Overview of the bays of Crimea
The coastline of the Crimean Peninsula is heavily indented. There are over 75 bays and bays. They are all very different. Some of them have comfortable secluded beaches, somewhere beautiful views worthy of the brush of an artist, or historical sights. To choose a suitable place for recreation, tourists should learn more about the Crimean bays.
Where are they located?
If you start listing the names of all the bays, the page may not be enough. Therefore, let's talk about the largest and most famous. And in order to better understand where they are, we will divide them along the geographical sides of the peninsula.
On the South Bank
The southern side of Crimea is popular with tourists due to its Mediterranean-like climate. And having sheltered from the winds in any of the bays, lovers of wild rest can feel quite comfortable.
Bugaz
Bugaz Bay is located in the Sudak region, but far enough from it (10 km). Therefore, you will have to get there on your own by car or by water, since there are no public transport routes. The nature and water area here are considered one of the cleanest and best preserved in Crimea. The previous secrecy regime helped. The fact is that on Cape Meganom, which borders the bay on one side (on the other - Cape Tolstoy), there is a military base.
And in the bay itself, secret developments were carried out, which, apparently, did not have a negative impact on nature.
Bugaz can be considered the sunniest place in Crimea, there are up to 300 clear days a year. One beach is covered with dark gray sand, the other - with fragments of stones that have come off the surrounding rocks. Some tourists like to sunbathe on large boulders. Within walking distance from the beaches there is a tourist center and a boarding house, so you can settle down quite comfortably and inexpensively. And since it is not very easy to get from settlements to the bay, it is never crowded by the sea.
Kapselskaya
From Sudak, you can also get to Kapselskaya Bay, from where Meganom is also clearly visible, but it is located between Cape Frantsuzhenka and Alchak. The dissonant name "Kapsel" can be translated as "a lost place". The valley of the same name, scorched by the sun, was just that when A.S. Griboyedov saw it in 1825 and did not describe it in laudatory terms.
Now this place only pleases tourists, including beautiful views. There is an opportunity to relax with a tent or in comfort in a boarding house. Interesting is the floating hotel-steamer "Swallow", which took part in the filming of the film "Cruel Romance".
Blue
Golubaya Bay is located near the village of Novy Svet. It is located between the Karaul-Oba rock and Cape Kapchik, which bends around the bay with clear blue water in a semicircle.
You can find another name for this bay - Tsarskaya. It is connected with the fact that rulers liked to rest in this place, in particular, the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II came here in 1912 at the invitation of Prince L. S. Golitsyn. The Blue Bay is inaccessible from land, so a path was cut for the emperor in the mountains to the grotto, which housed the wine cellar, and to a small comfortable beach, later called Tsarskoe. During the earthquake of 1927, the path collapsed, but now the path is partially restored.
In addition to Golubaya, Novy Svet has two more “multi-colored” bays: Green and Blue. The names speak for themselves, the water there has just such shades.
Kutlakskaya
To the west is the Kutlak Bay. It got its name from the Kutlak River, the valley of which is located here. The coastline stretches for 3 km from the Karaul-Oba mountains to the Ai-Foka (Kabaniego) cape. A narrow pebble beach is about 2 km. The attraction of this place is the "Assandra Fortress".
Sometimes the bay is called Veselovskaya by the nearest settlement (Veseloe). But it should be noted that there is another bay nearby, which is called that.
Bay of Love
A real paradise with a romantic name is located near the village of Rybachy, this is the Bay of Love. A round bay with crystal clear water and a hard-to-reach beach attracts lovers first of all. But their privacy can be disturbed by nude sunbathers or divers who also love the place. And rarely anyone is stopped by the fact that only a "goat's" path leads here on land and that you will have to walk through numerous stones. However, you can get there by swimming.
Interestingly, the bay is of volcanic origin. Not far from the trail there is a funnel with a diameter of about 3 meters, which is the mouth of an ancient volcano. And if you dive in clear water, you can see bizarre figures made of stones, one of which looks like a monkey. Therefore, the bay is sometimes called Monkey... She - one of the smallest, its length is only about 100 meters.
Just do not confuse it with the Chalice (bath) of Love near Cape Tarkhankut on the western coast.
Laspinskaya
This bay is the transition of the southern coast to the western one. It is located between the capes Aya and Sarych, the length is 12 km. The coast is uneven, there are about 10 small bays. The Greek word laspi means mud. This refers to the healing clay left over from numerous thermal springs in the past. The average air temperature in winter is + 5 ° C.
The bay is also known for the Batiliman tract, located on the coast and belonging to the Cape Aya reserve. A rare plant, found only in the Crimea, grows here - Stankevich's pine. Both the air and the water are very clean.
In the West
Shell and pebble beaches are characteristic of the west coast. Recreation areas are famous for healing mud and salt lakes.
Karadzhinskaya
The bay belongs to the water area of the Karkinitsky Bay, which is known for the fact that its bottom is gently sloping and because of this, the water in it quickly warms up after winter. There are several opinions about the origin of the name Karadzhinskaya. Perhaps the name of Karadz was the name of the owner of this place. Maybe once there were a lot of roe deer here, since one of the translation options means this animal. Some researchers believe that "kara ji" can be translated from Turkic as "wild grass".
