Single sofas: characteristics and features of choice
Single sofas are very popular. But it is important to take into account their main characteristics and the nuances of the device, as well as the features of the choice. Only then will it be possible to choose the optimal upholstered furniture and fully enjoy it.
Advantages and disadvantages
It is very difficult to do without a sofa in a modern house or apartment. And it is not necessary - after all, you can find a suitable model. A single sofa with a seating area helps out great where you can't put a double product. However, for some people who are very mobile in their sleep, a single-bed solution is unlikely to work. It is also appropriate to compare sofas with beds of the same size.
If you plan to use the room only for sleeping, then the bed will definitely be better. But for receiving guests and even just ordinary things, it is more correct to use a single sofa. It is also recommended for small and narrow rooms. The bed will take up too much space there and will look uncomfortable. If you have a fairly large area, it is more correct to give preference to a bed.
Dimensions (edit)
Straight sofas in the kitchen are usually 1.3-1.5 m long. Only in large kitchens it makes sense to use furniture with a length of 1.6 m. Such sizes are optimal if you only plan to feast on delicious dishes. But for a large family, the required size is 1.7 or 2 m. In living rooms of a large area, they put 3-meter sofas.
When the house is quite large, specimens with a width of 0.9 m are used.However, sometimes narrower (0.7 m) structures are used to save space. The depth in most cases is 0.8 m. Other parameters are rare. They are usually selected in cases where the usual value does not suit.
The width of the corner sofa models is mainly equal to:
- 1,4;
- 1,5;
- 1,3;
- 1,7;
- 1,9;
- 2 m.
Usually, this indicator is selected, taking into account how many people need a berth. For children, sofas with a length of 1.5 m are often enough. But for adults, even 1.9 m is not always enough. In adolescence, compromise products with a length of 1.7 m are mainly used.However, everything is very individual here.

The simplest type of single-bed furniture is deservedly considered sofa couch. It should not be assumed that the couch is only appropriate in medical settings. Modern products can boast of excellent style and external beauty. They are often used for children. The backrest of children's couches is absent or very small.
After transformation, the sofa-couch will take up a little space. Even not very physically developed teenagers will be able to decompose. Some models can be expanded in both length and width. And the most advanced versions are able to transform into a double bed.
This solution will delight families who have to use very small apartments or houses.
Sometimes attention deserves and non-folding single sofas. They are used where there is enough space, and there is no need to resort to transformation tricks to save space. In addition, such furniture looks more elegant and sophisticated. Usually it is designed so that it turns out beautifully, aesthetically.
Since the backs are not involved in the transformation, the non-folding sofa turns out to be more comfortable and reliable; however, the functionality is somewhat worse than that of sliding or withdrawable counterparts.
Single sofas are often equipped with a click-and-gag mechanism... Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, it can be laid out from the very first movement. Using such a device will not be difficult for people who are poorly versed in technology. The only downside is that you will have to constantly move the sofa away from the wall. Or, initially, put it in an open place.
Popular scheme "accordion". Its working mechanism acts in the same way as the bellows of the musical instrument of the same name. There should be quite a lot of free space in front of the accordion sofa. However, there are usually no problems with its use. Once laid out, the accordions provide a fairly large sleeping place.
But many experts believe that in terms of simplicity and reliability, there is no equal to withdrawable mechanisms. The middle block of the sleeping area is located under the seating part. True, you have to put up with the risk of damage to the floor. And the height will be less than in other models. Many people like to sleep higher.
Design
No matter how good the folding mechanism is, you cannot ignore the appearance of a single sofa either. They often try to form a kind of "ensemble" of a sofa and a full bed. But such a decision is justified only where there is no shortage of free space. If we talk about the geometric shape, then the easiest way is to choose a simple rectangular sofa.
Such designs are in abundance in any furniture store.
In almost any setting, soft browns, whites and blacks are appropriate. They cannot be used only in certain styles - and then this is specially stipulated by the designers. But if there are no restrictions, brown paint will add visual coziness and comfort. An interesting step is often to use a black sofa that contrasts with the surrounding environment. It is advisable to place such furniture not close to a light wall, but opposite it.
Some people put black sofas near dark walls. In this case, they are supplemented with covers and / or pillows in light colors. Snow-white airy furniture is recommended for refreshing the composition. It is even more versatile than black and brown. But the use of a juicy red sofa should be taken with caution.
It is advised to play up with light dull decorative elements and the same curtains.
Quite often you can find neutral gray sofas. They will harmoniously blend into almost any bedroom. But for decorating the nursery space, it is worth giving preference to furniture in juicy tones, which creates a positive attitude. Sofas with images of heroes of popular films, cartoons, anime, comics and so on look quite appropriate. But acid colors (no matter what basic tone they belong to) are not suitable for bedroom furniture in any case.
Selection Tips
The design of the single sleeping sofa is very important - no doubt about it. But no less relevant are the universal requirements for the selection of such furniture. The main consideration here is size. There are three requirements for them:
- so that it can be quietly put (unfolded if necessary);
- so as not to interfere with walking;
- to allow you to sleep peacefully or just relax.
The materials used also deserve attention. Fiberboard and particleboard are actually "junk" solutions that can work normally no more than 1-2 years. But for a temporary solution to the furniture issue is suitable. Solid wood is generally better and more stable. However, the quality of a particular batch of wood and the technology of its processing already play a role.
It is impossible to predict anything here, it remains to check the quality certificates and reviews.
Finally, a few more recommendations when buying a single sofa:
- not trust firms that sell goods very cheaply;
- do not go to basement stores and markets;
- check with reviews in several independent sources at once;
- make a list of questions and ask all of them to consultants.
