A kitchen is a room where the average family spends a lot of time, because it is not only a place for cooking and eating, but also the “heart” of the house, where family members meet, talk about the joys and sorrows of the day, and greet the morning with a cup of coffee or tea. Of course, it is customary to select furniture for the kitchen very carefully. It should be durable, comfortable, beautiful and easy to care for.

This applies to all pieces of furniture: tables, headsets and, of course, chairs. Kitchen chairs have a good "load": people sit on them, often (especially if there are children in the family) they spill or spill something, sometimes they get up to get what they need from the upper shelves.

Nevertheless, few housewives will be satisfied with just the strength and comfort of the chairs. They are in constant use, so they should be pleasing to the eye, be either unusual, or correspond to the latest fashion trends. In general, ordinary wooden or plastic chairs for the kitchen are the last century.

Today, designers offer a huge number of options where everyone can choose the one that suits them. You should be guided by your own taste, the needs of the family, as well as the style of the room.

How to choose?

Upholstered chairs are much more comfortable, but their seats are pressed through and deformed pretty soon, which means they will need to be replaced. Rigid chairs are more durable, less prone to deformation, therefore, they will last longer. Families with children are advised to opt for products with easy-to-clean upholstery.

The choice should also be based on the size of the kitchen. For a large room, standard chairs in a set are suitable: four or six pieces (depending on the number of family members). As for small kitchens, folding copies or those that can be stacked one on top of the other will be the best option for them. They are perfectly stored on the loggia.

Models with the ability to adjust the height of both the seat and backrest are the ideal choice for children. As they grow, you can raise the chair. What families with children, especially small children, should avoid is chairs equipped with wheels. They can cause injury.

If your kitchen is a place where it is customary to drink tea for a long time, to have a leisurely conversation, take care that the seats are equipped with armrests. If all family members are busy, drink a cup of coffee in the morning and run away for the whole day, you do not need such elements.

It is advisable that your chairs are not too narrow, otherwise friends and relatives who are overweight may experience discomfort when they come to visit you.

Types of chairs

There are quite a few options from which to choose. Kitchen seats include:

  • classic chairs;
  • bar;
  • stools (without backrest);
  • armchairs;
  • ottomans.

If your kitchen has a bar, it is logical to purchase several chairs or stools of the same name for it. Do you have a large area? Then stop the choice on armchairs: wicker or upholstered with soft, pleasant to the touch fabric. Wicker furniture also looks great in the summer kitchen of a country house.

If you live in an apartment with small spaces, a stool or a classic chair is a great choice, because they can be completely pushed under the table, thereby saving space. You should not think that designer chairs for the kitchen are a luxury available to owners of spacious apartments. On the contrary, currents such as minimalism and hi-tech, provide for the manufacture of furniture that does not have anything superfluous and does not take up much space.

If you want poufs in your kitchen, you should consider their height. They can be a little small next to a standard table. In this case, they should be made according to an individual design.

Material selection

What your chairs will be made of depends primarily on the overall style of the kitchen. If you like lightweight and functional plastic, wooden classic chairs will not create a harmonious ensemble with it. But if you adhere to the classics in everything, including in the home environment, then feel free to choose wood as the material for making your furniture. The classics should not be considered boring - interesting solutions can be found in it.

Deliberately roughly painted wooden furniture (for example, white) will decorate a kitchen designed in style Provence or Scandinavian. And the model, upholstered in velor, will fit perfectly into the interiorp in English or "Baroque" style. Note that plastic is much lighter than wood. Metal feet can weigh slightly on plastic furniture. Wicker chairs are slightly heavier, but wood furniture is the most massive.

Selection details

Before purchasing chairs for the kitchen, it is recommended to perform certain actions.

  • Check how strong their legs are. To do this, you need to sit on a chair. The legs should maintain the position they originally had.
  • The legs of metal chairs are most often cast. Their thickness should be significant so as not to deform under the weight of a person sitting on a chair.
  • The smaller the kitchen, the better transparent chairs look in it. They make space easier.
  • Rattan chairs are a compromise between heavy wood and lightweight plastic. If you do not want to purchase heavy wooden furniture, while not wanting to use plastic, pay attention to this natural and light material.
  • The optimal seat depth is 40–45 cm, and the distance from the edge of the chair to the place where the leg bends at the knee joint is 2–8 cm.

Stylish solutions

Despite the fact that white chairs are considered classics of the "kitchen" genre, this does not mean that they cannot be truly original. For example, you can put chairs around the kitchen table made of the same material and color, but with different designs. It will look very fresh and unbeatable. Due to the fact that all chairs are monochromatic, the appearance of completeness remains.

Metal models can be no less stylish - if they are not solid, but wicker. Firstly, they are much lighter, and secondly, more maneuverable. In order to make it more comfortable to sit, you can supplement them with decorative pillows. Also beautiful are the forged backs with original twisted details. Seats decorated in eco-leather (easy-to-clean fabric) are perfect for these models.

If all family members have very different dimensions (height, weight), then it makes sense to order designer chairs in the same style, but in different sizes. Then everyone will have their own personal seat.

If the kitchen is designed in the "country" or "Provence" style, it requires textile decoration with one fabric: curtains, tablecloth, towels. You can sew covers on chairs from the same fabric, they will be a good addition to the overall style solution.

If you are an adherent of pop art, it is a good idea to buy or order the same model of chairs in different colors, preferably bright... Such a set will be perfectly combined with the corresponding wall decoration in the same colors. A similar solution will effectively complement the avant-garde kitchen.

Modern models of kitchen furniture imply lightness and functionality. Heavy and non-maneuverable objects are yesterday. Interiors in such fashionable styles as minimalism, loft, Scandinavian are designed to contain only the necessary items that have such a property as multifunctionality.

No less popular is transforming furniture, which can take various forms depending on what the owner needs.