The waters of the bay wash the village of Olenevka. The coast is indented with small bays, it has a length of more than 7 km. The beach is sandy and shell-like, but the bay is interesting not only for sunbathers, but also for avid fishermen.
On its territory there are two closed salt reservoirs: Liman and Karadzhinsky. But there are also sources of fresh water, and even medieval wells.
Kipchak
This bay ends with the Tarkhankutsky nature reserve and is the national natural park "Wonderful harbor". You can get to it from the village of Chernomorskoye, if you go in the direction of Olenevka. The place is suitable for those who want to isolate themselves from the outside world for a while, since cellular communication practically does not work in the bay itself. The water warms up quickly, so the swimming season starts early.
Several other small bays can be noted near the Black Sea: Uzkaya, Karamysh, Ozhinnaya, Ocheretay.
In the east of the peninsula
A feature of the eastern side is that most of the bays under consideration belong to the water area of the Azov Sea.
Dvuyakornaya
It is said that during the storms here, the ships lowered two anchors to hold on. Also in 1784 there was a Dvuyakornaya battery. The bay stretches for 7.5 km between the capes of Ilya and Kiik-Atlama (not far from the village of Ordzhonikidze), and is also bounded by the Tepe-Oba and Biyuk-Yanishar ridges. Average depth - 3 m.
Provato
The village of Ordzhonikidze is located directly on the banks of the Provato. Interesting that the name is translated from two languages: from Italian as “proven”, from Greek as “sheep's place”.
The bay is nearly one and a half kilometers long.
Tatarskaya
This bay stretches near Cape Kazantip for as much as 25 km. It juts out into the land not far, but very wide. The nearest settlement is the village of Mysovoe. On the other side of the cape is the Russkaya Bay. The origin of the names is explained by the fact that in the old days the village was divided into two national settlements.
The beach of the Tatar Bay is covered with shell sand. The entrance to the sea is convenient, but shallow. In some places, to swim properly, you will need to walk more than 100 m.
Due to this depth, water can warm up to 40 ° C on hot days.
Cosmonauts
The nearest settlement to the Cosmonauts Bay is the town of Shchelkino. They say that the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin rested here, hence the name.
Dead and Silent
These two bays near Koktebel are separated by Cape Chameleon. The names speak for themselves, it's very quiet there. And in the Dead is also deserted, in addition, it is shallow and rotting algae create a specific unpleasant smell.
General's
It will most likely be necessary to get to this bay by land from Kerch through the villages of Novootradnoye and Zolotoye, or through the village of Kurortnoye, past Lake Chokrak. The length of the General's beaches is about 26 km, the views are beautiful. But seasoned tourists warn that if you plan to spend a long time here, you need to bring food and water supplies with you.
The bay got its name due to the fact that in the 50s from here Lieutenant General Chernorez V.A. supervised nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk test site. His mobile car was parked here.
Marine Corps
This bay is a 4 km long sandy beach located in the north of the Kerch Peninsula. The name was given to it in honor of the memorable landing of the 83rd Infantry Brigade in December 1941, as a result of which the entire Kerch Peninsula was liberated from the enemy.Tourists come here primarily because of the healing waters and mud of Chokrak Lake, which is located 50 meters from the coast of the bay.
Carnelian
In the old days, gemstones were mined on the slopes of Mount Kara-Dag, most of all - carnelian. Hence the name of the bay located here. And now sometimes a particularly successful bather is rewarded with a precious find.
Sevastopol
Sevastopol is washed from almost all sides by sea water, it is not for nothing that it is sometimes called the city of a thousand bays. There are indeed a lot of them here. Actually Sevastopol (more than 7 km into the land, area - 7.96 sq. Km) includes more than a dozen smaller ones. But there are many bays near the city that are not included in it. It has its own Golden Bay, Golubaya, and Salt Bay.
Cossack
In the west is the Cossack Bay, on the shore of which there is the city's microdistrict of the same name, or simply Kazachka. Cape Chersonesus separates the bay from Kamyshovaya Bay, and on the other side there is another small bay - Salt Bay. The name Cossack is connected with the fact that during the Russian-Turkish war the Cossacks set up pickets here.
New (Sand)
On the coast of this bay there is a park named after Anna Akhmatova. The beach here was created artificially, sand was specially brought here, which is why they later called the Pesochnaya or Novaya Bay.
The largest bays
Considered in length, the following ranking can be made:
- Generalskaya - 26 km;
- Tatarskaya - 25 km;
- Laspi - 12 km.
In terms of depth, the championship will be behind Balaklavskaya. It is considered the deepest bay in Europe, since in some places the distance to the bottom reaches 35 m.
Most visited places
The best rest is different for everyone. Most of the tourists are, of course, in places with developed infrastructure, for example, in the Karadzha Bay, Kazachya or Laspi. Balaklavskaya is also one of the most visited. Attraction - the Chembalo fortress on Mount Kastron (Fortress). Water sports center (windsurfing, kiting) - Tatarskaya Bay. You can improve your health with the help of healing mud, for example, in the Bay of the Marine Corps. And those who want to retire should visit the Bay of Love or Kipchak.
