All women and girls want to look beautiful. To do this, they do not spare funds for clothing, cosmetics, accessories, visits to hairdressers and beauty salons. But for all this to bring results, it is necessary that make-up, hairstyle, jewelry emphasize attractiveness. This will happen if they are selected correctly, that is, in accordance with the appearance and shape of the face.

Appearance types

Before applying makeup and doing your hair, you should decide on the type of your appearance. The perfect hairstyle and perfect makeup for you will depend on the shape of your face, nose, skin tone and hair. Each type has its own characteristics and suitable hair lines and methods of face decoration.

Modern life is mobile, people change their place of residence, and on the streets of Russian cities you can meet people with different looks. However, most often we will see the Slavic, Scandinavian or Mongoloid type.

When we say "Slavic face", we mean an oval or rounded face with a straight or slightly upturned nose, low cheekbones, rather large eyes, which are blue, blue, gray, green, light brown. This type is characterized by light skin and hair of all shades of light brown and ash.

The Scandinavian type looks somewhat different. Its main characteristics are the correct oval of the face, very light skin of a pink tint, light eyes (most often blue, can be gray or green). And also he will be distinguished by small cheekbones, a narrow nose, very light, almost white or reddish hair.

The Mongoloid face will look completely different. First of all, it will differ in the shape and shape of the eyes. They are small, often slanted, the upper eyelid thickens towards the bridge of the nose. The eye color is very dark.

Other distinctive features are well-defined high cheekbones, black hair, most often straight, yellow skin tone. It goes without saying that makeup for a female Mongoloid face will be significantly different from makeup for a European woman.

However, women's faces are so different that it is clearly not enough to divide them all into these three categories and select only makeup for them. When choosing makeup, you must also take into account the shape of the face.

Depending on the shape of the face, the shape of the eyebrows is corrected, blush is applied in different ways, dark and light tones of powder are used, and the eyes are decorated. Therefore, it is very important for women to know the shape of their face.

Publications in periodicals offer a test with which you can find out the shape of the face. The test questions also boil down to comparing the sizes of different parts of the face and determining the shape of the chin.

Several basic forms can be distinguished.

  • Oval. In an oval face, its length clearly prevails over its width, the forehead is somewhat wider than the jaws, and the cheekbones are wider than the forehead. The rounded chin gives the oval a complete look. The oval face can be compared to an inverted chicken egg.
  • Round. If you measure the height of the face and its width at the level of the cheekbones, it turns out that they are almost the same. The chin tapers downwards and has a rounded shape, while the low forehead is framed by a smooth hairline.
  • Square. It is also a face with the same height and width, but the chin will be angular. The rather high forehead is the same width as the cheekbones and jaw. Above the forehead is a straight hairline resembling a bracket in its outlines.
  • Triangular. The width of such a face is slightly inferior to the height. The forehead is the widest part of it. The cheekbones are sometimes the same in width, but the face becomes narrower downward, and a small pointed chin completes the triangular shape.
  • Diamond-shaped. The face is slightly larger in height than in width. The cheekbones are usually high. From this widest part, the face tapers both down and up. The chin has a pointed shape, and the forehead, thanks to the peculiar hairline, resembles a cone.
  • Trapezoidal. In this case, the width of the face is inferior to its height. The cheekbones are quite wide, but the jaw line is wider than the cheekbone line. The face tapers upwards and the forehead line is the smallest.
  • Rectangular. The face has an elongated shape, its height is clearly greater than its width. The high forehead is the same width as the cheekbones and jaw. Such persons have a rather massive wide chin, and the hairline is usually straightened.

Definition

It happens that the descriptions still fail to determine the shape of the face. In this case, you can carry out simple manipulations at home that will help you understand your type.

Sit in front of a large mirror with your hair pulled back from your face. Try to sit up straight without leaning forward. Make sure that the light falls correctly: from above, not heading into your face. With a felt-tip pen, marker, or a piece of chalk, trace the contours of your face in your reflection in the mirror. Ears do not need to be included in this circuit.

Now examine your drawing carefully. Determine the widest part, compare with the height. Consider the shape of your chin and hairline.

All these details will help you figure out what kind of face you have.

And also to understand the shape of the face will help a few simple measurements using an ordinary tailor's measuring tape. You need to sit by the mirror in a room with good lighting, keep your head straight.

  • Apply the tape to the widest part of your forehead.
  • Find the most prominent points of the cheekbones and measure the distance between them. Since the tape is stretched over the bridge of the nose, do not apply it tightly to the cheekbones so as not to distort the measurement result.
  • Measure your jaw. For this, the tape is applied to the lower jaw from the protruding corner to the middle of the chin. The result obtained must be doubled.
  • Find out the height of the face by measuring the segment from the middle of the hairline to the bottom of the chin.

