In Russia, such products are usually sewn with a width of 50 or 70 cm and a length of 70 cm, because it is customary to sleep on such square and rectangular pillows. For children's copies, there are standards in which the width can be 25-40 cm, and the length - 30-60 cm.But in different countries, the standard parameters of bed linen differ, respectively, and the sizes of pillowcases too.

Therefore, if you have a German or American pillow, most likely you will have to order an individual tailoring of a cover for it, because the Russian standard options may not work. You will also have to apply for individual tailoring if you want a pillowcase with a zipper or some large option, for example, 90x90. In Russia, bed linen manufacturers usually offer pillowcases in the following sizes (in cm):

Today, it is already very common to find sets with rectangular pillowcases, or just buy such copies separately. By the way, in Russia, in retail, you can sometimes find pillow covers with dimensions of 40x40, 65x65, 75x75, 80x80, 50x80 cm. But square pillowcases (30x30, 35x35, 45x45, 50x50 cm) and rectangular products (30x50, 40x50 cm) are for some reason a rarity or they cannot be found at all. Such models, including a decorative plan, will have to be sewn to order.

European samples are mostly rectangular and unusual for Russians in size. For example, 51x71 cm or 51x76 cm (the most popular size in Europe). If the first option can still be adapted to pillows 50x70 cm, which have become in demand in Russia, then the second is alien to us - we practically do not have such pillows. Therefore, when buying European standard bedding, be careful: be sure to pay attention to the length and width of the pillowcase.

European manufacturers sew a size of 65x65 cm from square products, you can hardly find other options even in retail in other countries. But in America you can easily find "royal" sizes with a length of 51 cm, and a width of 86 cm and 102 cm. Such pillows take up a huge area on the bed, but Americans love large berths, in this regard, Russians and Europeans are more modest, so they do not have such standards.

The traditional size of a baby pillow is 40x60 cm - this is a standard option for both Russians and Europeans. In Europe, such models for children are also popular: with a length of 50 and 30 cm, with a width of 70 and 50 cm, respectively, and in a square form - 35x35 cm. A cover for a baby pillow in domestic standards will depend on the age of the child, it usually varies in length from 30 to 60 cm, and in width from 25 to 40 cm.As you know, newborns and children under two years of age are not recommended to be laid on pillows.

But parents choose such products for them in a stroller or in a crib in the form of various shapes, then they buy the same pillowcases in the same store where they bought the pillow, or they sew to order. However, a standard 40x60 cm pillow is perfect for a stroller and a crib. Children can sleep on such a pillow until school age. Teenagers from the age of 14 are transferred to adult bedding, so they are already choosing pillowcases for pillows with large sizes.

To calculate the size of a pillowcase for your pillow, you need to measure the length and width of the product, as well as the dimensions of the pillowcase itself. Also find out from what fabric the cover is sewn, whether the textiles will shrink after washing - in this case, it is better to take a larger pillowcase or refuse to buy such copies altogether. Please note that if the pillowcase is too small, the pillow will collapse and you will not get any comfort during your rest.

If the cover turns out to be larger than the pillow, this is also not the best solution. In addition to the fact that this look will make the bed untidy as a whole, such a pillowcase will not hold the shape of a pillow, folds will appear on it, and this will also not bring pleasant sensations during sleep, you will not be able to fully rest. It is advisable to choose a pillowcase as accurately as possible in size, but if you have to buy not by size, then the permissible parameters are no more than 5-6 cm in length and in width you can take 3-5 centimeters more. And in no case choose a smaller size.

When determining the size, it is worth considering the volume of the pillow. Standard size pillowcases are made for average thicknesses, but if your pillow is noticeably thicker, it is better to choose a pillowcase slightly larger than the pillow itself. The same applies to a flat specimen - for this option, the standard size will not work. If you decide to sew a pillow cover yourself, when determining the size, be guided by the parameters of the width, length and thickness of the sleeping object, take into account the peculiarities of the fabric. So that it does not shrink, it is recommended to wash the material for the cover before making a pattern.

Experts recommend, even when buying a product in a store, to measure the pillowcase with your own hands on the spot and check with the dimensions indicated by the manufacturer. There are cases when the presented samples do not correspond to the declared parameters.
