Country kitchen design ideas

The homeliness of a typical ranch, a bit provincial, solid and simple, adorns both urban and country interiors. But, despite the external lightness, it is rather difficult to implement such a stylistic solution on your own.

He does not accept gloss, an abundance of glass or concrete - it is important to achieve complete authenticity in order to create a truly beautiful interior, filled with an atmosphere of comfort and home warmth. When embodying country style in modern homes and apartments some liberties are allowed, but its basic principles are still recommended to be observed.
What curtains in the interior design of the kitchen-living room will be appropriate, is it possible to choose a modular kitchen set for a small room, or is it better to give preference to a built-in solution - we will consider these and other questions in this article.
Design features
Country style cuisine can be quite different. In the classic embodiment, it is meant to recreate the atmosphere of an American ranch or an English country cottage. But country is also the general name for all "rustic" national styles - from Provence to shabby chic.
And yet it is the American direction in the spirit of westerns and romance, which embodies the life of ordinary farmers and pastoralists of the past, that is considered canonical and is considered as a standard for decorating rural interiors.
Among the typical signs of the country style are the following.
- Combining space. For country, a typical element is a kitchen-living room or a kitchen-dining room, which allows you to delimit the space by highlighting functional areas.
- Simple, natural color palette. The interior in white, brown, green, red looks very attractive, naturally, it allows you to implement a complex design with minimal effort and cost.
- Versatility. The rustic style looks appropriate even in a city apartment - in a "Khrushchev" or in a modern studio, but it fits especially harmoniously into the interior of a country house, where the building itself also contributes to the formation of the desired mood.
- The use of natural materials. Wood, ceramics, textiles and other types of natural raw materials are always appropriate here. Moreover, rough processing, slight negligence, patina, elements of antiquity are welcome.
- Decor, handmade furniture or imitation... Painting, painting surfaces are welcome. A small kitchen can be decorated with colorful rugs, rugs, and capes. A cozy spacious room allows you to place massive antique chests of drawers, chests, giving the interior authenticity.
- Ornaments and patterns of a certain type... Cage and polka dots, floral patterns, rural prints fit well into the aesthetics of country.
What definitely shouldn't be in a rustic kitchen is modern plastic, chrome details, overly luxurious decor. Everything here is practical, harmonious and rational. Country music does not tolerate polish, completeness - this is a style for life, and not for a glossy picture in a magazine.
Choosing a kitchen set
Country style does not require the creation of a classic linear headset in space. Here you can place wall cabinets on the opposite side from the work surface, use the "island". The optimal solution will be modular solid wood furniture - light wooden structures made of ash, beech, linden will fill the space with light.
In a small kitchen in "Khrushchev" you can use a corner set.
Country-style wardrobes can be replaced with chests or tall sideboards with hinged blank doors. Original fittings made of copper, brass, forged hinges, painted surfaces, hand-painted decorative painting will help to achieve the desired effect. Ceramic inserts, contrasting panels, decorative overlay elements are acceptable. With a small kitchen area, you can abandon the usual cabinets, replacing them with shelves along the entire length of the walls.
Simple but solid furniture is also encouraged in the dining area. In a small country-style kitchen, the dining table can be round, in a larger room it can be oval or rectangular. Chairs, stools and armchairs are made of wood with the obligatory upholstered back and seats.
In the living area, wicker rocking chairs, low rattan chairs in the colonial style will be appropriate. Household appliances are placed hidden, mounted inside furniture, or purchased in a retro style.
Color spectrum
There are certain traditions in country style and in the choice of colors for interior decoration. Usually, light shades are used - bleached, patinated. The most common is the use of natural motives.
Country style is characterized by white and green kitchens, there are blue, brown, red versions. Instead of playing on contrasts, when a light color is complemented by a dark one, here they try to achieve the most harmonious decorative solution, support it with textiles and wallpaper.
Country-style brown furniture looks especially harmonious in the interior. Earth and chocolate shades, cinnamon and tobacco shades are well suited for making furniture bases or upholstery. Ceiling beams can also be brown, accented, in the spirit of an apple barn. In any case, a country-style interior is not complete without this color.
White cuisine in the spirit of a rural idyll will also not be quite usual. Among the shades used are confectionery associations: vanilla, creamy tones, milky, from light to baked milk, light sand inclusions are permissible... The facades of kitchen furniture remain as simple as possible, complemented by metal handles, solid wood countertops.
