Hair lamination with gelatin at home
Every woman knows that in order to be attractive, it is necessary to take care not only of the face and body, but also of the hair. Today salons offer many interesting procedures for the care of curls, and one of the most popular is hair lamination. It consists in applying special substances that restore natural shine and healthy appearance to the strands. After it, an invisible film appears for each hair, which protects it from negative factors and at the same time does not interfere with the flow of oxygen.
Not many people realize that you can do lamination yourself without leaving your home. At the same time, you will not have to buy expensive ingredients, since the classic composition for home lamination is based on ordinary gelatin. This is a storehouse of collagen, which is necessary to maintain youth and beauty not only of the hair, but of the entire body. The results from such a procedure will exceed all your expectations, the main thing is to observe the correct ratio of ingredients and follow the instructions.
Read about how often you need to laminate your hair at home and what formulation options exist in this article.
Peculiarities
During lamination, a special composition is distributed over the entire length of the hair, which envelops the core of each hair like an invisible film. As a result, the curls look healthier, more beautiful, easy to comb, and besides, they receive protection from the negative effects of the environment. Home lamination also copes with this task perfectly, but it costs several times cheaper. A bag of gelatin, which holds a tablespoon of powder, costs several rubles. Even taking into account the need for several procedures, the benefits are obvious.
In addition to natural collagen, gelatin contains protein, amino acids, dietary fiber, cellulose, vitamins and trace elements that allow even tired and damaged hair to come back to life. During the procedure, substances penetrate into the hair shaft and restore it along its entire length. Importantly, the film that appears on each hair does not prevent them from breathing.
By the way, in addition to synthetic components, ordinary gelatin is also included in expensive salon lamination products.
When applying the composition, the scalp and a couple of centimeters of hair at the roots are not processed. This is done because it is more difficult to wash off gelatin from the skin, and irritation from it is not excluded. Despite the fact that this product does not cause allergies, the astringents in its composition can cause uncomfortable sensations when in contact with the head.
After the procedure, the appearance of the hair improves in several ways at once:
- hair thickens and looks much more voluminous, so the procedure is especially liked by owners of thin and liquid curls;
- an invisible coating protects every hair from the harmful effects of external factors, which are especially relevant for cities with poor ecology: exhaust gases, smog and other emissions into the atmosphere cannot harm your hair;
- lamination makes curls smoother and more vibrant;
- the procedure does not allow the coloring pigment to be washed out, which means that you can enjoy the rich color obtained after coloring for a longer time.
Benefit and harm
Let's talk in more detail about the positive and negative properties of home lamination. Its advantages are the same as those of the salon procedure:
- protects against thermal damage, therefore it is recommended for use if you straighten your hair with an iron, curl it with a curling iron or dry it with a hairdryer;
- curls become more obedient and keep styling better;
- the hair is filled with useful substances, which is very important if it is damaged;
- fragility passes, split ends are sealed;
- rare thin curls look thicker and more voluminous.
It is believed that due to the formation of a thin film on the surface of each hair, they receive less oxygen, which leads to negative consequences. In fact, this opinion is not supported by anything. The gelatinous film allows air to pass through, there are no harmful effects from hair lamination at home, since all the ingredients of the homemade composition are of natural origin.
Acting according to the instructions, you can literally get a brilliant result without leaving your home.
Who is not recommended?
With all the advantages of this healing procedure, there are cases in which it should not be done, since it will not be beneficial or simply will not bring the desired results.
- An unpleasant consequence that can arise from home lamination is the increased oiliness of the hair. If your curls themselves have this property, then the procedure can enhance this effect. The dry type needs such nutrition much more.
- Very coarse oriental hair can behave unpredictably after home lamination. Sometimes the hair becomes even harder and more unruly.
- Too cut curls should be cleaned first. At the hairdresser's or on your own, you need to polish the surface to make them look more solid and healthier. Only then can home lamination be done.
- If you have just dyed, then you need to wait a couple of days before the procedure. This time will be enough for your curls to "rest".
- Experimenting with gelatin lamination after perm is not recommended.
Step-by-step instruction
Laminating at home has one drawback compared to salon lamination - the result is visible only after several procedures. For the greatest effect, you will have to be patient and do it once a week for a month. However, the lower cost can be a significant advantage of the home procedure. Let's consider step by step how to do it yourself. The proportions of ingredients are based on short hair.
- First you need to dilute the gelatin. Pour a 15-gram sachet, which corresponds to about one tablespoon, into the container in which the composition will be prepared. Better to take porcelain or enamel dishes.
