Today there are many products made from brass. At the same time, they are used in various areas of life.... In this article, we will talk about what, in general, brass is, what exactly is made of it, and for what, as well as how to properly care for products made from it.

Peculiarities

Brass - it's not just metal, as some believe. It is an alloy of copper and zinc with the addition of other elements. And this is its first feature - it is composition.

The second feature of this alloy is that the amount of zinc in it can vary, and this has a direct effect on the physical properties of the finished alloy.

In addition, it is the percentage of metal in this alloy that determines the scope of its further application.

The versatility of brass is also one of its key features. Brass is very popular today. statuettes, stands. Amulets and jewelry both ordinary people and world famous stars wear this alloy. And it is from it that many are made small parts for huge mechanisms in all areas - in the automotive industry, in the creation of household appliances and various types of transport.

Many believe that brass is harmful to health. This is partly true, but only in the case of using low-quality alloys obtained in artisanal conditions. Therefore, it is very important that brass was produced in specialized factories and by real masters of their craft.

Types of products

Brass is widely used in metallurgy. Today, products such as are made from it:

  • profiles of simple and complex shapes;
  • gears, corners, polyhedrons;
  • sheets;
  • pipes;
  • mesh;
  • tapes;
  • hexagons.

    Brass has certain properties that are used in the manufacture of items from it.

    1. Corrosion resistant... That is why plumbing fittings and pipes are made from it. And it is this alloy that is most actively used in the creation of a certain type of parts for sea-going ships.
    2. Antifriction properties brass is used in parts such as bushings for bearings. The softness and flexibility allows this material to be used to create high quality and durable bearings of various types and sizes.
    3. High thermal conductivity allow the use of the alloy in heating installations. It is in them that brass coils, pipes and siphons are installed, the service life of which is very long.

    And also from this material they make various fixtures for the bathroom.

    • Washbasins and bathtubs. Such plumbing items look very stylish, beautiful and unusual. Their service life is very long, and the baths themselves heat up perfectly and retain heat. In this case, products can be both built-in and free-standing. True, their price is quite high, so you can often see standard enameled products, only covered with this type of alloy on top.
    • Mixers made of this alloy look very expensive and unusual.... They often have bizarre shapes and sizes, and immediately become a decoration of the entire room.
    • Heated towel rails, brass holders and shelves are also convenient to use... They have an unusual appearance, high practicality and versatility.

      This alloy was also widely used in artistic casting. Most often, interesting and unusual things are made from brass.

      1. Decorative figurines and interior decorations... Here you can find figurines of animals, people, birds, various panels or frames for paintings or photographs. At the same time, crafts can be performed both in the classical and in the modernist style.
      2. Door and window fittings... These are door handles and decorative door locks and bells, window handles or elements of their slopes or platbands. Many people believe that such brass details give the room and the building as a whole exquisite chic and nobility. This category also includes overhead locks, chains and latches for windows and doors.
      3. Furniture fittings - armrests, legs, backrest elements or even the side parts of the seat. All details look luxurious, unusual and noble. With their help, even the most ordinary chair or sofa can be turned into a real work of art.

      Quite often, brass is also used in the manufacture of railings, fencing systems and even when creating street fences.... Often there are cases when the most beautiful candlesticks, lamps or sconces, more precisely: their body or leg is created from this particular alloy.

      Jewelers also frequently use brass in their work. It is important to make a small explanation here - brass does not belong to precious alloys, therefore sometimes jewelry made from it is simply called bijouterie. But this definition is not always correct. The fact is that the alloy can be used as an auxiliary material, and precious or semi-precious stones will be the main one. The item will be considered as costume jewelry if it is completely made of brass or has inserts made of items that have no jewelry value.

        Different types of jewelry are made from brass..

        • Rings. Moreover, brass itself in this case is used only for the manufacture of the frame, and not as a decorative element.
        • Pendants and pendants. The advantage of such products is that they look exquisite and elite, like jewelry of past years. They can often be confused with bronze jewelry.
        • Earrings. There are simply no limitations of imagination here.They can be of the most bizarre shapes and sizes, they can be made only from an alloy, or they can also be using other valuable metals or stones.

        The alloy has received wide application and at making a variety of amulets and protective figurines, for example, feng shui figurines. In principle, this alloy is universal, and it is difficult to imagine everyday life without it.

        How to care?

        The alloy is quite resistant to environmental influences, and if we exclude the impact of aggressive chemicals on it, then the period of its use can be unlimited. However, brass is prone to the appearance of a patina - a greenish coating, sometimes black, on its surface.

        At the same time, the patina appears on products that are rarely used. But even if such a raid appears, you should not be upset. All brass care consists of polishing.

        To do this, you must use a soft and clean cloth, with which the product is rubbed to a shine.... Store small brass items in closed soft boxes. If we talk about production gears, then caring for them, in addition to polishing, also consists in regular lubrication with special oils.

        But if alloy products are used constantly, then they are polished independently from touching them.

        Brass products are presented in the video.
