Thread curtains are a fashionable trend that will bring lightness and originality to the kitchen space. Due to the peculiarities of their appearance, such curtains do not hide the space, do not clutter it up, and therefore are suitable not only for decorating a window opening, but also for zoning.

Peculiarities

Thread curtains are textiles in the form of narrow (up to 2 cm wide) patches, threads or spirals. They are made of natural or synthetic materials and can be decorated with beads, fringes and other decorative elements. Another name for such curtains is muslin.

Tulle from threads can be considered its homeland in the countries of the East. Indeed, this detail will instantly add notes of oriental mystery and romance to the interior. However, muslin will be appropriate in any style, the main thing is to choose the right design.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantage of curtain threads is their versatility. They can be used to decorate a window or doorway, and will also fit into almost any interior, from classic to modern. Thanks to the variety of textile colors, it can both harmoniously fit into the kitchen and become its accent detail.

Besides, muslin can be used to divide space, for example: for separating the dining room from the kitchen or zoning in a studio apartment. Such a thread "partition", firstly, will not take up much space, and secondly, it will turn out to be quite budgetary.

Unlike the usual fabric curtains, the filament curtain does not eat up the inner space of the window. Visually, they make the kitchen more spacious and airy.Moreover, thanks to the elongated verticals, the effect of high ceilings is created, it is possible to visually move the room apart. This is especially valuable in small dwellings.

If we compare muslin with roller models or blinds, then the latter do not look harmoniously in every interior and do not always allow creating a cozy space. However, if desired, the threads can be easily combined with other types of curtains.

It is worth noting the higher indicators of light transmission when using curtain threads. On a hot sunny day, they will diffuse light, preventing excessive heating of the room.

With a number of advantages, thread curtains are fixed quite easily. They are attached in the same way as fabric counterparts. Moreover, it will be easier to create a muslin than a textile option that has numerous draperies and lambrequins. It is very simple to adjust the muslin lengthwise - you do not need the services of a seamstress, because the threads of the required length can be cut off with scissors yourself.

Like any item, cotton curtains have "disadvantages". First of all, this is transillumination in the dark with the lights on. Residents of the first floors are better off combining curtains-threads with other types, for example: roller blinds or blinds. In this case, it will be possible to protect the home from prying eyes from the street.

When buying, you should pay attention to the presence of decorative elements. If there are any, then, most likely, the curtains are not recommended to be machine washed. Even if they are not there, it is better to clean the threads by hand or use the delicate automatic mode. This will prevent the threads from tangling.

Despite its versatility, it is not possible to hang thread curtains in every home. Most likely, they will not serve for long in families with small children or pets. The temptation is too great to start braiding threads in braids, or to hunt, ride them. It can also be uncomfortable muslin if kitchen cabinets are located next to it: the handles will constantly cling to the threads.

Materials (edit)

The whole variety of curtains-threads can be reduced to 2 types: from natural and artificial materials.

Depending on the raw materials used and the implementation features, several varieties of products are distinguished, which allow you to decorate the kitchen space in an original way.

Kiseya

The concept of "muslin" can be used in a broader and narrower sense. We have already met the first meaning - this is how all types of curtains-threads stand. But there is also a narrower interpretation of the term - this is a translucent fabric that is denser in the upper part (it’s easier to fasten the cornice) with interwoven threads and beads. Kisei can be one-color or two-color, as well as rainbow. Lurex products have a characteristic shine.

With beads

New items of such curtains - beads are located on the threads, and they can be worn both orderly and chaotically. This gives the impression that the curtains are composed of vertically arranged beads.

Made of solid materials

By "hard" materials we mean wire, fishing line, thin wooden elements, as well as metal, dense fabrics, plastic. Most often, these products are used for zoning a room.

Rope

They are all the same curtains, but the threads are woven into ropes. Variants with beads can be woven in a similar way.

Design options

Depending on the color of the curtain-thread there are:

  • one-color (painted in one color, the palette includes up to 60 shades);
  • multicolor or iridescent (includes several shades, combined according to the principle of smoothness or contrast).

In addition, it is worth highlighting the decorative options, that is, decorated with beads, sequins, fringes, etc.

The design of curtain threads can be varied, they should always be selected taking into account the style of the interior, its dimensions, and colors. In a classic kitchen with wooden textures, white muslin looks harmoniously.It can be complemented with fabric curtains that match the tone of the main kitchen furniture.

In addition, multilayer threads of calm pastel shades look more attractive in a classic interior. Colored hooks can be used as a bright accessory.

If the kitchen is made in the spirit of minimalism, has a rather restrained color scheme, then a muslin of a bright shade will be an excellent solution. Even single-layer threads without drapery and decor are enough for the window area to attract attention, and a "zest" appears in the room.

For modern styles of minimalist direction, for loft and hi-tech, cotton curtains can be selected in combination with a translucent fabric curtain. The colors are restrained but contrasting. For example, in this case, the dark curtain literally got a new life and became harmonious thanks to the white threads.

