Pictures for the kitchen: how to choose and where to hang?

Paintings are rarely used to decorate a kitchen space, but in vain. A well-chosen element is able to create the necessary flavor of the room or complete the existing look of the interior.

Decorating a kitchen using fine art can always be a good solution if it does not contradict the chosen design. Painting in the interior adds personality and also demonstrates the good taste of its owner. However, an inappropriate image can ruin the entire kitchen, and therefore the item should always be selected in accordance with some important criteria. First of all, we are talking about the plot.

The kitchen is a space in which it is recommended to maintain a calm atmosphere that does not interfere with either the preparation or consumption of food. Therefore, the picture should create a similar mood: positive, peaceful, moderately focused and relaxed. Landscapes and still lifes with flowers, fruits and vegetables are most suitable for this purpose. Kitchen pictures have their own specifics in terms of the materials used. Since the room is characterized by constant temperature drops and high air humidity, it is important to choose a material that can “survive” the negative impact. In the case when it comes to posters, you need special photo paper with a high density. In this case, it is strongly not recommended to use low quality paper or synthetic film, which is bubbled during temperature fluctuations. Plastic frames suffer from a similar problem, and therefore should be discarded.

Oil paintings, painted on linen or cotton canvas, do well. They should be inserted into frames made of natural wood. Tapestry images look good and do not deteriorate from temperatures, but their use is not appropriate in every situation.

It is reasonable to pre-coat any image with a special varnish, which is responsible for both protection from sunlight and moisture. It is better to place posters under glass, as glass surfaces lend themselves to much easier maintenance, and also reliably protect the image itself. It is customary to place modular paintings on natural canvases or put them under glass.

Do not forget about the possibility of placing a voluminous work on the wall, if this does not contradict the style used. Alternatively, these can be works from salted dough or coffee beans. They are notable for satisfactory durability, but it is rather difficult to care for them.

The presence of red elements, for example, flowers or fruits, as well as green details, such as fields or forests, is important.
