Upholstered furniture is always in demand in the house, therefore it is often exposed to various contaminants, which are not always easy to remove. And it's very important to choose the right sofa cleaner for your home.

Folk recipes

The simplest set of ingredients is most often used to clean sofas at home. Depending on what fabric the upholstery is made of - from flock, leather, velor, you will have to choose different recipes for washing with improvised means. In addition, there are certain rules for their application in a home or summer cottage. The cleaning process will consist of two stages: first you need to prepare the product, then apply it to the surface.

Folk recipes can be used to clean up the upholstery and remove stains. The simplest one is based on a mixture of soda and vinegar. The solution must be prepared in a certain proportion. For 250 ml of water, you need 30 ml of 9% vinegar and 5 g of soda.

If the stains are greasy, add 1 drop of dishwashing liquid to the mixture.

From these ingredients, a mixture is prepared for application. It is spread over the upholstery with a brush and then removed with a clean, damp sponge. During the drying process, the stains should first become brighter and then disappear completely.

An effective cleaner for the complete cleaning of sofa upholstery - a mixture of 2 packs of powder (about 800 g), 25 g of soda, 25 ml of vinegar and 2 liters of hot water. The mixture is applied to the fabric covering, rubbed in with a brush, and left to dry. You can speed up the process with a steam generator or hairdryer.

A white or light beige sofa can be helped by cleaning with based on 125 g of baking soda and 150 ml of hydrogen peroxide. The resulting composition is poured into a spray bottle and sprayed on problem areas.

Removal of streaks

If the sofa needs to be cleaned of stains that remain after cleaning or as a result of contact with different types of liquids, it is worth preparing for a long struggle. The main source of problems is often the urine of humans or animals. After it, a strong smell and unaesthetic stains remain. Here the main measure is speedy liquid removal - the less it is absorbed, the better.

Then you should proceed like this:

  • moisten a clean large sponge in liquid soap;
  • foam and apply to stains on the upholstery;
  • wash off with clean water;
  • repeat soaping several times;
  • remove foam;
  • wipe with an aqueous solution of vinegar;
  • get wet with napkins;
  • dry the stain with a hairdryer.

In order to avoid the appearance of streaks after cleaning, it is recommended to perform not local, but full processing. This will allow the upholstery to dry evenly. If local stain removal is performed, problems cannot be avoided. If the cause of their appearance is dust and dirt accumulated inside, you can solve the problem by periodically knocking out upholstered furniture under a damp white sheet. In this case, all particles hidden from the eyes will settle upon contact with the beater on the surface of the matter.

How to clean it yourself?

Most often at home it is necessary to remove stains from the surface of fabric or velor upholstery. Cleaning a leather sofa from dirt can be much faster and easier. It is worth considering the most common types of stains and the rules for dealing with them in more detail.

  • Coffee traces. This drink is especially often found on the upholstery in the recreation area or in the kitchen at home. But a dirty sofa is not a reason for frustration, coffee does not go deep into the material, it is easy to wash it off with an ordinary solution of laundry soap rubbed with shavings in hot water.The stain is treated with a sponge 2-3 times, and then dried with a hairdryer. Traces and odors from spilled beer can be removed in a similar way.
  • Wine stains. Traces left by red wines are considered especially difficult, they should be cleaned as soon as possible, otherwise an unpleasant odor will also be added to the staining of the material. The best remedy for removing marks in this case is regular table salt in the amount of about 0.5 teaspoon. The grains are rubbed with a brush into the area to be treated until they are completely absorbed, then it is enough to simply wipe the treated surface with a damp sponge.
  • Blood stains. They can be removed with a simple mixture, which consists of a 9% vinegar solution in a volume of about 70 ml per 1 liter of water. After wiping off the blood, you need to rinse the cleaning site with soapy water.
  • Oil stains. Substances with an oily base penetrate quite deeply into the material, so it is worth removing traces of them as quickly as possible. For this, the same table salt is suitable, but to enhance the effect, it is worth pre-ironing the contaminated area with an iron through paper.

If the upholstery is generally greasy, the use of Marseilles soap will help to return the sofa to a presentable look.

  • Fruit juice traces... You can remove pinpoint lesions using a mixture of vinegar and ammonia in equal proportions. The stains will disappear in one treatment. But it will be much more difficult to weather the aromas of vinegar and ammonia.
  • Ink contamination. Ballpoint pen marks often remain on the upholstery. To eliminate them, you do not need to make significant efforts; it is enough to rub the problem area with an antiseptic alcohol napkin. Contamination will disappear without a trace.
  • Stains on the wooden armrests. These contaminants can be removed with regular petroleum jelly. It is enough just to rub the wooden parts with it properly until the marks disappear.
  • Plasticine or chewing gum... They can be dealt with with ready-made chemical compositions, nail polish removers, petroleum jelly. In addition, preheating the surface of the fabric with a hairdryer helps to facilitate cleaning.

Do not forget about the features of different fabrics. For example, contact with salt is contraindicated for woolen upholstery, silk should not be in contact with a hairdryer, soda. When cleaning natural leather, it is recommended to abandon the use of hard brushes and highly degreasing compounds.

Velor is afraid of aggressive mechanical contact, its pile wears out quickly, so it needs regular dry cleaning with a vacuum cleaner.
