Roll-out forward sofas: features and varieties
Roll-out sofas are very popular due to their versatility and reliability. It is not only a comfortable place for daytime relaxation and receiving guests, but also a comfortable bed for sleeping. Roll-out sofas have their own characteristics and varieties - we will talk about them in our article.
Peculiarities
The main distinguishing feature of these sofas is the ease of their transformation into a sleeping place, which, moreover, turns out to be quite roomy, depending on the chosen model... When folded, roll-out sofas are distinguished by their compactness, therefore, owners of small-sized apartments prefer these models. However, when unfolded, these models require a lot of free space in front of them, so it is not recommended to place coffee tables and other furnishings close to the sofas roll-out forward.
The retractable mechanism of these pieces of upholstered furniture is very reliable and easy to use, so they are quite durable.
Their disadvantages include the fact that when unfolding, the retractable mechanism can scratch the floor, or a fleecy carpet can impede the easy movement of the retractable part. As for the first drawback, we can say that there are varieties of mechanisms that protect the floor covering, for example, equipped with rubberized wheels.
In general, roll-out sofas are universal and will fit equally well into the interior of the hall, bedroom, nursery and even a large kitchen.
Mechanisms
Experts say that transformation mechanisms cannot be good or bad - it is only important to choose your option correctly.
- "Eurobook" - this mechanism for turning into a sleeping place remains the most popular and reliable. The simplicity of the design is due to the presence of rails along which the rollers attached to the bottom of the seat slide.
- Pantograph - when unfolding, the front part of the seat does not roll on the floor, but moves in an arc through the air, making the unfolding procedure easy and safe for the floor covering.
- "Dolphin" - used in corner sofas. A special block extends along the rails from the bottom of the seat, then a hidden additional section is pulled out by the strap. The berth is supported at the level of the sofa by a special frame on brackets. Forward movement is accomplished by rolling the wheels on the floor.
- Forward folding - when unfolding, the backrest rises and is placed vertically. The seat rises, moves forward and rests on the floor stands.
- "Puma" - such models unfold quietly and smoothly. Springs and counterweights keep layout efforts as low as possible.
- "Accordion" - a very convenient option for guests. The transformation mechanism is based on the principle of the accordion. When unfolded, the seat rides forward, the back unfolds and lowers like accordion bellows.
- "French clamshell" - the folding mechanism is completely hidden in the sofa. The sleeping place is placed on supports.
- "Rich" - the design provides for a metal frame and lattice, due to which this type is more durable and applicable for frequent use. When unfolded, the seat retracts under the sleeping surface.
- Spartak (Ifagrid) - another version of the clamshell mechanism, a steel frame and a flat berth are its distinctive features. The robustness of the structure allows this sofa to be laid out every day.
Models
There is no firm classification of the types of sofas. However, depending on the parameters, which you need to pay attention to when choosing this piece of upholstered furniture, roll-out sofas can be classified:
- according to its purpose;
- by their functionality.
The first group includes the following subgroups:
- office;
- into the living room;
- to the kitchen;
- to the children's room;
- into the hallway.
For office models, the classic design with leather or leatherette upholstery is best suited, the same type of upholstery is used for kitchen furniture.
For the living room almost any sofa is suitable, in harmony with the rest of the decor with its style and shade. In the living room, corner models look very dignified, creating an additional area for relaxation and communication with a cozy atmosphere.
For kids pick up mini-sofas with upholstery made of durable materials in bright colors, the shape of such sofas is very diverse - it can be animals or your favorite cartoon characters. A feature of children's upholstered furniture is its maximum safety, reliability and environmental friendliness of the materials used.
Into the hallway a compact low sofa without armrests is suitable, on which it is convenient to sit down to take off or put on your shoes.
By functionality, roll-out sofas are subdivided into:
- on straight lines;
- island;
- modular;
- corner.
Corner - very ergonomic models, designed for almost any room, especially with an available free corner. Many models have the ability to swap the corner part, so there should be no problems when rearranging such a sofa. The length of the sides forming the corners can be either the same or different. Some corner models, such as the Indiana corner sofa, have built-in tables instead of one of the armrests. On such a table, you can conveniently place a laptop, and on its lower shelf - books and magazines that you can read at night.
The corner "Eurobooks", for example, the "Singapore" model sofa, have as many as two drawers for storing linen.
Modular sofas assume the possibility of rearranging modules depending on preferences. A very convenient option for kindergartens, offices and other large spaces.
Island sofas - very unusual rounded models that create a unique atmosphere of comfort. Tastefully selected interior items will perfectly complement the design of the room, given by such a cozy island.
There are sofa models without armrests, which is not very convenient. In Jersey, Fiji and Lisbon, bulky armrests have given way to beautiful pillows that you can customize, and you can store the pillows in the laundry compartment while you sleep.
Dimensions (edit)
Sofas are double and single, double, triple and even five or six. In addition, the length can be increased due to additional modules.
To maintain health and comfort, the dimensions are designed in accordance with medical standards. The width of one seat of a standard sofa must be at least 50 cm, of one seat in a lying position - 70 cm. However, the dimensions for different models may differ from the minimum.
- A two-seater sofa has a height of 80–100 cm, a length of 2–2.5 m. The depth of the seat is 80–90 cm.
- Triple rooms can be up to 3 m long.
- Children's mini sofas have the smallest height, some models do not exceed 60 cm.
- Corner sofas are massive and wider.
- Small compact straight sofas are 120 cm wide, which can significantly save space in a small apartment.
Materials (edit)
Roll-out sofas are designed with a frame, filling and upholstery.
The frame is made of hardwood, plywood or chipboard, and there are also more durable metal frames.
For the most expensive models, oak or beech wood is used, for less expensive ones - maple, linden, birch and walnut.
Upholstery
The upholstery of roll-out sofas is made of various types of fabrics.
Tissue materials include:
- jacquard - expensive, dense and durable, does not absorb moisture, of various colors;
- velor is a popular soft material, wear-resistant and hypoallergenic;
- cotton - pleasant to the touch, eco-friendly, of various colors;
- flock - versatile, durable, with a rich color palette;
- matting - especially durable, but soft, easy to clean;
- tapestry is an expensive, durable and dense material.
In addition, expensive models have a leather cover; as a more democratic option, they use eco-leather upholstery, obtained by applying polyurethane to a cotton base. Light eco-leather sofa looks elegant with wooden armrests.
Filler
The best filler material is polyurethane foam. It is quite durable and environmentally friendly.
But the filler made of foam rubber, despite its cheapness, cannot be considered a good option, since this material quickly crumples and loses its shape.
Also, spring blocks with good orthopedic properties are often used as fillers.
How to choose?
The choice of a sofa is a very important step, especially when it comes to an option that will be used both during the day and at night.A person spends about a third of all time in a dream, so it is not unimportant on what surface he spends these hours.
When unfolded, such a sofa should not be too soft, the sleeping surface should be flat, preferably with a solid mattress.
A roll-out sofa with a spring unit consisting of independent elements is considered orthopedic.
Much also depends on the reliability of the folding mechanism, first of all, how long the purchased item can last.
Experts recommend purchasing the "Eurobook" or "accordion" models due to their reliability and ease of transformation into a full-fledged bed.