Green country style kitchen Is another popular option that allows you to harmoniously combine traditional brown shades with more cheerful tones of luscious foliage, fresh greenery or ripe olive. Calm, slightly muted tones (mint, emerald) can be combined in furniture decoration with gray, beige.
An olive dining set or a living-dining room of the same shade looks harmonious.
Rustic blue kitchen may look quite appropriate too. Here it is better to choose kitchen facades painted in a forget-me-not color. Whitewashed blue looks good in a dining set.
Finishing options
It is impossible to imagine country style combined with modern materials. Traditional solutions are appropriate here, which do not imply excessive shine or gloss. In many ways, the rural style today has become elite, because only natural materials are used in it - wood, vine, stone, ceramics... How to comply with all the canons when decorating a typical house or apartment?
Ceiling
On the ceiling of the country-style kitchen, the main decoration is the rough wooden beams, not hidden under the decorative coating, but on display. You can build false beams in the interior by making MDF boxes with a wood-like finish, and hide modern wiring in them. The main ceiling covering is usually painted white.
Walls
Country-style wall decoration looks incredibly stylish and interesting. When choosing coverings, you can choose wallpaper, but it is better to decorate the dining area with them. Here floral prints in a rustic style will be appropriate, you can choose soft silk or other fabric coverings. In the "wet" area, it is best to use moisture resistant materials.
Different types of tiles will be appropriate here - clinker, ceramic, brick or chipped stone. The surface of the coating should be rough, without excess gloss.
Shiny glazed tiles go well with the design of the apron area. Here, too, are appropriate patchwork elements, ethnic motives and ornaments. If you want unusual details, you can decorate the walls with textured plaster or lay out a part of it with a mosaic with a pastoral plot.
Floor
The choice of flooring for a rustic kitchen always implies the use of natural boards. Here it is worth using elements impregnated with oil compounds or covered with matte types of varnish. Large-format whitewashed, brushed planks look good. A parquet board is suitable, but it is better to use a terraced or deck installation option.
A stone is also appropriate on the floor - in the form of porcelain stoneware, tiles that imitate the texture and pattern of natural material. Plain flooring can be done in terracotta, earthy tones, chocolate, or pure white. In a country house, you can install a limestone floor.
Individual areas can be decorated with patchwork tiles, similar to a patchwork quilt.
Organization of lighting
Arranging proper lighting is very important in country style. It is worth giving up modern solutions and cold white light bulbs... The interior should contain one chandelier with a lush fabric or lace lampshade, stained glass.
Spot illumination in a warm yellow light spectrum is installed in the working areas. In the recreation area in the living room, it will be appropriate to use floor lamps on a high leg, with textile lampshades to match the upholstery of the walls or furniture.
Curtains and other textiles
In a rustic interior, textiles play an important role. Country style uses short curtains with ruffles, ruffles, ribbons, lace border... Curtains with a small floral print, a pattern in the form of a cage or peas are welcome. Among the materials, the optimal solution would be natural fabrics - cotton, linen... Tablecloths and curtains, towels, furniture upholstery are made of them.
Elegant lace on the windows, tables also looks cute and home-like. Machine products are inappropriate here, but manual work will look great in such an interior. You can complement the linen tablecloth with small lace napkins.
Decor elements
Country-style interior decorating allows you to use heirlooms and other household items from the past. Even the shelves can act as an interesting detail - rough, wooden, they look good on plain walls, and are suitable for storing spices and cutlery. For bread, fruits, it is worth starting wicker baskets, which have a unique charm and at the same time rural flavor.
A country-style kitchen is not complete without bright, characteristic details. - old clock with a pendulum or cuckoo. Wooden chests made of polished wood with carvings or bright ornaments can also become part of the interior, turn into an element of the storage system. Glossy stove tiles, embroidery or paintings in a primitive style look good as a panel. In American country style, horse drawings and paintings of horses are often used.
The original kitchen utensils also fit well with the rustic style. Carved cutting boards, rolling pins, knives with handles in the author's style will be appropriate here. For decoration, you can use stove pots, setting them as a container for flowers, like a planter or even a vase.
Oil lamps or lamps stylized for them also look pretty good, as well as imitation gas lamps.
Plates brightly painted using the majolica technique can be placed on the wall shelves in the kitchen. In a country house, the kitchen can be additionally decorated with a hearth with natural fire, a fireplace in a portal made of natural limestone. Forged parts - grilles-screens on radiators and even whole panels can serve as decoration or an element of space zoning.
