The process of grinding and polishing is one of the sequential manipulations of a manicure or an independent finishing procedure. For this, a nail file is used, which can be made of various materials.

What is grinding for?

Grinding is performed to level the surface of the nail plate, get rid of transverse and longitudinal grooves, and other defects. Removes dye residues, pigmentation from poor-quality varnish or gel. Removes excessive yellowness from the nail.

This stage when performing a manicure is necessary for alignment, therefore, for better adhesion of the nail plate to the base coat, which lengthens the service life of the manicure. Grinding files should be selected with a coarse abrasive, rubber or foam base; glass files are also handy.

Grinding itself is harmless. But uncontrolled over-execution degrades the quality of the nail bed.

The procedure is harmful for weakened nails. For a thin nail plate, grinding is a traumatic manipulation. The nail becomes thinner, exfoliates, fragility increases. The varnish does not hold well and does not last long.

Therefore, the polishing should be performed by a specialist in manicure design in the salon with the use of medical procedures: baths, masks, oils. Polishing with wax is also suitable for a weak nail plate.

What is the purpose of polishing?

This type of procedure is carried out as the final stage of grinding or independent manipulation, when varnish application is not required. It is necessary to give a smooth, shiny, well-groomed and healthy look.

In addition to aesthetics, polishing increases blood flow, stimulates the growth of the nail plate.

A polishing file is used for this. It differs from a grinding tool in a finer dusting.

Another type of polishing accessory is a buff with a suede surface. The disadvantage of using this tool is the impossibility of professional antiseptic treatment in salons. Therefore, this item is recommended to be used individually at home.

Instruments

Accessories with different abrasive spraying and made of different materials are used.

Files:

  • metal;
  • glass;
  • synthetic-based cardboard.

The metal tool has a dense surface and is used for filing.

Glass - effective for shortening the length, as well as for grinding the surface. Such a tool can be easily treated with antiseptics in the salon, while retaining its qualities for a long time. The only negative is very fragile.

The third type of files is the most convenient, practical, budgetary option. The surface is pasted over with cardboard with varying degrees of spraying.

Buff is a special file in the form of a bar with 2 or 4 edges. Translated from English means "polishing". This reflects the main functions of the subject.

The edges are different colors, numbered to indicate the sequence of actions. To level the surface of the nail plate, use the grinding surface with the first number, then go to number 2 and so on. Finish with the last buff number. This is the finest polishing surface.

The base of the instrument is made of rubber or synthetic foam. It is lightweight, comfortable to hold in the hand, and comfortable to work with.

There is a kind of buff with a fabric surface. Most often, suede is used for these purposes. A delicate polish is achieved with a natural coated tool.

Disinfection and sterilization of a suede instrument in salons is impossible, therefore it is used at home.

Polishing thin nails

Grinding the rough surfaces of the nail plate injures it. Excessive dryness, delamination occurs, breaks off in the most inappropriate place.

To make your hands look well-groomed, salon masters suggest polishing with wax or cosmetic paraffin.

In addition to the aesthetic effect, active beneficial substances penetrate into the plate and treat it. Carrying out several procedures with wax will strengthen the nail and restore a healthy state.

Methodology

The procedure is performed both in the salon and at home:

  • hands need to be washed with detergent and dried;
  • using a file with a coarse abrasive to smooth out furrows and irregularities with light movements;
  • apply cosmetic wax to the surface of the plate, cuticle and periungual roller;
  • rub in the substance in a circular motion;
  • take a fine-dust file and polish the nail with wax on the surface;
  • processing of each plate should take at least 1 minute;
  • in conclusion, blot your hands with a napkin from excess paraffin.
