Choosing skis for children from 3 years old must be very careful. First of all, you need to find out whether you should choose wooden or plastic skis. Additionally, they clarify how to choose them, taking into account the height and weight of young users.

Which material should you choose?

It is worth pointing out right away that wooden children's skis for children from 3 years old are quite stable. They can drive stably even in severe cold conditions. But one must understand that such structures can easily break under mechanical stress. In addition, the wood will have to be lubricated with special mixtures. The cost of purchasing them will make life very difficult.

Plastic is the total opposite of wood. It is very durable (if we talk about high-quality grades of material). There is no need to buy lubricant and waste time applying it. But you can accelerate to high speed.

However, just for children's skis this is not too important, and can even be considered a minus.

How to choose according to height and weight?

At the age of 3 to 7 years, the length of the skis, both plastic and wooden, must correspond to the height of the child. It will be 40-90 cm. The running equipment should "grow" with the user. Taking it "with a reserve" is not too correct, it is both inconvenient and even threatens with injuries. For lovers of classic skiing, the length will be 15-20 cm longer than the height of the child.

The main recommendations are as follows:

  • with a growth of 0.8 m, the length of the skis should be 1 m;
  • with an increase of 1 m - you need already equipment with a length of 1.2 m;
  • children with a height of 1.3 m require equipment with a length of 1.5 m.

Weight categories should also be taken into account:

  • children weighing 14 kg need to take skis 0.7-0.8 m;
  • with a mass of 18 kg - 0.9-1 m;
  • with a mass of 23 kg - 1-1.1 m.

Other selection criteria

You should carefully find out whether a notch is needed. Its use increases the comfort of climbing.There is no need to lubricate these skis. However, sooner or later you will have to go down the mountain, and also ride on the plain. In this case, the notch is already interfering.

If there is no notch, you can accelerate to a higher speed, and even skate. However, one must understand that this is achievable only with the active use of sticks. And that's about the style and it is worth talking in more detail. Slightly older children can already choose the most suitable riding option for themselves.

The skate option is not suitable for beginner skiers. This is equipment without notches, which has sharpened sides along the edges. The role of these bumpers is to prevent sideways sliding. Noses don't bend. Skating skis are 10 cm taller than the rider.

Ski classics allow you to successfully master the ride. There are both plastic and wooden versions of such equipment. You can diversify solutions in length. Thanks to the pointed toe and notches, the child on the track will not roll back. However, driving at high speed is unlikely to work.

Experts advise avoiding buying ski boots. A choice of inexpensive soft rubber or leather bindings allows you to use any shoe with your skis. However, it is more correct to use more reliable solutions - semi-rigid metal fasteners. If the child is 7 years old or more, it is necessary to use skis with a rigid fixation, which allow the use of special boots.

The width of the skis determines how comfortable it is to stand on it and master the art of skiing. But again, only on narrow skis can you accelerate to high speeds. There are also such recommendations:

  • avoid choosing professional samples;
  • you need to master riding on models marked with step;
  • if it is difficult to choose a specific sample, you should give preference to the universal versions;
  • children's alpine skis are the shortest and lightest, have a somewhat "fitted" shape.

The following brands have the best reputation for ski equipment:

  • Scott;
  • Fischer;
  • Volki;
  • Atomic;
  • Nordica;
  • Blizzard.

Cross-country skis usually need to be purchased earlier than alpine skis. However, sometimes you have to make a different choice, simply because it is predetermined by childhood inclinations. When the terrain allows for both types of equipment, the choice must be thoughtful and careful. Sometimes you should first take both of them for rent, test them in and draw your own conclusions. Between the ages of 7 and 10, you can sometimes choose skis for extreme tourism.

They are designed for off-road performance. Of course, such designs are suitable not only for extreme sportsmen, but also for those who live in remote, hard-to-reach places. The rigidity of such products is as high as possible. They must be carefully checked to ensure reliability. It is also necessary to check the certificates of quality and conformity, to get acquainted with independent reviews of products.

Recreational (or beginner's) skis can be made from cheap plastic. But they should not be completely junk either. Mid-range models should be lighter.

It makes no sense to choose expert and sports samples for children from 3 to 10 years old. All the same, it will not be possible to reveal all their possibilities.
