Neoclassicism is a unique style. It is a harmonious tandem of tradition elegance and modern achievements. The kitchen, decorated in this way, becomes not just a place for cooking and eating, but a corner of relaxation and aesthetic pleasure. We will talk about the nuances of kitchen space design in a luxurious neoclassical style in this article.

Style Description

Neoclassicism combines the features of the classics and modern trends in interior design. The basis is the classic features, but there is no massiveness, pretentiousness. The furnishings are graceful and light. This style can be applied both when decorating a country mansion and when decorating a city apartment. It is ideal for those who appreciate the discreet luxury of yesteryear, but want to keep up with the times.

The main features of the neoclassical style:

  • a feeling of spaciousness in the premises (there should not be crowding of furniture);
  • an abundance of light (natural and artificial);
  • orderliness and symmetry in the arrangement of objects;
  • clear distribution of zones;
  • the severity of rectangular facades of cabinets, pedestals;
  • noble color scheme of the environment (pastel colors and calm deep shades);
  • the use of natural materials (or their imitation);
  • vintage motives in decoration and furniture;
  • sophisticated decor in small quantities.

Large rooms with high ceilings are best suited to create a neoclassical atmosphere. It is supposed to be spacious, a lot of light.In addition, it is impossible to arrange only one room in the spirit of a modern reading of the classics, the whole house should be harmonious. Therefore, the kitchen is often combined with the living room. This allows you to "turn around", dividing the space into zones and as close as possible to the mood of the design.

However, if desired, even the small kitchen can be dressed in a solemn neoclassical setting. Here, the problem of lack of space is solved by the correct arrangement of furniture and the predominance of light shades that visually expand the room.

The materials used in the work are both traditional and innovative. The style allows the introduction of modern technology into the composition, some fashionable design solutions. Only the clear geometry of the layout and the sophistication of forms remain unchanged.

Subtleties of planning

As already mentioned, this style requires a lot of free space. If you have a spacious kitchen, you can furnish it without changing the layout. If the kitchen is small, combining it with the room will be an excellent solution. This will give freedom to implement various design ideas. Natural lighting will be improved due to additional windows. There will be an opportunity to select a large model of a kitchen set. Of course, such a combination is appropriate if the apartment has a separate bedroom. The kitchen space should smoothly flow into the dining room, intended for lunches and dinners, relaxing over a cup of tea, and receiving guests.

Any hint of a sleeping place is unacceptable here.

A studio is, in fact, a ready-made kitchen-living room. Here it remains only to think over the organization of the sleeping place, which should be fenced off or carefully disguised. For example, it can be a fold-out sofa that fits in with the selected style. Next to it, you can put a small coffee table, which will easily be set aside at night. Bedding is hidden in cupboards or inside a sofa.

When redeveloping a standard apartment, the wall between the kitchen and the room does not need to be removed completely. If you leave a small vertical partition, you can hide the sink or refrigerator behind it. Another interesting move is to leave a low horizontal partition. It can be used as a bar counter or a shelf for vases of flowers.

You can also place an open shelving here.

If unification is not planned, and the room cannot boast of large dimensions, you can get out of the situation by installing a compact headset. A traditional dining table can be replaced with a bar counter. Another option is to remake the window sill under the countertop. In this case, household appliances should be built-in.

Correct decorative finishing is also of great importance here. For example, wall panels can be made glossy or mirrored. This will visually expand the space. It is better to choose large interior elements (headsets, table) in light colors. Small details (stools, chairs, etc.) can be made a little darker.

When combining the kitchen and dining room in one large room, it is important not to forget about zoning. Areas for cooking, eating, and resting should be clearly identified. You can divide the room into sections using different methods.

