Round tables for the kitchen have not lost their popularity for many years. Their relevance is explained by the perfection of the form, ease of use and harmony of appearance.

Peculiarities

Choosing furniture for the kitchen is a rather difficult undertaking and requires careful selection of the shape of the table in accordance with the design of the room. Round models in such cases are an absolutely safe option, as they suit all interior styles without exception.

It will only be necessary to choose the material of manufacture and the presence of certain design elements inherent in this direction.

For example, for classic or retro, it will be carved wooden legs, for modern and minimalism - strict laconic forms made in glass, stone and metal. And for progressive hi-tech - models of bright contrasting colors with glossy surfaces.

A distinctive feature of round tables is the ability to install them in a room of any size, with the exception of very tiny kitchens.

And if in a spacious dining room it will be a large dining table, then in a small room there will be a small neat model with a transparent table top and chrome legs.

Advantages and disadvantages

Round kitchen tables have been in trend for a long time, and judging by the latest trends in kitchen fashion, the interest of designers and consumers in them is only growing. This is due to a number of important features and indisputable advantages of this seemingly unpretentious piece of furniture.

  • The round shape of the table top creates a special atmosphere of comfort and trust - It is not for nothing that important negotiations are always held at a round table. Placing the seated people facing each other puts everyone in the same conditions and promotes greater openness and communication. The same applies to the home table: all family members can see and hear each other well and be in close contact.
  • Due to the lack of corners, round tables are absolutely safe, which is especially important for families with young children.
  • Many round patterns have a folding design, which allows, if necessary, to create a full-fledged festive table and seat all the guests at it.
  • Round shapes help to dilute the ambiance in rooms with multiple angles, edges, clear lines and make it more harmonious.
  • Round models promote sustainable use non-standard room shapes and "reconcile" incompatible interior elements with each other. As an example, we can consider kitchens of trapezoidal and other irregular shapes, in which round tables look very harmonious.

There are not so many downsides to round kitchen tables. These include some instability one-legged models, especially in the case of a too small diameter of the support platform, as well as the inability to install the table close to the wall and docking of two separate models to receive a large number of guests.

In addition, the large tabletop sometimes does not allow reaching the dishes in the center of the table, so it is advisable to take this moment into account when serving.

Materials (edit)

For the manufacture of round kitchen tables, materials such as wood, chipboard, MDF, glass, metal, natural and artificial stone, polymer compounds.

Wood

Round tables are made from solid hardwood: ash, oak, wenge or beech. Wooden models fit perfectly into classic and Provencal interiors, as well as in eco, ethno and country. The advantages of wood products are their solid and rich appearance, absolute environmental friendliness of the material and a long service life. The disadvantages include too much weight and high cost.

In addition, wooden models should not be placed near open flames and heating appliances. Otherwise, the wood may ignite or begin to dry out.

It is also necessary to control the humidity in the room. And although wooden models are in most cases covered with moisture-resistant compounds, too high humidity is harmful to the wood.

Glass

Glass models represent the largest group of round kitchen tables and are in high demand among consumers. This material is the best option for kitchen tables: it does not absorb food odors and is highly resistant to humidity and high temperatures. Moreover, glass models look very stylish and aesthetically pleasing.

Glass for countertops is often painted in different colors, photoprinted or sandblasted. This contributes to a wide variety of assortment, so choosing the right model for the color and interior design is not difficult.

Another advantage of glass tables is their lightness and transparency: products do not clutter up the space and look very aesthetically pleasing.

However, along with the obvious advantages, glass countertops still have disadvantages. These include the need for careful carecaused by the fact that prints of greasy fingers and traces from dishes on the glass are clearly visible. In addition, glass products have a fairly great weight and may be damaged if handled carelessly. And although only thick tempered glass is used for the manufacture of tables, it does not matter furrows, chips, gouges and scratches are very common.

Chipboard

This material is made from wood chips by hot pressing, after which it is laminated. Non-mineral components and synthetic additives act as a binder.

Chipboard tables are the most budgetary option for kitchen furniture and, when creating optimal temperature and humidity conditions in the room, they can last for quite a long time.

The advantage of chipboard tables is a wide variety of colors and textures with imitation of the pattern of wood fibers of noble species. The disadvantages include the low wear resistance of the decorative layer, the fear of high humidity, the release of formaldehyde vapors and the rapid loosening of fasteners and accessories in the loose structure of the material.

MDF

Translated from English (Medium Density Fibreboard), MDF means medium-hard fiber board, which is made by dry pressing of wood waste (shavings) under the influence of high pressure and temperature. MDF production is carried out using melamine-modified urea resins. As a result, it is possible to achieve low formaldehyde emissions, comparable to those of natural wood.

Such models are much superior to laminated chipboard products in terms of strength and durability, and in terms of their performance they can be compared with wooden tables.

A natural stone

Tables made of this material are very beautiful and original, however, they are quite heavy. The stone is very sensitive to acids, and some types of minerals, for example, marble, are able to absorb grease and dirt into their surface. The advantages of tables made of natural stone are high wear resistance, long service life and resistance to high humidity. The disadvantages, in addition to weight, include the cold surface and the high cost of the models.