Record all measurements. They will clearly show you the proportions of the face and help you choose the appropriate description.

How to use decorative cosmetics?

There are many techniques for applying makeup to keep the proportions of your face balanced. When choosing a color palette for decorative cosmetics, it is imperative to take into account the color of the eyes and hair, and the tone of the skin.

Incorrectly chosen blush, lipstick, foundation and color palette of eyeshadow can ruin even the ideal shape. Day and evening makeup should be different. In addition, makeup artists advise against making two accents at the same time: on the eyes and on the lips.

The easiest way is to choose makeup for an oval shape - the correct oval does not need correction. A highlighter or blush will help make it stand out. They are applied to the most convex part of the cheekbones and shaded towards the temples.

A little more effort will be required if there is a need to visually enlarge small eyes or narrow lips, reduce a large nose or hide a double chin.

Owners of oval faces can use pretty bright eye makeup. It is better to take shadows of two or three tones: a light shade for the inner corners, a darker one for the outer ones.

Please note that blondes should not use black pencil or eyeliner - choose a calmer color.

Modern stylish smokey ice makeup will look good on an oval face. It is characterized by a smooth transition of light shadows to dark shadows and creates a haze effect. Classic dark, gray and black tones are perfect for evening make-up. Daytime "haze" can be created with other colors, combining them with the color of the eyes. It is not necessary to connect the upper and lower arrows behind the outer corner of the eye.

If a woman nevertheless decides to focus on her lips and paint them with bright lipstick, then her eyes should not be left without makeup at all - the arrows for the eyes and shadows can not be used, but it is advisable to slightly tint the eyelashes.

The eyebrow line can be any: horizontal, with a break, arched. If you prefer horizontal, you need to make sure that the eyebrows are not very low, otherwise a frown cannot be avoided.

The round face needs some adjustment: it needs to be slightly "stretched".

First of all, it will help to make the rounded shape of the eyebrows. You don't need to make them very thin or wide. They should be thinner at the temples than at the bridge of the nose.

You will need two tones of foundation. A lighter tone is applied to the middle of the face. A dark tone is applied to its lateral sides and carefully shaded. There should be no boundaries between tonal bases.

If for some reason you use not a foundation, but powder, then the principle of its application is the same: the sides of the face are powdered with dark powder.

When accentuating the eyes, you can use any shade suitable for the girl's color type, but dark is preferable. The shadow should be applied to the outer corners of the eyes. It is not recommended to apply them under the very eyebrows.

Do not make the arrows elongated, their "tails" at the outer side of the eyes should point up.

Mascara is used in such a way that more paint over the lashes at the outer edges of the upper eyelids. The lower eyelashes can be left untreated.

In order not to add volume to the lips, enhancing the rounded shape, do not use contour pencils. You can style your lips with gloss or lipstick in natural shades. Flashy tones are inappropriate, but mother-of-pearl is welcome.

Completes the adjustment by applying blush. They are shaded from the most convex part of the cheekbones towards the middle of the cheek.

For girls with a square face, there are also makeup rules. Since such a face looks massive, its contours should be darkened.A dark tone is used for the cheekbones, chin, forehead at the hairline. The main part of the face is lightened with the help of cosmetics. If the nose is large, then a darker product is also applied to it.

The blush shouldn't be very dark. It is best if it is a light pearlescent shade that matches the general color type of a woman. The blush is shaded from the cheekbones down the cheek to the lip line.

The eyebrows should be curved and not made too long. Their rounded or straightened line is undesirable.

It is better to use monochromatic shadows, as their multi-colored palette will accentuate the high forehead. The arrows on the eyelids should go in an ascending line.

With a square shape, it will be very appropriate to emphasize the lips. If they are narrow, then using a contour pencil, you can increase their borders. However, one should not deviate more than 1 mm from the natural contour.

Lip gloss is great for daytime makeup, as it visually increases volume. For the evening, lipstick with a satin or pearlescent effect would be a good choice.

The contour pencil should be in the same color scheme as the lipstick and may be only slightly darker than it.

The triangular shape needs a visual reduction in the upper part of the face and an expansion of the lower one. Therefore, a dark tone should be applied to the upper half of the forehead and to the lateral parts of the face up to the cheekbone line. A light tone is applied to the middle of the face. To visually balance the upper and lower parts, the lightest tonal agent is applied to the contours of the lower jaw. To distract attention from a pointed chin, you can cover it with a dark product.

The eyebrows should not be long, they can be shortened at the temples. Eyebrows with a sharp angle are not recommended, they should have a rounded shape.

The blush is shaded from the cheekbones down to the cheeks. You should end up with a wedge without a clear outline.

