Summer time is the time for walks, outdoor recreation. Often the faithful companions are your favorite jeans, which provide convenience and comfort while on vacation, so they often get dirty. Many people wonder how to get the grass off their jeans.

Peculiarities

Denim is a versatile fabric that is durable and comfortable. If any kind of dirt appears on the clothes, do not delay the washing process. The sooner you start cleaning your jeans from the grass, the easier the process itself will be.

The grass has a protein structure, so before washing the soiled product should be soaked in water, but only in the cold... Do not use hot water, as this will permanently set the green stains into the fabric.

To remove grass stains from jeans, you should use enzyme-based laundry detergents as they break down proteins quickly, helping to eliminate stains completely.

It is necessary to adhere to a certain sequence when washing jeans stained with grass:

  • The place of contamination must be wetted in lukewarm water and squeezed out a little.
  • Sprinkle the stain with powder or rub thoroughly with laundry soap.
  • Leave the garment for about 15 minutes to soak deeply into the fabric of the jeans.
  • Wash clothes by hand or using a typewriter.

Basic ways

It is not always possible to remove herbal pollution with the help of washing and modern powders, so you should pay attention to folk remedies. At home, you can easily find all the necessary tools for high-quality cleaning of your favorite jeans.

Ammonia

Ammonia has a strong, unpleasant odor, therefore, before using it, you must put on a gauze bandage and open the windows so that the pungent smell disappears quickly.

Ammonia fumes can lead to severe poisoning. Ammonium is a universal remedy, as it allows you to cope with various stubborn stains.

It is necessary to take a cotton swab or a small piece of rag, dip it in ammonia and thoroughly wipe the grass stains. After that, the jeans should be washed in warm water.

To quickly wash away grass stains on light-colored jeans, you should mix ammonia and water in equal proportions, and add only 5 ml of hydrogen peroxide. It is necessary to thoroughly wet the stains on the product with this solution and let it soak into the fabric, leaving it for about 10 minutes. Next, the product must be washed off the clothes, but only in water with a temperature not higher than 30 degrees.

To quickly wipe away grass stains, you can use an aqueous solution of ammonia, for the preparation of which you will need 1 teaspoon of ammonia per 200 ml of warm water. Moisten the stains with a solution and wait about 30 minutes. After that, all contaminated areas should be thoroughly lathered with laundry soap and left for another 30 minutes. After these procedures, the jeans can be put into the washing machine.

Vinegar

You can use table vinegar or wine vinegar. Grass stains can simply be moistened with vinegar and left for 60 minutes. If the amount of vinegar allows, then you can take a brush and, dipping it into an acidic liquid, carefully rub the contaminated areas. After the vinegar reacts with the protein structure of the grass, the treated areas must be rinsed with water and sent to the washing machine.

Boiling water

Boiling water will not help remove old stains; it can only be used to remove fresh grass.

It is necessary to pull the jeans over the container and pour boiling water over the stain. Keep the fabric taut, as only then can water get into all the fibers. Boiling water can be poured several times in a row.

After that, the product should be washed immediately in an automatic machine using the maximum permissible water temperature.

Soda

Baking soda is an excellent stain remover and is often used to remove all kinds of stains on clothing. It is in great demand because it is cheap and is always at hand. Its only drawback is that it can damage the texture of delicate fabrics, so you should be careful.

To prepare the solution, you need a little water and a few tablespoons of baking soda. As a result, a mushy mixture should appear. You can add a tablespoon of vinegar to the mixture to enhance the process of removing the grass stain. The resulting mixture must be applied to the contaminated areas and left for 60 minutes.

If you need to quickly remove the stain, you can rub these dirty areas with a brush for 10 minutes. Next, the jeans need to be washed in a machine or by hand with the addition of washing powder.

Lemon acid

A few tablespoons of citric acid, diluted in 200 ml of water, do an excellent job of removing various stains. It is necessary to wet the contaminated areas of clothing and leave for 40 minutes. Then the clothes can be sent to the washing machine.

Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is only suitable for cleaning light-colored jeans as it can lighten the fabric. It perfectly brightens the coloring pigment of the grass. Use a cotton swab to treat stains. Treat grass stains gently and leave for one hour. After the procedure, jeans can be washed by hand or in an automatic machine.

Salt

There is always salt in every home. To prepare the solution, you will need 200 ml of water and 2 tablespoons of salt. Using a sponge, apply the solution to the stains and let it soak into the fabric, leaving it for about 20 minutes. Then you can send the jeans to the washing machine.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste is an excellent stain remover, but you can use only white paste. It must be squeezed onto the brush and rubbed into the stains, then wait until it is completely dry. After that, you need to remove the dry residue of the paste and wash your clothes.

How to remove stubborn stains?

To remove stubborn grass stains, you can use one of the above methods, but only increase the exposure time of the product to the fabric. You can leave the treated stains for three hours, or better overnight. In the morning you can already wash your jeans, there will be no lasting traces of grass.

Expert advice

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Do not use stain remover on fabric right away, especially if colored jeans have been damaged. It is always best to test in an inconspicuous place so as not to completely ruin the item. This way, you can make sure that the color of the jeans after the stain remover will not be affected.
  2. When removing stains, you do not need to apply much force, as strong friction can ruin the fabric, damaging the fibers, and the herbal pigment is absorbed even deeper into the fabric itself.
  3. Old stains are very difficult to remove. It is best to clean the jeans as quickly as possible for easy stain removal.
  4. You should not experiment and apply all known methods of eliminating grass stains at once. If you brush too hard, then the grass will sink into the fabric even deeper, and it will be impossible to get rid of green spots.