  • Furniture. You can demarcate the territory using a bar counter, dining table, sofa or shelving.
  • Decorative designs. Columns and arches can be used as a divider.
  • Light. In the cooking zone, it can be intensified: the creation of culinary masterpieces requires good lighting. The dining area, on the other hand, can be illuminated softly and absently. This will create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
  • Different floor levels. You can put a table with chairs on a small podium, or you can raise the kitchen area in this way. The difference in height should be only a few centimeters. This will be enough.
  • Floor material. As a floor covering for the work area (next to the sink and stove), you can choose tiles, ceramic tiles or natural stone. The eating area can be decorated with parquet or laminate flooring.
  • Wall decoration. The apron can be made in one color with the decoration of other walls. This technique is appropriate in a small room. In a spacious hall, you can effectively highlight the work area with a different color of the wall material.
  • Furniture color. The headset should be done in soothing colors. The dining area can be distinguished by brighter upholstery of the chairs. Juicy tones will cheer you up, invigorate in the morning and awaken your appetite. If the room has a separate seating area (with a sofa, armchairs), it is better to choose relaxing muted shades for it.

Finishing options

Walls

The walls of the room can be decorated in different ways. Painting, use of plaster, wood panels is allowed. Moldings, stucco moldings are often used. You can choose wallpaper. They should be either plain or with a discreet print (monograms, floral or geometric patterns).

The pattern can be repeated in textiles, headset decor.

The apron is made of moisture-resistant, easy-to-clean material. Usually these are ceramic tiles, although other options are possible, for example, panels that imitate brickwork. A glass apron is also acceptable with appropriate styling.

Shades for walls are usually chosen calm: gray, beige. A popular option is the snow-white decoration of the room. Sometimes a brighter tone is used for zoning, for example, turquoise, pistachio or purple. However, this is a rather daring trick that requires careful thought. In this case, the color is chosen not bright, but muted.

This allows you to stay within the chosen style.

Floor

For flooring, you can use parquet, laminate, natural stone or ceramic tiles with a dull pattern. Brown-beige or black-and-white colors are preferable. It is permissible to lay premium carpet in the recreation area, although this solution is rarely used.

It is important to remember that regardless of the material chosen, narrow skirting boards are not used here. The sophistication of the style is well emphasized by wide skirting boards made in a classic style.

Often they are decorated with stucco or discreet ornamentation.

Ceiling

For finishing the ceiling, paint, plaster, decorative panels are often used. Plasterboard structures of two or even three levels look interesting. In this case, a niche is usually provided in the center of the room. Its shape can be either round or rectangular.

If the height of the room is low, you should not artificially lower the ceilings. In this case, the niche can be imitated with a decorative element (molding or baguette).

Tension structures are also acceptable. However, glossy and color options are not suitable. It is better to choose a white matte material.

Furniture selection

Elegant furniture made in the tradition of the classics is relevant for this style. It shouldn't be too massive. On the contrary, lightness and grace are welcomed.

Headsets are often decorated with cornices, moldings, patina. The fittings are usually made in a vintage style, more often they imitate bronze or gold. The glazing is also in keeping with the spirit of yesteryear. The designs of the headsets are different, but the shapes of the cabinets are always rectangular. Straight and clear lines are a characteristic feature of the style (modern curved facades are inappropriate here). Countertops usually imitate stone or are made of natural materials.

The arrangement of furniture should be thought out in such a way as to create an atmosphere of ideal order, symmetry and harmony. Based on this, they choose the shape of the headset. It can be linear or angular. In spacious rooms, a U-shaped arrangement is permissible. The island option is also relevant.The nuances of the latter option are thought out at the stage of creating a kitchen design project.

The dining table can be round, oval or rectangular. For a small room, it is better to choose a product with graceful thin legs or one support. A more solid structure can harmoniously fit into a spacious hall. Wood, durable opaque glass (usually white), and stone can be used as a material. Sometimes a bar counter is used as a table.

Chairs usually have soft fabric upholstery. The design variations are varied. The main thing is compliance with the overall interior composition.

Chairs are often used as accent colors.

