Levitating tables have increasingly become of interest to those who want to make an unusual design in the room. But it is worth learning in more detail what these structures are and what types of tables there are.

What it is?

The levitating (floating in space) table is a round table top suspended by ropes mounted on rods. This type of connection is called "tensegrity", that is, this system assumes a complete absence of contact between the rods. Tension, holding is carried out due to cables that do not allow the table top to shift to the side, fly off at the slightest movement.

In general, a suspension module system replaces a spring-loaded system. It is no less effective in terms of the permissible load.

Flying table with a box and a candlestick (product code - F. 0061). The set includes the table itself and a pair of anti-gravity modules. The product is delivered in an aluminum case - it ensures safe transportation. The wooden box makes it possible to control the movement of the table without touching its table top. The size of the surface is 45x33 cm. When assembled and ready for use, the height of the table top will not exceed 84 cm. Without additional accessories, the product weighs only 425 g. The delivery set also includes an oilcloth tablecloth, a candle and a box. Suitable, for example, for demonstrating tricks. Levitating table based on plastic structures (code F. 4129) - a structure that can be assembled and disassembled in just a minute. Suitable for small spaces with very limited living space. The set includes a small cloth tablecloth and a carrying case. Disassembled, the product weighs no more than a kilogram. With a suitcase, its weight is 2.5 kg.

Finally, an economical version of the levitating table - the model is assembled and ready-made with a weight of only 340 g. The table top is 3x3 dm, the table leg is only 4 cm in diameter. This model (product code F. 0306) is made to order. The set includes packaging for transportation, a small tablecloth.

For all models, you can purchase or sew on your own a tablecloth of a suitable size. It is recommended to use lightweight fabric that does not cling to the edges of the countertop.

How to make a table on chains without support?

Most homemade models use ropes, laces, twine, etc. instead of chains. Replacing them with chain pieces is not difficult - for the chain, go to the nearest hardware store or to the local market, where they sell accessories and parts for any thing, device or item. This refers to the usual steel chain made of unhardened steel, which is used to tie the yard dogs to the booth.

To assemble the suspended structure, use, in addition to the chains, a professional pipe of the order of 25x25 mm, with a wall thickness of no more than 2 mm. The dimensions of such a hand-made table may coincide with the dimensions of an ordinary coffee table, for example, with a table top of 50x80 cm.The height is standard - 80-90 cm.The tabletop is made of a simple 20-25 mm solid board or plywood. The upper and lower metal sides are L-shaped structures, while the lower parts are welded to a C-shaped frame lying on the floor or on the ground, and the upper ones are attached to the tabletop using the same frame. Be sure to check the rectangularity of all fasteners with a square. In total, 6 sections of the chain will be required: two short ones hang the upper part of the frame with a tabletop, and four long ones - side ones, which do not allow the structure to move from its working dimensions. The dimensions of the frame are adjusted to fit the table top.

This design is more suitable for everyday use with serious pressure weight than a staged model based on magnets.

Stages of creating a table on ropes

If the "chain" model seemed too bulky to carry, then use the simplest construction on ropes (thin ropes). The step-by-step instructions for making a table on ropes that levitate no worse above the ground than a model with chains are as follows:

having prepared your own or finding a ready-made drawing, take care of the presence of a countertop 30 cm in diameter, pine boards with dimensions of 1.8x3x200 cm, a cable with a braid with a thickness of at least 2 mm, hooks with screws (resemble suspensions for chandeliers), office paper clips, PVA glue;

set the corners using a protractor;

mark and saw the board, after checking the drawing, a drawing in the original scale of the table being made is ideal - it is easier to navigate by it;

connect the parts with glue, pressing them with clamps after applying the adhesive;

after waiting for the glue to dry, mark and drill the holes for the dowels, the dowels themselves with a diameter of 8 mm can be cut from a round stick resembling a rounded and calibrated log in miniature;

glue the dowels with the same glue;

putty the product using a compound made from glue and the putty formed during the sawing of pieces of wood, this is necessary to smooth out possible defects formed during sawing;

cover the product with varnish or technical linseed oil;

attach the legs using the same dowels, this will eliminate the bolts;

screw the hooks into the legs in the places where the rope is attached, observe symmetry - the slightest distortion, and the table will be pulled to the side, which will ruin its appearance, also attach the hooks to the table top;

mark and cut the rope-rope into multiple segments, to create the greatest hovering effect, use a rope with a transparent braid;

to wind the loops at the ends of the cables, use a wire made of paper clips, it is not difficult to unbend and straighten the paper clips, outwardly the loop resembles a small fishing knot with a winding;
