What is the Hare Krsna mantra and how to chant it?
Mantras are an amazing thing that allows you to touch the highest good. The mantra texts are written in the Sanskrit language. Some are tuned in to attract a positive aura into love relationships, others - to create family comfort, and still others - to raise internal strength and spirit. The words of the mantras with laconic musical accompaniment affect the performer from the psychological and spiritual sides, balance his consciousness.
The Hare Krsna mantra is recommended for purifying the mind and body. In words, it is known to many, but its features and principle of operation are not familiar to everyone.
Features and meaning
All religions support the opinion that sound vibrations of mantras contribute to the activation of spiritual energy. The Maha Mantra is a prime example of this. This great prayer allows you to clear your mind, gain enlightenment and peace of mind. The maha mantra is composed of the names of the Sanskrit gods. And what is remarkable, each name has a certain meaning, which contains a secret meaning. "Hare" is a direct appeal to the Divine energy "Radha". "Krishna" is the name of the Deity, which means "one who attracts everyone." "Rama" - translates as "one who gives pleasure in life."
These three words are fundamental in the Maha Mantra. "Hare" in this case is the concept of the energy of a single infinite source for everyone. With the correct performance of the Hare Krishna mantra, a universal powerful energy is invoked, which helps dissolve a person's bad habits, relieve him of negative emotions. Regular repetition of these magic words helps to release anxiety and fears that interfere with normal life.
The Hare Krishna mantra is a very beautiful prayer performed. Even listening to it, a feeling of flight, lightness and bliss is created, bestowed by the Divine powers. And this does not happen often. Especially if the listener is an avid skeptic. Sometimes such people do not believe in the existence of higher powers at all, and they find a completely rational explanation for translations of prayer texts and their origin.
Regular recitation or recitation of the Maha-mantra brings with it a number of seemingly incomprehensible advantages:
- eliminates bad habits, clears the mind of evil thoughts, destroys negative emotions;
- saves from depression, stress and anxiety;
- heals from mental suffering and anguish;
- gives a feeling of spiritual ecstasy;
- gives a feeling of joy, calmness and peace.
It is such happiness to be cleared, to forget about the negative. It is these benefits that every person lacks today. Many, however, cannot cope with internal fears, which is why they turn to a specialist. But the doctor of mental problems is not always able to help the patient. Only knowledgeable professionals will advise you to listen to the Hare Krishna mantra, memorize its words and sing along. Moreover, there are only 16 words in the text of Maha-manta and even a child can remember their order:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare ".
By the way, the Maha-mantra, or its more famous name "Hare Krishna", is not the specific property of the Hare Krishnas. This prayer is practiced in various religious trends, both in India and abroad. Historians and archaeologists have managed to find a lot of evidence that the Maha-mantra was performed in ancient Russia. Only instead of beads, the elders used their long beards. The famous art critic and ethnologist S.V. Zharnikova spoke about this more than once.
Unfortunately, no one can provide an accurate translation of the Maha Mantra. And if you think about it, this is not surprising. The text of the mantra is written in Sanskrit, and each individual word of the Maha Prayer has several meanings.
Modern society is used to the fact that the Hare Krishna mantra is directly related to the Hare Krishnas. Representatives of this religious movement claim that their translation is literal, but many culturologists are ready to argue with them and provide many facts of their delusion. The translation itself from the Hare Krishnas reads as follows: "O Lord, O your inner energy, engage me in the service of You." For ardent atheists, the meaning of these words is incomprehensible, and for some it even causes an unpleasant feeling. The reason for this is the belief that a person should not be a slave and not obliged to serve any Deity.
The last part of the translation of the Maha-mantra from the Hare Krishnas has a very interesting and very unusual meaning. This interpretation speaks of the purest soul of service. Not idolatry, but maternal feelings. Those who create idols for themselves, especially in the Divine sense, will never be able to feel spiritual grace. But mothers who serve their children are constantly experiencing the good of the Almighty. They care about their children with their hearts and souls, give them pure love, protect them from misfortunes and help in everything. In the text of the Maha-mantra, the word "service" is synonymous with "care." Accordingly, in the redrawn form, the text will sound like "teach me to always remember and take care of you."
The main point of the Maha Mantra is to keep the memories of God in the very heart. And if you look at it, when the mention of the Divine is glimmering in the heart, the presence of its spiritual power is felt. Of course, in the modern world it is very difficult not to experience suffering, depression and negativity. However, if you try, you will be able to put a block from all the troubles, smile and breathe deeply. All negative information is collected in the head, it also has a detrimental effect on a person's condition. But if the mind is purified, then the distance to the Divine power is reduced several times, which means that a person can directly open to the Supreme.Those who want to live according to the Divine commandments and want to know God should regularly chant the Hare Krishna mantra. But this does not mean that after repeating it once, purification will take place. Some have been practicing the Maha Mantra for years. But the most important thing is that they gradually notice how life is changing, the surrounding aura is improving and the balance of life is restored.