Neoclassicism does not require the disguise of modern household appliances. They fit harmoniously into the concept of style. However, it is important that all devices are designed in the same color scheme. Particular attention should be paid to a powerful high-quality hood. It will prevent oily steam and odors from settling on furniture. As a rule, the hood is purchased complete with a headset. In this case, it makes a single whole with the furniture. It is also possible to build the device into the upper row of cabinets.

Often people who decorate a home in the neoclassical style choose furniture made in Italy. Many manufacturers in this country offer luxury models that perfectly fit into the concept of classic luxury and modern comfort. However, today some Russian firms are working in this direction, presenting quite worthy products.

Color matching rules

The color scheme is an important point. This style is based on restrained tones. They emphasize the purity of lines and the overall harmony of the environment. Warm light shades (ivory, creamy, beige) are usually chosen as a base. A cold snow-white space is acceptable. Looks beautiful white with a pearlescent pinkish or grayish tint.

Often the room remains light, only in places "diluted" with caramel or ash notes. This option is relevant for a small area. Sometimes a more contrasting “partner” or accent color is chosen. It can be black, dark chocolate, dark gray, smoky tones of purple, turquoise, blue, green. The colors are selected saturated, deep, but not "flashy". Sometimes the color accent is made on a fragment of the wall (apron, in the area of the dining area). Often, chairs, a sofa, curtains stand out with an exquisite shade. In any case, a calm background remains predominant, and a brighter shade only adds zest with interesting strokes.

A universal and very aesthetic combination - a milky shade and a cocoa color. Brighter combinations create the ever trendy Tiffany color, fresh mint or delicate lavender paired with pure white. The interior turns out to be calmer, where the listed tones are combined with beige. Strong options are obtained by combining white with black or gray.

Organization of lighting

Lighting in neoclassicism should be given special attention. A luxurious chandelier is usually placed in the center of the room. Vintage models with gilding and imitation of candlesticks, modern crystal "waterfalls", products with fabric lampshades and other designs made of glass and metal that harmoniously fit into the environment are allowed.

Multilevel lighting options, additional built-in lamps are often used. It is especially important to organize an abundance of light in the work area. You can decorate the top kitchen cabinets with LED strip lights. In the dining area and seating area (if available), you can hang intimate sconces. By the way, wall models are bought in pairs.

Remember the importance of symmetry to your chosen style.

Curtains and other textiles

Textiles add coziness to the room, making it “homey” despite the elegance of the decor. Curtains in neoclassical kitchens are always fabric.They usually fall easily to the floor, forming soft folds. At the same time, curtains should not overload the interior. Fabrics for window decoration are chosen solid and expensive, but not heavy.

Satin, thick silk, linen, jacquard are perfect.

Usually these are simple two-layer structures fixed to a hidden cornice. However, decorative elements (fringe, tassels, lambrequins) are also acceptable. In any case, the luxury of design is emphasized by the luxurious texture of the material itself. Shades are preferable calm, but not merging with the color of the walls. You can choose both a monochromatic version and a fabric with a large, discreet print (damask patterns, royal lilies).

Tablecloths are not very popular today, but elegant table napkins are often used. Also, textiles are present on the upholstery of upholstered furniture (flock, velor, chenille). In a large hall, a chic carpet will be appropriate.

Remember that all fabric elements in the room should overlap with each other, creating a harmonious ensemble.

Decor elements

Exquisite accessories can enhance the sophistication of the interior. You can decorate the room with vases with fruit or fresh flowers, porcelain figurines, antique clocks, expensive dishes, small paintings in the dining area. Moreover, the decor should be sparse.

It should not overload the space.

Successful examples of interior design

The brown and beige range is a win-win option for a small room.

Bright chairs become an expressive accent against the background of soft warm colors.

Lovers of cool colors can create a dramatic design with dazzling whiteness and blue-gray.

You can competently combine several colors in one room. Milk, beige, gray and deep blue are the perfect combination.
