Not so long ago, embossed walls came into vogue: thick layers of paint, volumetric figures and a brick wall. Yes, she won the hearts of a large number of people - many, inspired, began to use this form of giving originality to their kitchen. Then the designers came to the aid of brick-like wallpaper, which creates an atmosphere of comfort, warm fireplace and European traditions.

Why do you need such a wallpaper?

At all times, people have striven to ensure that their homes are safe and feel protected. It is not for nothing that there is such a phrase in society: "My home is my fortress." It gives a person the confidence that he can relax in his home and not worry about sudden changes that bring any undesirable consequences.

And what can give a person such confidence, if not the design of the room and the external picture of where he lives? Therefore, many, recalling the cozy atmosphere of the past centuries, gave their preference to the walls in the form of brickwork.

It looks quite interesting, primitive, but perfectly matches the modern furniture of the room, complementing the bold design image with its appearance.

Usually brick walls are made in the kitchen. Many owners were satisfied with the result and noted that the appearance of this finish creates a special atmosphere inherent in the “heart of the house”. It's nice to come to such a room and cook. Indeed, kitchens with a brick wall compare favorably with kitchens with the usual wallpaper, familiar from the times of the USSR. Now any room can be turned into a gothic palace or a modern minimalist room.

Such options look quite interesting in apartments with a small area, being almost the only opportunity to create original images in a limited area.

The use of masonry wallpaper can be a myriad of options. There is an incredible variety of brick shades that look great in the interior of the kitchen, from white to dark brick. But not only this is where their differences end, it can be the quality of the material from which the wallpaper is made, the number of "bricks", their expression among the main background - "cement". The price of the finished version also plays an important role.

Below are the popular types of such coatings and a brief description of them.

  • Paper - one of the economical options, they are all familiar "stickers" on a soft base. Small bumps in the form of brickwork create the desired look.

They also combine environmental friendliness, unlike other materials, without presenting any danger affecting human health.

  • Vinyl combine high quality and a special similarity with their real "brothers". They completely imitate brick with all its roughness, irregularities, bends. A huge advantage of this type is that the wallpaper protects the room from external influences - be it scuffs, tears or stains. Vinyl perfectly "tolerates" moisture, dampness, so it will look especially good in basements with no natural light.

Sudden temperature changes do not harm vinyl, which exalts this material over other variations of wall pasting. Most often it is used as a decoration for hallways, baths and kitchens - places where pollution of a different nature is most common.

  • Non-woven in popularity they stand between paper and vinyl. Their quality cannot be called the best, but this option is quite suitable for pasting a kitchen. Non-woven fabric creates an image of masonry, adheres well to the wall, so it does not create any particular problems during repairs.

Which ones to choose?

Having studied the main types of wallpaper and the material from which they are created, you should proceed to the next step - the choice of wall covering in accordance with factors such as price / quality.

  • The cheapest option is undoubtedly paper ones. Their cost rarely goes beyond ordinary coatings with soft bumps. The main disadvantage is that because of them, a separate part of the house can acquire a dull and unattractive appearance. But you should pay attention to the fact that paper is suitable only for dry rooms and rooms without constant sudden changes in temperature.

From the foregoing, a logical conclusion immediately follows - this is not the best option for the kitchen. This type should be protected from abrasions, sharp cutting objects and moisture. The disadvantages can also be attributed to the fact that they do not fully reproduce the masonry for which the image was created.

  • The average cost of non-woven fabric varies from 700 rubles per meter (2019)... Coverings are suitable for kitchens and rooms, but should be used with care in the hallway. Such wallpapers are able to "survive" moisture, washing.

The only drawback is that an air gap forms between the wall and the non-woven fabric, which contributes to the formation of mold in this place.

  • Vinyls are not afraid of many factors that can damage their appearance. But their main disadvantage is their high price. They are mainly used where people do not live, since the non-woven fabric does not allow air to pass through, which can adversely affect the health of people and animals living in the house.

Wallpaper color

They differ in color and represent an endless variety of variations - from monochromatic shades to color changes almost every half a meter. In order to refresh the kitchen, designers often choose wallpaper under a white brick. They go well with the metallic color of kitchen furniture and cooking utensils. Monochrome also looks good. bright objects and everyday things that have rich colors.

In the interior, under a light brick, they usually leave as much free space as possible. Thus, the appearance of a large area and special comfort is created. Therefore, the designers have developed a rule: the smaller the room, the brighter it should be.

It should be borne in mind that in good lighting all irregularities or damage to the vertical surface are perfectly visible. This can distort the previous idea, therefore, when choosing an option, it is worth taking exactly high-quality ones, with a voluminous pattern. Non-woven and vinyl surfaces meet these requirements.

In dark places, on the contrary, smooth options are used. In this case, paper or non-woven wallpaper is suitable.

Another type of brick is red. She is the most popular among all the others. This is facilitated by the fact that, unlike white, it is not very dirty and resembles real masonry.

But for lovers of variety, there is also a solution. - those who decided to glue the room white, can decorate the corners, arches and sections of the walls where large objects are located with red. With this solution, the room is completely changed and transformed. The problem of the unevenness of the room is solved in the same way.

Masonry drawing

Bricks are inherently different in size. They can be in the form of small pebbles, large rectangles or squares. They also differ in the degree of "scuffs" - new polished or old, with "defects" and broken edges. It all depends on the design idea and the interior of the room. Someone chooses a new coating, and someone is content with the "old" if it fits the idea, reminiscent of, for example, the Gothic style.

Bulky “stones” look much more natural than their smooth “cousins”. They attract more attention, reproduce the imitation of masonry, thus creating the appearance as if the wall is really made of brick. Various matt and glossy finishes are also available on the market.

They should be used in small dark rooms or rooms that do not focus on the wallpaper.

disadvantages

No matter how good the wallpaper and the master who glued it, they are not real bricks. When using such a finish, all joints become visible in the kitchen. That's why designers it is not recommended to direct artificial light to such wallpaper, to place the chandelier exactly in the middle and avoid lighting on the sides. Finishing on one or several opposite walls will look good. In such cases bulky furniture will be just the way.

Covering a part of the wall, it visually distracts the viewer's attention from all the shortcomings of artificial decoration, and the delimitation allows you to determine the places for the rest of the necessary items of kitchen use: a refrigerator, a washing machine, drawers for dishes, a table.

In small kitchens it is not at all necessary to follow this rule, since the objects are for the most part loaded on each other, and there is not enough space in the room in order to find a place for them. Red brick against the background of the main color helps to diversify the interior and distract the eye from possible visible imperfections.

The main thing is that the shades are neutral, otherwise the riot of colors will only distract attention. The ideal option is to combine brickwork with natural colors in the interior.