Fake diamond

In terms of decorative properties, this material is not much inferior to natural stone. Products made from it are distinguished by low cost, practicality and reliability of the design. There were no particular drawbacks in the artificial material, and consumers in most cases are quite satisfied with the choice made.

The only caveat: on such countertops, it is not recommended to cut food without using a cutting board, as well as put hot pans and pots on them.

Verzalit

Outwardly, this material is not much different from chipboard, it is made from compressed wood flour of expensive species with the use of polymer resins. The composition of the material includes special additives that bring its performance closer to an artificial stone. Wersalite tables are absolutely immune to UV rays, high humidity and mechanical stress.

With proper care and optimal room conditions, such a tabletop can last over 15 years.

Metal

Metal countertops are not so common on sale and are purchased from private craftsmen lovers of hi-tech, metallic and other extravagant styles... In other interiors, such models look, to put it mildly, inappropriate, therefore they are not popular with lovers of traditional kitchens. The advantages of metal worktops are a long service life and high wear resistance., and the disadvantages include a lot of weight and a feeling of discomfort from a surface that is too cold or heated in heat.

Plastic

Polymer models look a little rustic and are more often purchased as kitchen tables for summer cottages. The advantages of plastic products are low cost and wide range of colors. The disadvantages include the rapid appearance of scratches during careless work with a knife and the need to use hot coasters.

In addition, bright colors fade over time, and the table becomes faded and ugly.

Views

Round kitchen tables are classified according to two criteria: number of supports and type of construction.

According to the first criterion, one-, three- and four-legged models are distinguished. A 4-legged kitchen table is standard for the dining area. The advantages of such models are their stability and long service life. They fit perfectly into any décor and are available on the market in a wide variety of materials and designs.

So, for a classic style, a round table made of natural wood with 4 carved legs, which can be straight or curved, would be an ideal option. While a glass or stone model with straight chrome legs is perfect for a modern interior.

Three-legged tables are no less popular. They are quite stable too and are more suitable for modern styles.

However, the most convenient for use are one-legged specimens, which can be located behind from either side.

Models on one leg can be made of various materials, which allows you to choose them for any interior. The table leg is firmly attached to the table top and has a stable round or square platform that acts as a counterweight and holds the table well.

The next classification criterion is the type of construction. On this basis, tables are subdivided into sliding and static. The first ones include 3 elements, one of which is located under the table top. In order to unfold the table, the two semicircular halves are pushed apart to the sides until they stop and the third element is placed between them.

Non-dismountable tables have a one-piece table top and cannot be folded out.

Dimensions (edit)

Round tables for the kitchen are available in a huge variety of sizes, which allows them to be installed in large and small kitchens. The most popular are models with a countertop diameter of 80 cm, allowing a family of 4 people to comfortably settle down. For small kitchens, there are very miniature models measuring 60-70 cm, designed for one or two people.

Tables with a diameter of 90 to 100 cm can easily accommodate five, 120-centimeter items - six, and specimens with a 130 cm countertop size - eight people. If you need to freely seat 9-10 people, then you cannot do without a model with a diameter of 150 cm.

However, dishes on such a large countertop should be placed as close to the eaters as possible, since reaching the center of the table will be very inconvenient.

Color solution

Round tables come in a variety of colors and shades, and the choice of the right one depends entirely on the interior of the room and the personal preferences of the owner. So, for art deco, a milky or white table is suitable, for an English interior - a model in dark shades, and for country or Provence - a product in light yellow or light brown tones of natural wood.

Minimalism will be perfectly decorated with black or white options, as well as models in metallic colors. If the room is decorated in bright colors, for example, in white and orange, then the table should be selected in one of these colors.

In modern interiors, you can use the technique of contrast and buy a light table for a dark kitchen set. In general, without reference to the color of the interior, you can only buy a table made of expensive natural wood. Such models have a natural shade and are suitable for almost all styles. It is advisable to select all other products very carefully, taking into account the color of tiles, flooring and other pieces of furniture.

How to choose?

When choosing a round table, you need to be guided by the size of the kitchen. If its area exceeds 9 square meters, and the room itself has a square shape, then a model with a round tabletop can be taken without hesitation, while for owners of miniature kitchens such a purchase can turn into a disappointment. This is especially true for narrow spaces, typical for most of the "Khrushchev".

In such rooms, only rectangular models should be purchased, since tables with a round table top will hide an already small space.

The same applies to the choice of sliding models. Before buying, you need to measure the room and relate it to the dimensions of the unfolded table. If there is no 80 cm of free space around the tabletop, then buying a round model will be impractical, since guests will not be able to freely sit around the table.

Where to put?

When choosing a place for a table a number of simple rules must be followed.

  • Do not place it near the work area, as well as near heaters and at the window. This is due to the fact that the person sitting next to them will experience discomfort.
  • Place the table next to the sofa - not a good idea either. The distance from the stool to the table top should be at least 25-30 cm, and to the wall or other pieces of furniture - at least 50-60 cm. Thus, the free area around the table should be from 80 to 90 cm on all sides. Otherwise, it will be uncomfortable to sit behind him.
  • Unlike rectangular tables, models with rounded edges are not placed in a corner, and the best place for them is in the center of the kitchen. Therefore, owners of small rooms should not purchase a round model and squeeze it into any available space, since with such an arrangement the very essence and purpose of the round table is lost.