Eye makeup should be done with dark shadows, accentuating the central part of the eyelid. When drawing arrows, lift them slightly upward, without going far beyond the contours of the eyes.

The owners of a triangular face should highlight their lips with bright lipstick. If they are small, then you should first give them an elongated shape with a contour pencil. It is better to choose a lipstick with a glossy shine or with reflective particles.

Since the diamond-shaped face tapers up and down, its lateral parts are subject to correction with a dark tonal means. Light makeup is applied to the upper half of the forehead, chin and central part of the face.

Blush is applied to the convex parts of the cheeks and shaded diagonally towards the temples. The blush should not be very bright and light, especially the more shiny, as highlighting the cheekbones will lead to the fact that you define the geometry of the face more clearly. Choose a color that is natural, slightly darker than your skin color.

For eyebrows, choose a shape with a slight bend. Keep them wide and avoid sharp curves and straight shapes.

For a diamond-shaped face, it is appropriate to use bright eye paints. Shadows are preferable to dark shades, the shades are more intense in the outer corners of the eyes than in the inner ones. The arrows may be thick or thin, but rise.

Women with a diamond-shaped face can afford to make up their eyelashes quite thick. A volumizing mascara with the effect of false eyelashes is suitable for them.

Another characteristic feature of this face shape is the ability to simultaneously emphasize the lips. If a woman prefers to focus only on the eyes, the lips should still be tinted with gloss or light lipstick.

When focusing on the lips, avoid overly dark tones.

With a trapezoidal shape, it is necessary to visually reduce the lower third of the face and soften the lines. To balance the proportions, a light tone is applied to the entire forehead, without darkening it from the sides. A darker one is used for the lateral contours of the face and chin.

Blush covers the area under the cheekbones and shade towards the temples.

The eyebrows should be fairly wide and long and curved. The wider the distance between them, the better. Well-dyed, bushy eyebrows with a clear shape will serve as a visual extension of the upper part of the face.

Makeup that accentuates the eyes will also help. Use at least two shades of shadow: light for the inner corners of the eyes, dark for the outer. When using eyeliner, do not draw arrows at the inner corners.

Do not focus on the lips. Gloss and lipsticks of light and pastel colors will do.

For a rectangular face, there is also its own makeup technique, the task of which is to make the face visually shorter and wider, to bring it as close as possible to an oval shape.

The upper half of the forehead and chin should be tinted with a dark product, and the central part of the face and cheeks, on the contrary, should be lightened.

The blush is applied to the area below the cheekbones, closer to the middle of the cheek, and shaded in such a way as to form a triangle. You don't need to choose a very bright color.

The eyebrows should have the appearance of a very smooth arch so as not to draw attention to the large forehead. But also the eyebrows should not come together at the bridge of the nose.

For eye makeup, you can use fairly bright and dark shadows. They can be monochromatic, but their strip on the eyelid should expand from the inner corner of the eye to the outer one. Make the arrows for the eyes long, lifting them towards the temples. Don't forget to keep your lashes long and fluffy.

Along with the accent on the eyes, accentuate the lips, as in the case of a square face. Use bright lipsticks, glossy and pearlescent. If you don't want a second accent on your face, use lip glosses - they will not give a bright tone, but they will make your lips look plump.

Avoid overly dark tones, especially if you have thin lips. A darker tone will make them even thinner.

A little about the hairstyle

All women know that a successful hairstyle can mean a lot to create an image and can transform the look. On the covers of magazines, you can see beautiful fashion styling. However, you should not blindly follow the fashion and reproduce what you saw - the hairstyle should suit your face type and equalize its proportions.

Only the owners of faces of the correct oval shape can experiment with their hair and use different styles. They can afford haircuts of different lengths and shapes, fluffy and sleek hairstyles. The only thing they don't need to do is to let go of the long thick bangs and strands falling on the face, so as not to hide the beautiful proportions.

Women with oval faces should consider the quality of their hair and whether their facial features are large or small when choosing a hairstyle.

If your hair is thin, it is better not to wear it long, but to cut it short. If your facial features are large, smooth hair or large waves will look better. Fine features go well with curls.

A properly chosen hairstyle will help to correct the shape of the face and give it an oval look.

For a round face, tall hairstyles with a lot of volume are ideal. It can be both haircuts and elongated hair, combed back and creating volume at the crown. Haircuts should fall over the jawline.

A high tail will also look good. To visually narrow your face, you can wear long bangs, laid on one side. A fluffy bob with elongated strands in the front is also suitable.

A straight parting and hair smoothly combed to the sides of the parting does not suit a round face.

For a square face, do not slick your hair back, pull it over your shoulders, or tie it into a bun to reveal your ears. And also a straight parting is not recommended - it should be oblique.