- Pour in three tablespoons of cooled boiling water, cover and hold for 20 minutes. If part of the powder does not dissolve, but forms small lumps, slightly heat the mixture. Avoid boiling, break them. If you overexpose gelatin on the stove, then it can lose its properties.
- Now you need to add half a spoonful of the conditioner you usually use to the resulting mixture.
- Wash your hair and lightly blot your hair.
- While the solution is still fresh, distribute it through the hair, avoiding the root area.
- Wrap your head in plastic wrap and wrap it in a warm towel. For more active penetration of gelatin into the hair structure, you can warm it up with a warm stream of air from a hair dryer. The latter is optional.
- After 30 minutes, wash off the mixture without shampoo, using not hot, but warm water. It is believed that rinsing with lemon water (a tablespoon of juice per liter) will help to fix the result.
If you are the owner of long hair, then you will have to prepare more composition, the main thing is to observe the proportion of one part of powder to three parts of water. Usually, 2 tablespoons of gelatin powder are taken for an average length, and 3-4 spoons for long ones.
The second version of the composition for home lamination has a richer composition and therefore you may like the effect of it more.
- Similar to the previous option, first you need to pour one tablespoon of gelatin with three tablespoons of not too hot boiled water. Stir the mixture so that no lumps form and set to swell.
- Wash your hair well with shampoo to remove any impurities. No need to use balms for better combing. Dry your hair slightly, leaving it slightly damp.
- Place a saucepan on the stove and use it to make a water bath. Heat the gelatin to dissolve completely, but do not boil.
- Cool the resulting mass and stir in the rest of the ingredients.
- Apply the composition to your hair and rinse it off after an hour.
The third formulation includes apple cider vinegar, which is known for its beneficial properties in cosmetology.
- Fill the gelatin in the same ratio, leave it to saturate.
- After 20 minutes, pour a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into the mixture and mix again.
- Lightly heat the container with the composition in a water bath and add lavender oil there. Gently massage the mixture into your hair and leave it on for half an hour, then rinse.
Recipes
We bring to your attention useful hair masks, which contain gelatin. They must be used after home lamination in order to keep the result as long as possible. We will also consider several recipes that enrich the laminating composition with vitamins and minerals.
Nutritious
The above classic lamination recipe serves as the basis for home cosmetics. So, if you replace the water with something more useful, you can get a very good mask.
For fair-haired women, a decoction of chamomile or lemon water is well suited, and for brunettes, juice from carrots or a decoction of nettle is well suited.
Hair loss
To strengthen the hair follicles, it is good to add half a teaspoon of castor oil or burdock oil to the gelatin base. You need to keep the composition for an hour under a towel or warm hat.
For volume
Composition:
- gelatin - a teaspoon;
- colorless henna - a teaspoon;
- mustard - a teaspoon;
- water - two tablespoons;
- yolk.
Put the gelatin to swell and after 15-20 minutes, pour the yolk into the mixture. If it is difficult to get a homogeneous mass, you can add a little water - the main thing is that the consistency of the mask is like sour cream. Then add all the other ingredients. It takes about an hour to keep the mixture on the hair wrapped in a towel.
For oily hair
Composition:
- gelatin - a tablespoon;
- lemon juice - 4 tablespoons;
- conditioner or mask - half a tablespoon;
- yolk.
For dry hair
Composition:
- gelatin - a tablespoon;
- water - 3 tablespoons;
- apple cider vinegar - 1 teaspoon;
- lavender oil - 1 drop.
Universal
Composition:
- gelatin - a tablespoon;
- water - two tablespoons;
- aloe juice - a tablespoon;
- parsley juice - a teaspoon.
These masks are prepared according to the same principle. Mix all ingredients, apply and leave on hair for half an hour. Use a towel or hat for insulation. After 30 minutes, rinse off the gelatin mask with warm water and pat dry your hair with a towel.
Gelatin shampoo
Composition:
- a decoction of a mixture of nettle, burdock and chamomile - a third of a glass;
- gelatin - 3 tablespoons;
- regular shampoo - 2 tablespoons.
First, prepare the gelatin by filling it with water, and then dissolving all the lumps, pour shampoo into it. Spread the resulting composition through your hair and wash your hair after 10 minutes. In this case, you do not need to wrap your hair. After the specified time, rinse your hair.
In addition to the traditional gelatinous lamination composition, you can find other interesting recipes that do not include it.
