasis on the eyes should be light, barely noticeable. Light shades of shadows and arrows that go slightly beyond the outer corners will do.
- Sunken. With this type, the emphasis is on darkening the upper eyelid with a relief method or using the "loop" technique. And also you should not overdo it with an emphasis on the eyebrows, it is better not to paint them too much.
These tips do not exclude attempts to use other types of techniques, to change and combine the above schemes.
