A beautiful manicure is every woman's dream. But not every lady manages to successfully cope with the task of maintaining the desired length and shape of the nail plate. Extension helps to correct the situation - a procedure that allows you to form the desired coverage without effort and long waiting for results.

There are different ways to create such a manicure. But one of the more popular options is shellac nail extensions.

Peculiarities

The manicure technique involving the use of shellac does not imply additional nail extension. This coating retains its own length of the plate, but makes it possible to achieve a higher aesthetics, while increasing the durability of the result obtained.

Shellac is able to last from 2.5 to 4 weeks without losing its brightness. And covering your nails with them is no more difficult than with ordinary varnish.

For the first time this type of decoration appeared in 2010 and quickly gained popularity. From a salon procedure, the application of shellac has gradually moved into an element of home care. Like gel, it needs to be cured using a special lamp. In contrast to the classic build-up, there is no significant cutting of the own nail plate, and the coating itself turns out to be neat and not too thick. An elegant and neat manicure using shellac is especially popular among working women and young mothers who do not have the opportunity to regularly attend salon procedures.

Advantages and disadvantages

Shellac or gel polish forms an even, effective outer coat on the surface of the nail. In addition, other advantages can be found with this application technology:

  • Natural result. The applied coating looks flawless without being too thick and allows you to mask small defects and irregularities.
  • Can be used on short nails. You can achieve a salon effect even if growing is not included in the client's plans of the nail salon.
  • No additional machining. No preliminary filing with strong abrasives is required - manual grinding of the plate with a manicure buff is enough.
  • Long-term preservation of results. You don't have to worry about the coating being insufficiently durable. Even as the nails grow back, they look flawless for up to 4 weeks without losing their strength and aesthetics.
  • Easy to remove without damaging the plate. Gel polish is removed quite easily with a special liquid. After removing it, you can take care of your nails as usual or use classic varnishes for decorative coating.

Not without its drawbacks. Shellac is removed with a caustic chemical liquid that dries the nail plate. And the difference between your own nail and the colored coating gradually becomes noticeable.

Which is better: gel or shellac?

The gel coating is chosen for themselves mainly by those women and girls who are not satisfied with the shape or length of their own nails. But for owners of a thin or fragile plate, this option is not suitable, since the base must be filed, removing the already small thickness of the stratum corneum. The use of shellac allows you to quickly and easily solve the problem. The high drying speed of the coating and the absence of a base with a significant thickness allows you to achieve truly impressive results efficiently and simply.

Gel coating requires much more complex processing and requires the use of additional consumables, long-term formation and drying process, purchase of special equipment. All this makes the use of the gel not very convenient for independent use. In contrast, shellac, with careful handling, allows you to create an even and beautiful coating. The master can work even outside the salon, providing the possibility of home modeling of the shape of the nail plate. Moreover, after removing the decor, you will not have to treat the damaged surface for a long time.

Can it be applied to extended nails?

The nails created with the help of the gel have a rather large thickness, and during the modeling a significant part of the plate's own keratin coating is cut off. But there are also more gentle building methods that allow you to use shellac in combination with them without any restrictions.

To create the most durable coating, a combination of acrylic and shellac is used, which acts as an additional strengthening component and allows you to give the desired decorative effect to the manicure.

The presence of gel nails extended on tips is not the best solution for combining with shellac similar in structure to them. Together, such a combination forms an unnaturally thick plate, which will, rather, make the manicure heavier, make it too rough. If the goal of increasing the length is not worth it, it is still better to apply gel polish directly to your own nails, quickly and efficiently decorating them even at home.

What to choose?

To understand what is better in a particular case, the manicurist performing the extension will help. If the main goal in the future is to grow your own nails, then shellac will be the preferable option. Providing effective protection against mechanical damage, such a manicure helps to give the hands aristocracy and attractiveness for a long time.

But it is not suitable for use by those women who regularly expose the nail plate to intense mechanical stress, such as typing on a computer or washing dishes without gloves. In this case, you will have to repeat the procedure much more often, because the destruction of the coating will be permanent.
