Materials (edit)
To create a two-level or multi-level ceiling surface, plasterboard is sometimes combined with stretching material. Experts do not recommend installing plasterboard ceilings for the kitchen, as this coating does not tolerate moisture well. The slightest leak from above spoils the appearance of the ceiling.
Two-tier structures, consisting only of a tension cloth, are assembled within one day. They create three-dimensional shapes and different planes on the ceiling. At the junction of the levels, perfect lines are obtained, thanks to which it becomes possible to combine different colors.
Stretch fabric is made of PVC or fabric impregnated with polyester (lavsan) and polyurethane. The textile cover is more durable and frost-resistant than PVC. It is a safe synthetic material. Its durability is due to its correct use. The warranty period is 10 to 15 years.
The canvas has different textures.
- Glossy (or varnish) the coating is recommended in a confined space of standard height in order to visually increase the space due to the reflective effect. The glossy surface is used in the manufacture of unusual ceilings, it is distinguished by bright colors and special color rendering properties.
- Matte canvas suitable for any kitchen and any ceiling height. The matte film is flexible and easy to install. It does not reflect light, it looks like an ordinary whitewashed ceiling. No assembly seams are visible on the matte surface. Perfectly matches the classic style.
- Satin finish looks very dignified and noble, the tone of the surface changes depending on the lighting. The film is distinguished by its high cost and complexity during installation. Satin can be easily washed from soot and dust. The fabric is highly durable, so it cannot be scratched or punctured. The satin finish easily withstands any temperature fluctuations.
- Vinyl stretch ceilings are able to contain a very large volume of water when flowing from above. They do not tolerate any mechanical damage poorly, therefore they require a very careful and careful attitude during installation and operation. Such canvases are rarely used.
All of these materials are resistant to steam and condensation. They are waterproof and can hold huge amounts of water. After removing the liquid, the coating returns to its previous appearance. The canvases are easy to assemble and replace.
The material is sensitive to mechanical damage and abrasive detergents. It is recommended to take care of the stretched fabric with a soft cloth using soapy water, dishwashing detergent or glass, mirrors. The film can be damaged by incandescent or halogen bulbs.
It is best to use neon and LED lighting.
Color solutions
The choice of colors depends on the taste of the owners. Some people prefer to decorate the kitchen with bright colors. Others like pale colors. Purple, emerald or light green shades go well with a metallic sheen. White ceilings are in harmony with wooden furnishings. The choice of a snow-white canvas obliges you to wash the ceiling every 3 months. Two-tone ceilings look good.
The ceilings in the kitchenette are more suitable for light colors. Light blue, milky, cream, sand, beige colors fit especially well. They create a visual expansion of space. Pale shades can be revived with multi-colored blotches.
In a large room, dark colors are often used. Cherry and dark green shades are in trend. The dark blue and black colors give the kitchen a gloomy feeling. When choosing such a color, the number of lamps should be increased.
Peach and rich green tones give the mirror surface a special effect. Vivid colors should be used with care to avoid overpowering the space. A bright color palette is recommended to be combined with noble calm shades. In this case, you need to select the appropriate decor.
Blue can be melancholy. The bright green tone reduces activity and has a sedative effect. Gray and brown shades depress the psyche. Excessive red color can cause irritation.
Orange, brown, yellow and red tones increase appetite. They are recommended for use in the kitchen. Overweight people are advised to use blue, purple and blue shades. They help reduce appetite.
Design options
Tension structures can embody the most bizarre design of a designer. Two or more levels of canvases, located at different heights, create a stunning and original composition. The tiered ceiling is able to visually completely change the shape of any room. It can visually shorten the elongated kitchen and smooth out the angularity of the room. Thanks to the stepped design, you can create the appearance of an increase or decrease in space.
The ceiling covering, which has 2 levels, looks very aesthetically pleasing. It is practical and convenient. The upper tier is 5-10 cm from the ceiling, the second tier is 20-30 cm. Both tiers are a stretch covering without a gap.
Two-level structures can be in the form of arches, domes, waves, zigzags, flowers, geometric shapes, sharp and smooth lines. They are positioned asymmetrically and symmetrically. The ceiling structure can be a square, rectangle, circle, oval, semicircle, polygon, trapezoid. The tier can have a bizarre shape in the form of a cloud, blot, heart.
The optimal solution is to install glossy film ceilings in the kitchen. They reflect light and all interior items, visually increasing the space. A combination of glossy and matte canvases is widely used when installing two-level structures. Some people prefer drawing a picture, a 3D image or a photograph.
Glossy ceilings are often used to visually expand living space. Most often, level 1 is made from a glossy canvas. Matte surfaces usually adorn the second tier. The harmonious combination of the ceiling with furniture, textiles, household appliances is of great importance.
Too bright lighting and too dim light are not suitable for the kitchen. It is best to separate the lighting on different switches. In the central part of the kitchen, designers recommend placing a chandelier. Spot lighting should be installed above the working area. The room is often decorated with pendant round, conical and elongated lamps. Point lighting devices are most often built into the lower tier. There are options with illumination throughout the ceiling area.
Area lighting is suitable for a kitchen decorated in loft, art deco, country and American styles.
How to choose?
The choice of a ceiling stretch covering should take into account the peculiarities of the kitchen. If you want a visual increase in space, you should give preference to a glossy surface in the form of an ellipse or rectangle. To create a cozy space, a matte or satin ceiling is ideal. Smooth lines add softness to the entire space.
The kitchen, located on the north side, is great for glossy designs in light shades. With kitchen windows facing west, you should opt for bright and warm colors. Those who have a kitchen on the south side should give preference to cold shades. For the south, the cool turquoise color of the ceiling is ideal. For example, a bunk ceiling in a mix of blue and red brings freshness to the east side of the kitchen space.
