Features of detachable zippers

Zippers are rightfully one of the most popular fasteners. They are used on various types of clothing: coats and jackets, sweaters, vests, shirts, jackets. There are several types of openable zippers. They have advantages and disadvantages. They need to be studied before choosing a zipper and stitching it into a product.

Detachable zippers are those zippers whose both sides are not fastened together. The clasp consists of two parts - these are textile strips equipped with teeth. Fittings of this type are used on clothes that require full opening.

Both sides of the zipper are practically the same. The only difference is in the tip. One of them has a special limiter for the slider. The advantage of split zippers is that they break much less often. They can also be repaired using primitive skills and tools. The disadvantage is the relatively high cost.

All zippers of the detachable type differ from each other in many parameters. First of all, you should talk about the material of the teeth. They can be made of metal and plastic. Here it cannot be said that any option is worse or better. Depends on individual preferences. Plastic prongs are a modern option, and metal clasps have been actively used since the days of the USSR.

Fittings can be:

• single-lock - there is only one slider on the zipper;
• two-lock - the clasp is equipped with two pawls.

According to the type of teeth, the fittings are divided into two large categories.

• "Tractor". The peculiarity lies in the fact that each clove is a separate element of the entire chain. The zipper is highly durable and massive.
• Twisted or spiral. The formation of the teeth occurs from a synthetic thread, twisted into a spiral. The fittings are more flexible and flexible when compared with the previous version. But the strength in this case is somewhat worse. Twisted is very often used not only for clothing, but also for various awnings.

Zippers are one-way and two-way. The latter are most often used on clothing with the same function.

Each zipper has its own markings. As a rule, this value is indicated on the packaging for accessories. So, the letter value "T" informs about the type of lightning. There are numbers with the letter, for example, T1, T5 or T10. From this marking, you can determine the width of the link. This indicator is measured in millimeters. If you need to buy a zipper with 5 mm teeth, then you need to make a choice in favor of a type 5 fastener.

Of course, all zippers, regardless of other parameters, are divided into categories by length. There are many options, but the following are classic: 20, 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, 150, 200 and 240 cm. In addition to the size, the accessories are divided into groups by color. The classic options are black and white, but there are also colored ones.

Detachable zippers can be regular and hidden. With the first, everything is extremely simple, but the secret ones are designed to be outwardly invisible. Spiral fasteners are more often of this type, since tractor fasteners are too massive. The peculiarity of the hidden clasps is that the teeth are located on the inside.

Another difference between zippers is the type of zipper. There are three options here.

• Machine. It is based on a mechanism that locks its position regardless of the slider.
• Semi-automatic. It is fixed on the teeth only if the slider is pushed down.
• Haberdashery. It is not fixed, in any position of the slider it slides in both directions.

Zippers are produced both abroad and in Russia. The most popular domestic manufacturers are:

Despite the fact that the zipper is a fairly reliable fastener, it is prone to breakage during use. In order for this to happen as late as possible, it is recommended to pay attention to the following points when choosing:

• for high-quality accessories, the braid is always dense, dyed evenly;
• the denticles and spiral are uniform along their entire length;
• the slider slides unhindered.