How does it work?
With the regular chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, the reader will be able to feel the effect after a few days. And first of all, there is peace of mind. The Vedas state that the words of the Maha-mantra make a person feel a spiritual ecstasy that is incomparable with any worldly feeling.
The power of the Hare Krsna mantra is contained in purification meditation. The sound vibration of the Maha-mantra makes it possible to forget about the troubles and anger that oppress the performer. Powerful energy covers the person from head to toe, restoring his peace of mind. The next symptom of the Hare Krsna mantra is a change of interest. A person who regularly practices this chant begins to lose interest in addictions. In this case, we are talking about alcohol, lust, gambling.
The further benefit of the Maha Mantra is entirely up to the individual. For some, family well-being is restored, for others, mutual understanding with colleagues develops, and for others, a common language with children is established.
Many parents start chanting the Hare Krishna mantra when their child is of puberty. And what is most interesting, the Divine energy, bestowed on the parent from above, fills the child's soul and protects him from various troubles.
How to read it correctly?
The Hare Krsna mantra does not require special conditions for execution. It can be chanted while lying on the couch, while in line at the store, chilling out on a park bench, doing housework, or doing personal hygiene. No action is considered a violation or offense of the Divine energy. And yet, to obtain a greater effect, a certain standard for the performance of the Maha-mantra has been developed. First of all, the execution time. It is best to practice the Hare Krsna mantra in the early morning, when it is still dark outside, at dawn or before sunrise. Such an early time was chosen for a reason. Before the sun comes, the mind of a person is in maximum relaxation and tranquility, which means that it is much easier to concentrate on pronouncing the name of the Deity.
Of course, not everyone is able to get up in the early morning. For some, this is due to the physiological characteristics of the body, in others - with work. Today, many people work the night shift and when they come home, they only dream of getting to a soft pillow and a soft blanket. Accordingly, they will probably miss the morning chant. The second factor in obtaining a quick result is the correctness of the meditation. Otherwise, this process is called "japa meditation". It is preferable for the practitioner to take the lotus position to perform the mantra. It is important that the back is straight, the spine is straight. At the same time, the eyes can be closed or left open, it all depends on the person.
Before starting meditation, you should take 3 deep breaths and exhalations. Thus, it will be possible to completely calm down, relax and tune in to the upcoming action.
By the way, the breathing exercise must be done before starting any meditation.
Before proceeding to chanting the Deity, the Panca-tattva must be performed. Surely many do not understand what it is and what goals it pursues. In general, this term means 5 incarnations of God, in which he appeared on earth in the 15th century. This was exactly Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu with his four associates. Panca-tattva involves spreading the rules of companionable performance of the mantra.
After chanting the panca-tattva, one can begin to practice the Hare Krsna mantra. The number of mantras recited should be counted according to the rosary, which should be present in the person's hands. You can buy a rosary or make it yourself. Their distinctive feature is the presence of 109 beads. Each individual bead requires the repetition of the Maha Mantra from beginning to end. Thus, in one meditation, the text should be read 108 times. 109 bead does not require reading, it is necessary to either end the meditation on it, or turn the rosary over and start chanting in the second circle.
Beginners spend about 15 minutes on one circle of chanting. Persons who regularly practice the Hare Krishna mantra can do it in 7 minutes. The number of circles also depends on the capabilities of the person. Those who wish to receive initiation from a spiritual master chant the mantra at least 16 rounds in one meditation. Japa meditation requires the practitioner to focus on the sound waves of prayer. The fewer distractions a person has, the more correct the meditation will be.
How to hold a rosary?
Rosary beads are used in many religious movements, but Hare Krishnas attach particular importance to this element. These rules are easy to follow even for non-devotees of the Vaishnava movement. The rosary must be taken in the right hand. The first bead is adjacent to the middle finger and slightly pressed with the thumb, after which you can start reading the mantra.
After reading the first text, the first bead is shifted towards itself with the thumb. A second one takes its place. And so on until the very end. Throughout the recitation of the mantra, the index finger should be slightly bent so that it does not interfere with the process of moving the beads.
This method of enumerating the rosary is very simple, and most importantly, it does not allow a person to get confused in the number of repetitions of the mantra being pronounced.