The use of several threads of a similar shade, as well as the drapery with the use of holder rings, allows you to turn the window and curtains on it into a real work of art.

Thanks to cross-drapery, it is possible to divert attention from not too good areas of the interior or soften an overly strict room (for example, as in this case).

Kiseya can be used for zoning a warm balcony and kitchen. It is much more convenient and ergonomic than a door or fabric curtains.

You can hang the threads beautifully, and combining them with the usual fabric curtains. Such a tandem can be contrasting or more harmonious.

For rooms in an oriental style, it is better to choose multi-color or bright one-color options, it is permissible to use decorated counterparts. Bright and unusual (with sequins, fringes, feathers) thread curtains will be appropriate in eclectic, bohemian interiors. It is also worth hanging string beads here. This design is especially attractive on a sunny day: the light will be refracted through glass beads and reflected in many reflections.

How to choose?

For windows with or without narrow sills, it is recommended to choose long curtains-threads. If the windows have a wide window sill or small children or pets live in the house, it is logical to purchase muslin up to the window sill, or rather, a little shorter.

For northern or poorly lit rooms with natural light, it is better to acquire muslin of light shades. A dark color will make the kitchen look dark. On the windows facing the south or east side, you can, on the contrary, hang a curtain in darker shades to darken.

It is not recommended to purchase overly decorated models for a small room. If you still like the decor, choose smaller details. Otherwise, the curtain will look colorful and tasteless.

For a kitchen with a balcony door, you can choose a filament curtain in darker, non-marking colors. In this case, it is better to drape the threads so that the exit to the balcony is relatively free and does not require moving the curtains. This will help to avoid the rapid contamination of muslin, which will invariably happen if the balcony is actively used.

When buying, touch the threads: they should not have knots, varying degrees of tension, irregularities. Pull them slightly: they should not stretch too much, and when creased, keep creases.

Do not give preference to too thin threads: they will "bounce" and will not help create a relaxed, stylish interior. A line that is too thin is not the strongest material, so beaded curtains will not last long.

Natural silk or satin are of high cost, but they stretch quickly, so there is no talk of long-term operation either.

Synthetic polyester models are more practical than natural ones. They can be machine washed, they do not get tangled or wrinkled. Models with wooden elements, crystal or glass beads are capricious in their care - they require more thorough cleaning. Think about whether you are ready to spend time and energy on this.

In any case, it should be remembered that before washing, the threads are braided into 3-4 braids, after which they are washed on a delicate mode in the machine or by hand... While still wet, the curtains are hung on the window, after which the braids are immediately unraveled. If you follow this rule, the threads will not get tangled and dry perfectly straight, smooth.

When choosing muslin, you should focus on the stylistic and color features of the kitchen. You can play in contrast or match the color of the threads as closely as possible to the shades of the kitchen.

Finally, you can choose curtains to match other accents of the room, for example, by combining the color of muslin with the range of countertops, kitchen apron, upholstery of chairs. For orange, as well as for brown, the headset is usually chosen in white or pastel muslin. Light furniture, as well as furniture in wenge color, allow the use of rainbow or brighter muslin. Red, blue, green colors will advantageously emphasize a light kitchen.

How beautiful to hang?

Curtains can be used to decorate the interior both in a straightened and draped form. For to beautifully pick up the curtains or make an original composition, you can use the following accessories:

  • hairpins, which are standard rings with a metal or plastic rod;
  • pick-up brushes that are sewn from lace, braid and other materials;
  • decorative hangers, which are fixed to the wall, due to which the threads are picked up;
  • flower ball made of fabric materials;
  • colored ribbons or intertwined threads that can be used to tie a muslin.

Filament curtains can be attached to the cornice in several ways.

Wide tape

It is a tape, one side of which is sewn to thread curtains, and special hooks are inserted into the other. These hooks are then placed in special grooves on the cornice. It is convenient to form folds and shuttlecocks on the muslin fixed in this way, pulling the tape together.

Lining fabric as tape

This method involves cutting out a wide ribbon from the lining fabric. One part of it is sewn to the muslin so that there is a wide hole for the cornice rod. With this method of fastening, the muslin moves freely and easily along the cornice.

Velcro

This method allows you to quickly and without hassle remove and hang curtains-threads, however, with frequent gluing and peeling, the curtains will become fixed worse and worse. The essence of the method - one part of the Velcro tape is sewn to the muslin, the second - to the cornice or on the wall.

Eyelets

Rings are attached to the cornice bar, which are threaded into the perforations along the muslin border. This design looks stylish and modern, and the curtains "walk" along the cornice without delay.

Standard rings and clothespins

With this method, a transparent gossamer curtain tape is first sewn to the thread curtains, the loops are fixed on it. Then the curtain is strung on hooks already attached to the rings.
