Kitchens with photo printing: features and interesting options
Today, there are many ways to radically transform the design of a kitchen without making repairs or buying expensive headsets. One of these methods is photo printing. Let's take a closer look at what it is. How to use it correctly in the interior of kitchens?
Peculiarities
Photo printing allows you to change the appearance of facades, making them more modern and interesting. In this case, you can choose either a ready-made image, or bring your own photo or a picture you like from the Internet. The scope for creativity is huge here. When the owner decides on the design, experts adjust the image to the correct size, and then apply it to the surfaces of the facades. After that, the drawing is covered with a special varnish.
It is no secret that a variety of materials are used to make furniture. The same can be said about countertops, wall panels, an apron, and a refrigerator.
Today, photo printing can be applied to natural wood, glass, MDF and chipboard, acrylic - in general, absolutely any material will do.
In addition, the surface does not matter either - it can be either smooth or rough, as well as grooved. You can “paint” the furniture during the assembly stage or after it. Modern photo printing has many advantages:
- adequate prices;
- speed of drawing;
- wear resistance;
- the ability to choose any image;
- the ability to completely transform the appearance of surfaces.
There is only one drawback here - if a film application technology is chosen, then the image may begin to peel off after a while.
Application technology
At the moment, there are two methods of applying photo printing: polymer film and ultraviolet printing.
Polymer film
This film is also called self-adhesive. To bring the drawing to life, the image is applied to a film, and then the product is glued to the selected surfaces. In doing so, it is important to avoid creases and air bubbles.
This method of photo printing is best used for matte and smooth wooden surfaces; on glass and mirror, the film deteriorates much faster.
Of the advantages of self-adhesive films, it can be noted that their range is simply huge, and there is also the possibility of applying even personal photos, drawings and sketches. The film is glued very quickly. The disadvantage lies in its fragility - the drawing will have to be updated quite often. Although this is not a bad thing, over time, even the most beautiful images can get bored.
UV printing
Here, the application is carried out immediately at home. The image is transferred to the surface using a printer, then it is well dried and varnished. This technique has several nice advantages:
- can be applied with equal success to all types of surfaces;
- very durable work;
- lends itself well to care and does not exfoliate;
- absolutely safe for health.
As for the shortcomings, it should be noted that such photo printing is more expensive than film. In addition, it is almost impossible to apply it correctly on corner fittings.
Selecting a pattern
The choice of a picture for photo printing is a very responsible business, because you have to deal with an image every day. Therefore, it cannot cause irritation and negative feelings. If you do not know what to choose, proceed from the style direction of the kitchen. Let's see what can be applied in different cases.
- Flowers. For classic interiors it is best to choose the Orchid set. These delicate large flowers will perfectly emphasize the style of the kitchen. Country and Provence images of lavender, wildflowers, lilacs are suitable. Those who love Japanese minimalism will surely love the Sakura set.
- Food and drinks. Nothing whets your appetite like the image of all sorts of goodies. Photo prints under the names "Apple", "Orange", "Cherry" will look great in modern designs. These fruits will add freshness to the room, especially if you choose drawings where they are depicted with water droplets. For drink lovers, we can recommend such a set as "Coffee", and it can be either individual grains or cups and glasses with a hot drink. Images of various colorful cocktails are also very popular.
- Animal world. Those who like animals can always depict them in their kitchen. It is not recommended to use large animals such as tigers, elephants, lions, this solution is more suitable for living rooms and bedrooms. In the kitchens, beautiful fish, ladybugs, colored birds will be appropriate. Photo printing "Butterflies" will be an absolutely safe option. Such a pattern will suit both modern and classic interior trends.
- Macro photography. Small objects that appear in all their glory are the prerogative of minimalist styles. Pick a drawing to your taste: ice cubes, bugs, fire, various insects, water drops, flower petals and much more today designers are ready to offer.
- Abstraction. Experts advise choosing abstract drawings carefully. Although this theme is famous for its unobtrusiveness, however, too clear or broken lines can cause irritation. Order abstractions with smooth, light shapes, and also not too bright.
- Landscapes. Natural landscapes always have a pacifying effect on the human psyche. They are suitable for almost all styles, with the exception of loft and hi-tech. For the kitchen, you can choose calm rural panoramas, images of a quiet sea or ocean, forests and mountains.But it is better not to select drawings with a stormy sea, such pictures can disturb if you constantly look at them.
- Urban motives. Photo printing with images of large and famous cities is the best solution for all modern trends. Such sets as "London", "Paris", "New York" look good. If you want to portray the city in a classic kitchen, then choose antique streets and buildings from ancient times.
Placement methods
When deciding how to place your printed furniture, you need to take into account the stylistic orientation of the kitchen, as well as its dimensions.
- If the kitchen is small, you should not choose large drawings. They will further reduce the space, hide it. Here, the best option would be the choice of discreet, small drawings, and you can also order repeating images. In addition, in small kitchens, experts often advise applying photo prints only to the upper cabinets.
- In rooms located on the dark side, you need to choose bright images, and vice versa - in too light kitchens, you should give preference to neutral pastel or white tones. Moreover, if the room is large, then the drawing can be stretched over the entire area of the upper and lower cabinets. You can also connect a refrigerator and walls to this composition.
- If you have a modular headset, then you need to apply photo printing and think over its placement after the headset is installed, and you can appreciate it. Otherwise, the result may not satisfy you.
Correct care
While photo prints are fairly durable and withstands moisture and hot air well, they need care to last longer. It is important to protect the drawing from mechanical damage, since scratches and bumps will be clearly visible. Besides, do not use aggressive chemicals for cleaning - they can contribute to distortion and rapid fading of the picture.
To clean the film image and remove grease and water stains, it is enough to wipe it with a damp sponge or cloth. If the drawing is applied using ultraviolet direct printing, then it can be washed with mild detergents, such images are not afraid of high humidity. If the surface is not even, but grooved, you will have to devote more time to care.
In no case should you try to scrape off the adhering fat with a knife or fork, such surfaces are washed with hard foam sponges.
Photo printing on kitchen sets, countertops and walls can become a real work of art and give furniture a second life, but only if the drawing is chosen correctly and tastefully. Bright, beautiful images will awaken appetite in the hosts and their guests, and the kitchen area will acquire uniqueness. The most important point is that no one else will have such a kitchen, especially if you choose your own drawing, and not a ready-made one.
