Recently, special attention has been paid to the style of the interior. At the same time, today they are trying to find a single style for each room in the home, including the kitchen. In this article, we will consider the nuances of modern kitchen design, one of the most popular areas of interior design.

Style features

According to the generally accepted description, Art Nouveau is one of the modern interior styles with a number of characteristic features. It is not for nothing that it is considered one of the best design solutions for the arrangement of kitchens. In the absence of pomp and pretentiousness, it remains moderately elegant and comfortable.

Its distinctive features include:

  • functionality, since each element of the interior up to the decor carries a certain load;
  • the presence of built-in furniture and appliances, which makes it easier to work in the kitchen and eliminates injury from protruding corners;
  • the presence in the interior of materials with a smooth and glossy type of surface, through which it is possible to visually refine and expand the space;
  • mixing monochrome gamut with bright colors of the color palette, which is used to accentuate the interior;
  • the minimum amount of textiles in the interior composition, while the appearance of the room remains incredibly cozy and stylish;
  • asymmetrical arrangement of furnishing elements, which eliminates the everyday life of the interior;
  • a combination of different materials, in particular metal and wood, glass and plastic, which brings versatility to the design;
  • smoothness of furniture outlines, curvature of lines, which relieves the interior of boredom;
  • the minimum number of prints and patterns or their complete absence, due to which the interior becomes expressive;
  • competent use of room zoning techniques, through which it is possible to achieve the organization of space and order.

The main task of the modern style kitchen is to create an atmosphere of comfort with a feeling of maximum spaciousness of the room. In this case, the kitchen must be equipped with the latest technology. Here, not only asymmetry is important, but also a mild geometricity. A characteristic feature of the stylistics is the attraction to light tones of the color palette, which is good for small kitchens.

In addition, every item used for the interior is weighed for functionality. There is no place for superfluous things in the Art Nouveau kitchen. In terms of popularity, the style can be compared with the classics, which used to be tried to be embodied in the best houses of respectable people. Today, the desire for palace solemnity is embodied more often in the interiors of country houses with sufficient footage.

Modern is a great alternative, an excellent solution for apartments of different sizes, layouts and light levels. Its resources are a minimum of clutter, accessories and trinkets, a maximum of space, gloss and manufacturability. Taking them into account, it will not be difficult to create a fashionable interior, both in a studio apartment and in a small kitchen.

Choosing a kitchen set

An Art Nouveau headset should be unusual, with curved shapes and asymmetrical lines. For example, corner models should have a smooth corner that can be rounded outward or inward. Corner drawers can even be conventionally rounded and smoothed, which is especially true for small kitchens. To achieve a glossy effect, facades can be finished with enamel, acrylic, foil or varnish.

The contrast of texture is important, and therefore, along with wood, it is necessary to choose furniture elements made of artificial materials. The interior must have furniture with a glossy metal texture (stainless steel). At the same time, the style does not prohibit the use of stone, MDF and plastic in the headset. Furniture can have different configurations and colors, and it is great if its handles are made of metal and have a laconic design.

A hood, fittings, accessories, mechanisms for opening and closing drawers can be metal. It is great if the headset is equipped with a modern type of bottle holder. Depending on the layout, the headsets can be linear, angular and U-shaped. Models can have an island and a peninsula, the more technologically advanced they are, the better.

Storage systems inside wall-mounted and floor-standing drawers should be as user-friendly as possible. They can be vertical or horizontal. The headset can be built-in a bottle-type cabinet-column. It is imperative that a modern oven with a self-cleaning function is built into the furniture. You can choose just this option.

Tables can be part of a kitchen unit or be an independent island with a sink and a cutting part. In this case, you can choose not only one - but also two-level, which allows you to use the upper level as a dining counter. You can purchase the ensemble with a bar counter, complementing it with high bar stools with stainless steel legs.

The facades of the headset should be monochromatic and glossy, as smooth as possible. The furniture itself can be lined up in a straight line or combining standard wardrobes with rounded modular blocks. Usually it is united by a single table top made of wood or stone. Often, the facades of wall cabinets are diluted with glass inserts. This brings the illusion of lightness and visual spaciousness into the interior.

As for the drawing, it does not appear often on furniture facades, and in the ensemble it can be a single stroke only on one of the modular blocks. The convenience of the laconic headset is the ability to select chairs of an unusual shape for it. In this case, corner models may not have a right angle at all, but an acute one. Corner elements can be bar-type tables, made in a curved shape, on one leg, with separate lighting or a hinged glass storage system.

You need to choose a set based on your own taste preferences, the footage of a particular kitchen, and budget possibilities. On sale there are straight, u-shaped and angular modular type sets, economy class models, as well as stylish products of a high level of performance. Models can have not only closed storage systems: the range of trade suppliers includes models with open shelves and plastic inserts.

Color matching rules

The Art Nouveau style has its own priorities in the choice of color. The main tones of the background are white, light gray and beige. They can be diluted with bright strokes. The bluish-smoky shade of the color palette, as well as shades of wood of noble varieties, including the tone of light wenge oak, looks beautiful in this style. Light warm shades and warm tones will be a good choice for a background solution.

