Wood-like kitchens: types and choices
When decorating home interiors, there is nothing better than natural materials - they are environmentally friendly, durable, while looking invariably impressive and expensive. For some time, wood gave way to metal and glass, but in recent years, interest in original materials has increased again.
Unfortunately, wood is by no means a cheap material, so today we will talk about decorating kitchens under wood.
Types of kitchen sets
Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of options for kitchen furniture. The most popular are the following headset layouts:
- straight - this is furniture of the linear type, in this version all furniture modules are installed in one row to one of the walls;
- double row - in this case, the main structures are placed along parallel walls, the distance between them should be at least 80–95 cm;
- L or L-shaped layout - corner options involve the placement of kitchen modules along two perpendicularly located adjoining walls; the dining area in this case is located in the opposite corner, thereby freeing up the central area;
- U-shaped - such layouts are most often used in spacious rooms or in kitchens provided completely for the working area, while the dining room is located in the dining room or in the living room;
- insular - in this design, one of the modules is taken out to the center of the kitchen: a dining table, a sink, a stove, a work area or a recreation area; such options are optimal for spacious rooms with a footage of at least 15 square meters. m;
- peninsular - a bit like a U-shaped one, but in this case, an additional working area (peninsula) is installed on one side of the kitchen unit, usually the distance between it and the opposite side is about 1 meter.
Important! Each of the options under consideration looks harmoniously in a wood-like design, while the cabinets can be additionally decorated with glass or metal inserts.
Manufacturing materials
Of course, the best choice for any kitchen would be natural valuable wood species - it is environmentally friendly, practical, reliable and attractive. Unfortunately, the cost of solid wood furniture is high, so not every owner of premises can afford such a setting. In this case, furniture made of materials that imitate wood may be the way out.
MDF
MDF headsets are very popular - this is a natural material made of wood shavings. In the production process of such blocks, toxic substances are not used, which means that when surfaces are heated during cooking, hazardous components will not be released into the air, leading to a deterioration of the human condition. MDF looks stylish and has a texture that mimics wood as much as possible. This material is characterized by durability and can serve its owners for many years, retaining its original gloss and impeccable appearance.
Another advantage of MDF is ease of processing, such surfaces are often combined with glass and plastic, which allows you to create the most stylish and effective interiors. Furniture made of MDF is characterized by high temperature resistance. In addition, modern manufacturers produce headsets in a wide variety of colors - light, dark and brown.
Most often, the facades are varnished, which significantly extends the period of their operation.
Chipboard
The most budgetary option is considered to be particle board - chipboard. It is made from sawdust and shavings and held together with a binder, after which it is pressed. The resulting slabs are pasted over with decorative coatings, which give the facades a resemblance to wood. Commonly used are PVC film, veneer and plastic. The cheapest option is film, the other two options are slightly more expensive, but in any case, they all have an extremely short period of operation. flake off. Chipboard is susceptible to steam, heat and moisture, so the blocks located near the oven, hob and sink over time begin to warp, and the film -
Most often, chipboard kitchen sets are purchased for a summer residence, in a hostel or in any other temporary housing.
Plastic
Plastic is often used for the production of modern kitchens. As a rule, it is combined with MDF - the result is durable, beautiful and stylish designs. Modern panels are available in a variety of shades, so if you wish, you can always choose a material painted like wood. The advantages of plastic are obvious: the material is resistant to moisture, steam and minor mechanical damage, surfaces are easy to clean, does not absorb odors and grease, while retaining its aesthetic appearance for a long time.
Ceramic tile
When decorating a kitchen under a tree, floors, walls and ceilings are often decorated. For floor cladding, tiles are usually used - this is a practical material that has such undoubted advantages as hygro-resistance, easy cleaning, durability and wear resistance. For finishing the floor in the kitchen, tiles are usually used, the pattern of which completely repeats the relief and pattern of the wood, which after installation creates the illusion of a real wooden floor or parquet.
Cork
Cork is often used to decorate wood-like floors; such surfaces embody the idea of comfort, warmth and naturalness. Cork is a practical and beautiful material, besides, when walking, it springs pleasantly.
Laminate and linoleum
Laminate can be a good alternative to wood, and in conditions of limited budget, you can always cover the surface with linoleum of the appropriate color - such a coating is durable, practical, easy to clean and highly resistant to wear.
Plastic panels
You can use plastic panels to decorate the walls. When choosing suitable materials, preference it is better to give products with high light, moisture and heat resistance.
Wallpaper
In conditions of limited budget, you can use wallpaper, in this case it is preferable to take a washable one. However, keep in mind that even they lose their decorative appearance under the influence of water and steam, therefore for wall decoration in the work area, it is still better to use panels or tiles.
Wood-like ceiling
The ceiling lined with wood looks quite impressive. Most often, stretch ceilings are used, which are produced in a wide variety of textures and colors.
Color spectrum
Wood-imitating headsets are produced in a wide variety of color shades that match the natural ones as closely as possible.