Mustard
To prepare the mixture, the following products are taken:
- dry mustard;
- eggs.
The ratio of ingredients is selected by eye, the main thing is that the resulting composition has the consistency of sour cream. Whisk the raw eggs in a bowl with a whisk or fork and gradually add the mustard powder. Distribute the resulting gruel through your hair, rubbing the strands together for better absorption, and then go through the hair with a comb with rare teeth and warm your head. After an hour, the composition can be washed off, without the need to use detergents.
On kefir
Composition:
- kefir - four spoons;
- mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons;
- chicken egg.
Vitamin remedy
Composition:
- honey - a teaspoon;
- oil (castor, burdock, coconut or other) - a tablespoon;
- vitamins A, E - a couple of drops;
- egg.
Both recipes assume a similar application. Combine all components and apply to hair, after half an hour rinse with warm water.
How long does it last?
When laminated in a hairdressing salon, the effect usually lasts up to one or two months. If you constantly do this manipulation, then the appearance of the hairstyle will improve significantly, but you need to remember that the benefits and visible results directly depend on how correctly it is done. Home lamination fades away faster, so it is recommended to repeat it weekly for two to three months to achieve a long lasting and powerful effect.
After the gelatin has accumulated in the hair, you can forget about lamination for several months, and then repeat this course again. Another option is to apply the gelatinous composition every three weeks.
Advice
- The best effect of this procedure is noticeable on thin and dry hair, but recalcitrant curls give in to it very badly, so you will have to choose other procedures for them.
- It is also good to do home lamination on hair after dyeing, as gelatin envelops the hair and prevents the dye from washing off.
- From using a hair dryer, the result of the procedure will not come to naught, and it is better not to use an iron and curling iron. Moreover, the hair will become more obedient and will look gorgeous without additional styling.
- The first day after lamination, do not do ponytails and other hairstyles so as not to overtighten your hair.
Hair care after the procedure
Try to use combs made from natural materials. Accessories with soft bristles work best.
When washing, it is recommended to treat your hair more carefully. That is, do not lather them too intensely, do not twist them when squeezing. Lather the shampoo gently and massage it into the scalp without harsh movements. Do not use too hot water to wash your hair.
The fewer alkaline compounds in shampoos, the longer you will enjoy smooth and manageable hair. You can replace your usual detergent with a special one designed for hair after dyeing.
Too high temperatures can damage the formed protective film, so when drying your head, keep the hairdryer 30 cm from the hair.
Reviews
The results of home lamination are impressive not only for the girls themselves who performed this procedure, but also for beauty experts. Some hairdressers admit that they make it themselves at home, since the price for a home composition is much lower than for a salon one, and the result is not inferior to a more expensive analogue.
Many women experience frizzy hair in rainy weather and high humidity. The strands do not want to lie flat, they begin to knock out of the hair or even curl. For them, lamination becomes a real salvation, as it protects your hair from the effects of weather conditions. In addition, after treatment with gelatin, the hair ceases to electrify. If usually, when changing clothes, they crackle slightly when in contact with clothes and are magnetized to the face, then after lamination you can forget about these unpleasant moments.
Most of all positive reviews about this procedure are left by girls with thin and sparse hair. Due to the weekly application of the gelatin composition, they transformed their hair in several procedures, giving it visual volume and density. But girls with very curly hair cannot get the perfect smoothness, but the curls become more elastic and shiny, which is also a positive result.
An important advantage of home lamination is also noted that gelatin, as a rule, does not cause allergies, and women with a tendency to such reactions have to choose any synthetic products with caution. Note that adding synthetic ingredients such as balm or mask to the home composition, the reaction of the hair can be different. For example, one of the girls added a coconut mask to the classic composition and the result was not only disappointing, but turned out to be the opposite - the ends began to look even drier.
Sleek, healthy hair never goes out of style. At all times they serve as an adornment of any woman, giving her image femininity and charm. That is why smoothing procedures for hair are always popular in hairdressing and beauty salons.
If you also want to get flowing and well-groomed curls, but at the same time do not have the opportunity to visit the master, do the lamination yourself, without leaving your home.
After home lamination, hair doesn't just look shiny - it actually gets stronger and healthier. It is also important that no harmful substances are used during this procedure, which cannot be said, for example, about keratin straightening. The mixture contains exclusively natural ingredients that every housewife can find or can be easily bought in a store, since they are quite inexpensive.
The main thing is not to forget to do the procedure regularly and follow the instructions.