Important, hso that metallic colors contrast against the background of the chosen color, which can be silver and gray-black... The selected tones should be in harmony with the wood. Bright touches can be embodied in inserts made of plastic or other artificial material. These can be the facades of cabinets, headsets, appliances, chairs, shades of lighting devices, decorative elements (for example, a picture or a vase with live greens).

According to the rule of color combination, 3 colors are used in the interior of the Art Nouveau kitchen, which allows to achieve restraint and elegance. They take a light tone as a basis, make it brighter by adding contrast and add a third one for versatility. Ideally, use white, brown and gray.

Which finish is right for you?

Styling resources allow you to choose a variety of materials for furnishing your kitchen, including economy class. The project can provide for a combination of different cladding, whereby versatility is achieved and boring is eliminated.

Ceiling

The ceiling of the Art Nouveau kitchen can be suspended or suspended. Both are often performed in cream, beige and white colors. Occasionally they are decorated with photo printing. Suspension systems are made of plasterboard, which can be given different shapes. If desired, the material can be painted and covered with fiberglass.

Stretch ceilings are distinguished by a variety of textures and colors. In fact, this is a film that is stretched over the frame, preheated with a heat gun. These materials have varying degrees of reflectivity, they give the necessary gloss to the stylistics up to the mirror type of the surface. In this case, the designs provide for internal lighting of the ceiling. If you want something different, you can decorate the ceiling with polystyrene tiles.

It is worth noting that film and drywall are often combined in modern design. This allows you to give uniqueness to the interior, more rational to think over the location of ceiling lamps. When decorating, you can mix matte and glossy textures, due to which the ceiling design looks interesting without a pattern. As for the design, it can be one-, two- and three-level. Typically, the larger the kitchen, the more levels can be.

Floor

For the modern kitchen floor, you can use different materials: ceramic tiles, linoleum, self-leveling floor, as well as solid wood. Linoleum is considered a budget material, although it looks very beautiful and appropriate in the interior. Ceramics adds a special flavor, but its pattern and texture must be selected correctly. In addition, it can form cracks and chips when heavy objects fall on it.

The self-leveling floor has no seams and looks very impressive in the interior. Usually it has a sufficient level of gloss, is resistant to moisture, chemicals, and is able to imitate the texture of any material, up to stone, quartz and slate. If desired, with the help of this material, you can equip not the entire floor in the kitchen, but only some part, making it a stylish accent of the interior. The color is selected based on the color scheme taken as the basis for the design of a particular kitchen.

Wood in such kitchens is used less often for flooring. It is expensive, deforms and dries out over time. On the floor, it does not look as beautiful as in the color of furniture or even an apron. Someone prefers to buy a laminate for flooring, while taking a top-class option that is resistant to different points of use.

Walls

The walls of the Art Nouveau kitchen carry the background load; they are not interior accents. In view of this, the use of materials with pictures and extraordinary texture is excluded. Wallpaper or painted walls are considered the ideal solution. There should not be anything superfluous on them: the priority is plain materials. The only exception would be the kitchen apron area. However, it should not have a pattern, the size of the tile should be medium.

Apron

The apron of the Art Nouveau kitchen is usually made in the same color as the wall. It can also be contrasting, but without radical color combinations (for example, you cannot mix black with red, red with green). In priority, the type of surface of the facing material should be glossy. However, if at the same time the facades of the headset are glossy, the texture of the apron may be matte.

The materials for its production can be glass and tiles. The choice of skins allows you to achieve lightness of texture and reduce the number of carved lines, which are rich in tiling. Sometimes, when designing an apron, designers resort to combining facing materials.

Organization of lighting

Taking into account the craving of style for everything modern and technological, lighting is considered taking into account the choice of products that are ergonomic and effective. At the same time, they must fit into the overall design, and therefore the priority is for models with the texture of metal, plastic, as well as creative-type chandeliers. For example, it can be a spider ceiling chandelier that looks impressive against the background of a laconic design.

Ceiling-type models can have round and geometric shapes. Given the zoning techniques, ceiling lighting can be separate for each functional area of the kitchen. For example, you can highlight a bar counter, a guest space, a dining area, a resting place. As for a stand or a tall narrow table, it can be illuminated with a number of identical single-type lamps. This design looks stylish and impressive.

The main ceiling space is often indicated by LED-type spotlights. Their disadvantage lies in the direction of the light flux, which means that they have to be placed on the ceiling along the entire perimeter with the same pitch.

Curtains and other textiles

There should be as little textiles as possible in this interior. Considering that Art Nouveau windows are usually large, at best they can be decorated with a laconic translucent material without a pattern. The texture of the material, if there is gloss in the furniture elements, should be matte. Furniture upholstery textiles in kitchens-living rooms should be monochromatic, in color that does not stand out from the general color scheme.

Towels and potholders are unnecessarily put away in bottle holders. In theory, they should not be in plain sight, the color of the products may be different. Carpeted floors can decorate the living space of the kitchen-living room. Moreover, it can be plain or with a discreet and uncomplicated print.

As for the curtains, Art Nouveau does not really need them. However, given that we are used to hiding what is happening in the house from prying prying eyes from the street, here you can use modern type curtains, called roller blinds. They are short, covering only the window frame, or even the window sashes. Their manufacturability allows them to fit into the Art Nouveau style: they are opened by winding textiles made of mixed fibers onto a special roll or so-called cassette.