- White kitchen modules look very stylish, which resemble the texture of bleached oak. Headsets with light fronts and matching countertops will look harmonious in small spaces.
- A good tandem with such furniture is made up of walls, floor and ceiling, decorated in light shades. - in this case, they should be several shades lighter than the furniture. This solution allows you to visually expand the boundaries of the room, fill it with light and a sense of space.
- Light "antique" headsets look very original in the interiors. Such options are ideally combined with vintage and shabby chic design trends - artificially aged MDF facades of white or light shades can become a real highlight of the kitchen decor.
- But for decorating a kitchen in a modern style it is better to stop at imitation of dark wood, such headsets look especially impressive against the background of gray, graphite, beige and brown walls. An exceptionally noble and expensive impression is made by kitchens with colors in walnut, oak, wenge or made in chocolate shades.
- If you are a supporter of high-tech, you should take a closer look at ebony furniture blocks. These colors stylishly complement the glass and chrome surfaces. However, dark wood looks harmoniously in a classic style - in this case, it must be decorated with carved panels and glass.
- When decorating the rustic style, they usually use the imitation of rough wood. with maximum preservation of its natural shade. Golden and sandy beige tones of furniture, floor, ceiling and walls make the space especially cozy and warm.
An excellent background for such headsets will be a milky, creamy or beige shade, and a stone countertop will complement the design concept.
How to choose?
Choosing a kitchen unit is not an easy task. Furniture should not only be beautiful, but also functional. Typically, headsets are sold in a wide variety of configurations, the choice of which may depend on the following factors:
- style - for example, in classic interiors, the use of column cabinets is not allowed;
- relevance of the model - every season brings something new to kitchen designs; so, in the days of our mothers, buffets were popular, today such a module in modern apartments is almost impossible to see;
- step parameter - this definition means the size of the module of the complex, and the smaller it is, the better.
It is important to consider the number of items that can fit in the kitchen, it is worth noting several determining factors in this case.
- The footage of the kitchen and the possibility of its redevelopment. For example, you should find out whether it is possible to transfer the sink or countertop to the window, whether it is permissible to combine the kitchen with the living room, whether there is space for a bar counter and other technical subtleties.
- Household appliances used - Determine in advance which equipment you need and which one you can do without. It is important to decide in advance on the location of the stove, sink and oven; you can install furniture blocks only after purchasing and installing kitchen appliances.
- The configuration of the room is also important., the presence of blocks, protruding niches, a gas water heater, a boiler and other non-standard parts.
Use in different styles
Wood-like kitchens always create a feeling of warmth and real family comfort in the room. The use of such modules is relevant in a variety of decors.
- Country - this is a style that is perfectly combined with wood textures, and there are no restrictions on the color scheme here. In a country-style kitchen, both imitation of light wood species (ash or pine) and rich dark colors will look good.
It is known that there cannot be too much wood in this style, since simplicity has always been at the head of this stylistic direction, completely eliminating any pomp and excesses.
- Provence... This style is preferred by lovers of sophisticated and sophisticated trends. Traditionally, light-colored materials are used to decorate the kitchen, and furniture fittings are painted in any calm colors (lavender, mint, turquoise or blue). Furniture sets must be complemented by decorative elements, curtains, vases with flowers, paintings and other details that stand out from the general color scheme look relevant.
- Rustic - this is one of the most extravagant styles, which is ideal for people who prefer fashionable and non-trivial ideas in decor. The creation of such an interior in the kitchen is impossible without the use of wood surfaces or their imitation, it is desirable that it be the texture of untreated rough wood, reminiscent of a village of the last century.
Beams from a bar and columns will become an effective addition to the furniture set.
- High tech. Oddly enough, this style can also be decorated with wood surfaces. In this case, glossy surfaces are relevant, which give the kitchen a light futuristic touch.
- Modern suitable for all owners of premises who cannot make a choice between wood and metal, the use of combinations of these materials will be optimal. It is this tandem that is the leitmotif of modern Art Nouveau, which will certainly not leave indifferent lovers of similar decors (loft and minimalism).
- Vintage... Retrostyle is usually generously "flavored" with an abundance of wooden surfaces, and the color of the kitchen can be either natural or tends to the avant-garde (red, black, white and other bold shades).
Competent use of the texture of natural wood will allow you to implement any design solutions for the interior of the kitchen.
As a rule, it is difficult to clearly define the direction of the decor, and it is useless - any excessive correctness is always considered bad manners, while the combination of incongruous elements is invariably considered a sign of good taste and sense of style.
Successful examples
Classics are always relevant. People have used wood to create headsets for several centuries, and today wood grain kitchens have not lost their relevance.
But for those who do not like monotonous decors, you can combine shades of wood in one space, for example, make the top light and the bottom dark.
Brown furniture is harmoniously combined with stylish black metal accessories, classic style hoods and stylized household appliances.
Do not be afraid to combine the most unusual options under a tree, combine them with other materials - plastic, glass, stone or metal. This is the only way you can achieve the individual style of your interior.
