Features of futuristic clothing
Perhaps not a single century is famous for such a variety of styles in clothes and "loyalty" to them, as the XXI. A person in the literal sense of the word can wear at least a foil hat - and will be considered fashionable. Today we want to tell you about one of the most unusual and unique styles of its kind - futurism.
What it is?
It is generally accepted that the birth of futurism as a separate trend in fashion took place in the 60-70s. last century... The design gurus thought that the future of humanity would be inextricably linked to the conquest of outer space, and all people would wear shiny silver jumpsuits "a la spacesuit".
The eighties were marked by the boom of futurism, giving the world huge pointed shoulders, "acid" colors, the aforementioned overalls, large bright plastic accessories.
These days, the futuristic style of clothing stands out for the following characteristics:
- broken lines or, conversely, smooth, "streamlined" lines, geometric print;
- special materials of manufacture: vinyl, plastic, synthetic fabrics;
- metallized surfaces;
- futurism does not tolerate half measures: if you already decided to create a bow in this style, it must be thought out to the smallest detail.
However, one should not assume that this style is an exclusively "cosmic" direction that can be present at high fashion shows, but certainly not in everyday life. There are several types of futurism.
- Futurism-minimalism. Created on the basis of unisex style. Includes clothes with a touch of androgyny that can be worn by both men and women: oversized hoodies, tracksuits with metallic (or metal) inserts. Such things can easily fit into your everyday wardrobe.
- Surreal futurism. It's hard to imagine him anywhere other than the catwalk, perhaps in Lady Gaga's music videos. Yes, yes, these are the very famous “hooves” shoes, pointed shoulders, giant pockets and bulky hats with unusual details. It is difficult to imagine a person who would dress like this all the time, since it is not only too strange, but also inconvenient, non-functional.
- Retrofuturism. The great French fashion designer of Italian origin Pierre Cardin is considered his "father". Trapeze dresses with geometric cutouts were taken as a basis. His idea was picked up and developed by Paco Rabanne, another designer from France. His contribution consisted in the use of innovative materials in the production of clothing: cellophane, plastic. Nowadays, retrofuturism manifests itself in the production of products with an architectural and geometric cut, the use of metallized fabrics, etc.
How do I create an image?
Creating an image in a futuristic style requires adherence to certain rules.
- Your wardrobe palette should include the following colors: steel gray, cobalt, golden, silver, black, platinum. This is the foundation. However, do not be afraid of bright shades: feel free to “try on” acid pink, blue “electric”, bright green.
With their help, you can easily place accents in your outfit.
- Accessories should be large, massive, unusual: the presence of broken lines, clear geometric shapes, or, conversely, streamlined, spherical, is mandatory. An excellent choice would be chains, necklaces, bracelets, pendants in the space theme and the theme of the future. Wide belts will also fit perfectly into the image.
- Shoe design - sneaker, boot - implies a massive platform. Futuristic shoes are also complemented by high heels.
- Take classic clothing models as a basis for your look.: fitted dresses, leather jackets, bomber jackets, pantsuits, but remember that they must be made in one of the basic colors mentioned above.
Place accents with bright color splashes or accessories.
- A bow is not complete without proper hairstyle and makeup.... Style your hair creatively with a zig-zag parting or an 80s-style comb. For makeup, get metallic eyeshadow and shimmery powder.
Overview of designer collections
Eminent fashion designers at different times delighted connoisseurs of high fashion with their futuristic collections.
- Georgian fashion designer David Koma presented a stunning collection at Aurora Fashion Week... It consisted of fitted dresses with geometric details - "spiked" inserts on the shoulders, hips, zigzag prints.
The classic colors were used: black, gray, golden, beige.
- Alexander McQueen surprised the world with his hoof shoes - the very ones in which Lady Gaga starred in the video for Bad Romance. He also tried his hand at clothing: his black and yellow masterpiece of silk with a lace print was worn by Naomi Campbell herself.
- French designer Nicolas Gesquière (Ghesquière) invented for the Balenciaga brand a futuristic line in which he used a combination of bright and pastel shades with a metallic color.
- House Versace never deviated from world trends, so futurism did not pass him by. The collection was created on the basis of the classic style with the broken lines of the cut inherent in the futuristic direction.
Stylish examples
In order to visually show the style of futurism in clothes, we have selected several stylish examples.
A very unusual and striking image. Used only 2 colors: black and electric blue, but how impressive they look! Pay attention to the version with leggings - it is quite possible to take it into service to create a bow.
High-fashion... The male version is unlikely to "take root" in everyday life, but the female version is quite simple - only the color is unusual.However, if one of the details (trench coat or trousers) is replaced with the same type, but black, you get an excellent futuristic casual outfit.
A silver bomber jacket, glasses with yellow glasses, a bag on a large chain - that's it. street version of futurism.
This bow "refers" to the futuristic style thanks to unusual cut of a skirt and turtleneck.