Lush curls along the face will help to visually bring it closer to the oval. It will be good if the curls cover your cheeks a little. An oblique or side swept bang will look advantageous.

An excellent solution would be a stylish haircut with short hair at the back of the head and longer hair in the front.

With a triangular face, it is advisable to let go of the bangs. The low forehead is well masked by asymmetrical bangs.

Short haircuts and high curls over the forehead are not suitable for this type of face. This hairstyle will put a strong emphasis on a sharp chin. Hair should be curled at the sides and combed over the cheeks.

Smooth styling and slicked-back hair should also be avoided. The principle is the splendor of the hair and the volume near the chin, and the curls of the ends of the hair are directed towards the face. Curls that do not reach the shoulders will be optimally long.

Girls with a diamond-shaped face will have to carefully choose a hairstyle. They need to give up short haircuts, it is much more appropriate for the hairstyle to cover the neck. The main volume of the hairstyle should be concentrated at the bottom, it is unacceptable near the cheekbones. Also, in order not to emphasize the width of the cheekbones, do not tuck your hair behind your ears. Hair can be gathered in a ponytail, but only with bangs.

If you still prefer a short haircut, then bangs are also necessary. In no case should bangs be smooth. It will help to visually shorten the face. Partings should be done on the side. Avoid creating straight parting and volume on the crown, so as not to visually lengthen the face.

On medium length hair, choose a torn cut. Any hairstyle with the creation of volume at the chin will do. Hair can also be worn long. Curls are welcomed along the entire length of the hair.

For a rarely seen trapezoidal face, voluminous hairstyles should be created, and the volume should be either above or below the chin. Curls of curls combed to the cheeks will well correct the shape. Side partings and lush thick bangs are suitable. Torn haircuts are a great option.

Wearing hair tied behind the ears is not recommended.

With a trapezoidal face, short haircuts, lush at the top, will look great.

Long curls will also be appropriate, as they will get rid of the accent on the wide lower part of the face. If the hair is long, it can be pinned up and styled luxuriantly. This hairstyle looks neat and elegant, suitable for both daytime and evening looks. Hoops and interesting hairpins will be a great addition.

With a rectangular face, the task of the hairstyle is to smooth out the massive chin and reduce the length of the face.

It is best if the hair is short or of medium length, but the length should not end at the level of the chin. However, too short haircuts, like slicked-back hair, will only accentuate the elongated shape of the face. For the same reason, the bun and tail do not look good.

The bob haircut, which is fashionable this season, is perfect. It can be classic: the strands are elongated near the face, and shortened at the back. You can also wear its varieties: asymmetric, graduated, torn, elongated, with bangs. Any of them will create the necessary natural volume at the temples.

Unsuitable options - large volumes on the crown, even parting, very short bangs, hairstyles in which the ears and cheekbones remain open. You also do not need to leave your forehead open and comb your hair smoothly.

Long hair can be worn with a rectangular face. Curls will not spoil the look.

Hairstyles will also hide the face geometry well without observing symmetry.

Useful Tips

Regardless of the shape of the face, there are makeup rules that every woman must follow.

  • When applying a dark foundation, blend it over the neck area, behind the ears, otherwise the complexion will contrast with the skin color of other parts of the body, which looks ridiculous.
  • Using tonal bases of different shades, blush, highlighters and bronzers, achieve smooth color transitions, carefully shade cosmetics.
  • Follow the correct sequence for applying cosmetics.
  • If you are using a greasy blush, apply it before dusting. Dry ones will spread better on top of the powder.
  • Low drooping eyebrows are unlikely to decorate a woman's face.White shadows applied under the very eyebrows will help to visually raise them.
  • Before applying makeup, it is advisable to prepare the skin: wipe it with a tonic or micellar water, apply a base layer of a daytime protective cream.
  • Choose cosmetics according to your skin type, and decorative cosmetics according to your color type.
  • Remember that you need to take care of your face not from time to time, but constantly. Makeup will look beautiful only on a well-groomed face.
  • When doing evening make-up and using brighter and darker tones of decorative cosmetics, do not get carried away with very dark lipsticks - they are far from suitable for everyone and can age the face.
  • A white pencil will help to make the eyes more. Draw a line on the inner edge of the lower eyelid.
  • Creamy eyeshadows often come with a bright mother-of-pearl and are ideal for evening make-up, but they also roll off on the eyelids much faster than dry cosmetics. Using a special base under the shade will give them durability.
  • Don't use dark brown eyeshadow if you have a tired face.
  • When making up your face, use a mirror with a magnifying effect to avoid any sloppiness in your makeup.
  • Avoid using daytime makeup in artificial light - it can be harsh in daylight.
  • Be sure to wash off makeup before bed, even if it is considered harmless and hypoallergenic; use special means for this.
