Wishful thinking is a cruel joke that irrational thinking plays with people. As a result - stress, depression, suicide attempts. How to prevent harmful thoughts from entering your head and where they come from, let's try to figure it out within the framework of this article.

What it is?

Irrational thinking is based on feelings... Such thoughts appear out of nowhere. It seems to a person that he suddenly "received his sight." Often they help him in this from the outside, in particular, when it comes to religious fans. In psychology, the irrational is considered one of the most dangerous types of thinking..

Often people who possess it are trying to establish life, bypassing all the rules and regulations. They do not recognize generally accepted postulates and, as a result, become hostages of their own illusions. They have some special characteristics, we will list them.

Excessive suspicion

Thoughts, initially similar to prophetic ones, eventually lead a person to a dead end. Obsessions like:

  • I know that he thinks badly of me;
  • he knows that I speak badly about him;
  • they think I am evil;
  • all around the enemies, etc.

Generalization of everything

Such thoughts pose non-existent and at the same time insurmountable obstacles to a person. The following signals come from the head:

  • I did not cope with the task last time, which means that I will never succeed;
  • this teacher "knocks" everyone in a row at the exams, which means that I will not be able to pass him a test;
  • this girl refuses to meet with everyone, which means that she will give me a turn from the gate.

Exaggerating the "magical" abilities of others

A person begins to consider himself an "open book" into which anyone can look. He is sure that:

  • he is seen right through;
  • everyone thinks that he is not like everyone else;
  • everyone notices his excitement;
  • any person sees his faults.

All these "postulates" lead to the fact that a person falls into a vicious circle, from which he cannot and does not want to.

Anyone who has a highly developed irrational thinking thinks that he understands everything perfectly. They are driven not by knowledge, but by premonitions. Often the basest instincts.

Typology

Even if you understand a little about how irrational thoughts are born in your head, you can immediately understand that they have no place there. Well, unless, of course, you have the same supernatural powers as the great Bulgarian fortuneteller Vanga.

If your “visions” are the exception rather than the rule, it's time to say goodbye to them.

First, look among your thoughts for those that fall under the following descriptions:

  • appear spontaneously;
  • interfere with reasonable decisions;
  • reduce labor productivity;
  • reduce self-esteem;
  • cause anxiety and irritability;
  • violate harmony with the outside world;
  • cause fear;
  • contribute to the development of suspicion and lead to loneliness;
  • create problems in both personal and professional life;
  • cause addiction to bad habits;
  • single out "idols", whose appeals seem to be the only true laws of life.

Exactly people with irrational thinking, inclined to believe in miracles, most often find themselves at the mercy of forbidden sects... They themselves do not notice how, under the influence of the "charms" of their leaders, they lose loved ones, jobs, and prosperity. Yesterday's successful businessman literally overnight becomes flexible material in the hands of skilled "puppeteers". The strings by which they pull seem magical. Unfortunately, this is far from the case.

Causes

A fairy tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it. And if, having reached adulthood, you still do not understand this, most likely you have problems. A person who cannot distinguish fiction from real history, lie from truth, is unable to understand why this or that event occurs, is irrational.

This property appears in each of us in childhood. When we wait for Santa Claus or call a mouse that will take our pain into its hole, this is nothing more than a bright manifestation of irrational thinking. But having matured, a person should realize that not all children's beliefs are true, and in principle, an adult should not reason like a child. If this does not happen, then first of all it leads to the problem of adaptation in life. Such a citizen cannot become a full-fledged part of society, since in his head, attitudes are triggered that interfere with integration:

  • I have no right to make a mistake;
  • I have to save the world;
  • the world must save me;
  • there is a continuous horror around me;
  • I can't deal with it and survive this.

People with this mindset are afraid of any oversight. Moreover, they are more frightened not by the fact of the mistake itself, but by the attitude in connection with it to their person on the part of others. They always think that they are being laughed at and bullied.

Such obsessive thoughts lead to depression or to a "spiritual" center with a healer of souls at the head. Although in this case, a person has only one correct path - to a specialist in a medical institution or to a psychologist's office.

How to fight?

Irrationality is difficult to recognize on your own. If the case is neglected, then it is still worth contacting a specialist.

If you believe in your own strength, are ready for introspection and changes in life, perform special exercises.

  • Keep a diary and write down any thoughts that cause you anxiety. or any other negative emotions. It will soon become clear where they come from and what causes them to be born. Over time, in this way, a "barrier" will appear in the head, which will not let irrational ideas go.
  • Don't panic, even if it suddenly seemed that the whole world turned against you. A colleague or close friend refused to communicate, and this became the cause of despondency. Perhaps they are just in a bad mood or they are tired.And everything that happens has nothing to do with your personal relationship. Always try to look at the situation from the side of the one who is nearby. When you are sad, are you ready for fun communication? Get in the place of your counterpart. It will soon become clear that the devil is not so terrible as your consciousness painted him. It's just that the friend was suddenly out of sorts. This happens to everyone, and this is not at all a reason to let all the dogs down.
  • Find a middle ground... Stop going from one extreme to another. Eliminate words like “terrible,” “impossible,” “great,” “best,” “worst,” and so on from the lexicon. Try to use less categorical assessments. Give yourself and others the right to make mistakes.
  • Don't give up on yourself... Even if the situation seems hopeless, never let the thought that it will kill you, make life unbearable. Remember that there are more important things in life.

Be confident in yourself and in your ability to cope with any task. And believe me, sooner or later the world will surely bend under you.

I believe that a person at the level of logic is not able to assess irrationality to the full extent of cognition and awareness of the world around him. In other words, if I don’t see it, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Logic limits your knowledge to the senses at the level of touch, smell and hearing!

Alexander, maybe it limits your logic ... You shouldn't speak for others.
