The condition of the nails is one of the main indicators of the body's health along with hair, skin and mucous membranes. Healthy nails in the age of shellac manicure, fast food and the production of aggressive household chemicals are rare. They need regular care, nutrition and hydration. If the nail plates do not receive the substances necessary for growth and health, they begin to break, exfoliate and upset with their appearance and quality.

Causes of brittle nails

Like all living tissues, the nail plates can suffer from a deficiency of water, trace elements and vitamins, responding to a lack of nutrition by thinning, stratification and other problems. Weak nails can also become from stress, temperature changes and lack of proper care. The role of the cuticle in the condition of the nails is very great: it serves as a barrier against harmful factors and supplies the nails from the body with everything they need for health and growth. The condition of the nails on the hands reveals about two dozen diseases. Marigolds can warn of problems in the body even before the onset of symptoms of diseases.

Nails break, exfoliate and become soft for certain reasons, learning about which you can correct an alarming situation for the benefit of manicure and health in general. Most often, several factors harm nails.

  • Frequent coating with nail polish and then removing it with a nail polish remover, especially with acetone in the composition.
  • Harmful effects of chemicals due to special occupational conditions. Contact with acids, alkalis, cold and high temperatures is considered dangerous for nails.
  • Temperature drops. If hands are not protected by warm gloves in cold weather, such neglect is fraught with minimum fragility of nails, maximum - frostbite of fingers. In constantly freezing limbs, as you know, poor blood circulation, which cannot but have a detrimental effect on the condition of the nails.
  • Sometimes the reason for thinning nails is inadequate or improper care. Often, the health and quality of nails is badly affected by the use of nippers instead of a nail file and nail scissors.
  • Household work with household chemicals such as washing dishes, floors, mirrors, carpets and furniture will thin and weaken the nail plate. This can be easily avoided by remembering to wear rubber gloves on your hands.
  • Regular contact with chlorinated water makes nails less durable and healthy. After visiting the pool, be sure to take a shower and apply a moisturizer to your body and hands.
  • With a lack of trace elements and vitamins, the nails always look unhealthy and are characterized by weak growth. They react especially sharply to a lack of calcium, zinc, selenium, and also need a regular supply of iron and vitamins D, A, E.

How to strengthen?

If you take care of your nails as well as your hair and skin, the problem of brittleness and delamination will be a thing of the past. Just 20 minutes for your facials every day, and soon you will be proud of perfect nails and flawless manicure. It is not at all necessary to allocate time and money for visiting cosmetologists, all methods of nail restoration according to these recipes are available at home.

Paraffin relaxation

Paraffin or wax can strengthen the marigolds. Cosmetic wax is available over the counter and is easy to use at home to moisturize your nail plates. Melted in a water bath with a few drops of olive oil, it is applied generously to the fingers for several hours. You need to put on cloth gloves on your hands and give them a break from worries. At this time, you can watch a movie or take a nap, since doing housework in such ammunition is a little problematic. But on the other hand, nails and skin will become incredibly smooth and well-groomed in just a few procedures.

Jojoba oil mask

Jojoba oil has a miraculous effect on the health and appearance of nails. Very well restores them after wearing gel polish and frequent washing of dishes. The oily medicine should be rubbed into the nails warm, not forgetting to massage the cuticle area. Ideally, apply the oil to your hands at night so that the effects of nutrients are as long as possible.

Vitamin cocktail

Nails need vitamins, so it is worth pampering them with a "vitamin bomb" from a mixture of ready-made pharmaceutical preparations with vitamins A and E in capsules. Such a tool is not burdensome for daily care, but you will have to forget about decorative nail coatings for a couple of weeks. After a course of 14 days, you need to take a break for a month and repeat it again.

Gelatin recovery

For home care, use regular, colorless food gelatin from the grocery store. It needs to be diluted in 250 grams with hot (but not strong) water in the amount of 1 tbsp. spoons. When the gelatin swells and the water has cooled down a bit, just dip your fingers into it for 20 minutes.

Olive Castor Blend

In a deep bowl, combine castor and olive oil in equal proportions and lower the fingertips so that the marigolds are completely immersed in the oil mixture. Several of these procedures will restore elasticity to nails, accelerate their growth, moisturize and saturate the plates with important vitamins.

Chamomile and Oatmeal Mask

You will need dried chamomile flowers and oatmeal in a 1: 1 ratio. They need to be steamed with boiling water and cooled. Then, in a warm state, grind with a blender and apply the mixture on the fingers of the hands (on all hands as a whole).

Curd mask with vegetable oil

Ideal for brittle nails that need calcium.Mix natural high-fat cottage cheese in a blender bowl with any vegetable oil. You should get a mask as thick as sour cream. It needs to be kept on the nails for half an hour, not forgetting that it is better to smear not only the fingers, but all the brushes. Repeat at least twice a week.

Salt baths

The easiest and most affordable way to strengthen your nails. A bath of warm water with sea salt three times a week for 15 minutes in just one month guarantees visible results. Sea salt contains a whole range of minerals for healthy nails. The saline solution should be quite concentrated: for 250 g of heated water, 3 tablespoons of salt. After the procedure, it is mandatory to apply a nourishing cream to the nails and skin of the hands. It is advisable to do the procedure before going to bed and wear cotton gloves on your hands.

Essential oils

Lemon oil can quickly strengthen nails, lavender oil - to save them from delamination, bergamot - from brittleness. A drop of oil is thoroughly rubbed into the cuticle and plate of each nail.

Miracle ointment

It is made from melted beeswax mixed with calendula oil and boiled egg yolk. It is applied to the hands and left overnight under the reliable protection and warmth of cosmetic gloves made of natural fabric.

Ready-made strengthening compounds

Walnut oil is sold in a ready-made composition for nails and has deservedly collected many rave reviews about itself. It is applied to the nail plate with a convenient brush. Does not require rinsing, preparatory manipulations and application of care creams after the procedure. Do not use decorative varnishes during nail treatment. Only a reinforcing coating is allowed. This non-pigmented product will allow the plates to breathe and give them extra density.

Nutrition

If the procedures performed do not bring the expected result, and the nails remain weak and fragile, you should think about your diet. The brittleness problem can be corrected from the inside by enriching your menu with important trace elements and vitamins. Indeed, nail diseases are often an important signal of a lack of certain substances.

Important! Sometimes problems with nails are a reflection of a malfunction in the gastrointestinal tract. The incoming nutrients may simply not be absorbed. Your body may need help with dietary adjustments or visiting a gastroenterologist.

For healthy nails, it is necessary to enrich the diet with certain elements.

  • Vitamin A. Especially when white dots and signs of delamination appear on the surface of the nail plates. You need to consume 1-2 mg of this vitamin per day.
  • Vitamin B5. Its lack is manifested in tarnishing and the appearance of irregularities on the nail plates. The daily requirement to maintain their health is 2–5 mg.
  • Vitamin C. It is necessary for the prevention of fungal diseases. The norm of consumption per day is considered to be 70-150 mg. Sweet red peppers and black currants contain a lot of it.
  • Vitamin E. To nourish the nails, you need at least 30 mg (up to 60 mg). An excellent source is sunflower oil.
  • Vitamin PP. If the body receives less than 15 mg of it per day, the nails turn yellow and dull.
  • Iron. With a lack of iron, the nails become brittle. Solve the problem 100-200 mg per day. Pumpkin seeds contain both vitamin PP and iron.
  • Calcium. Provides strength to nails. On a note: salt interferes with the absorption of calcium, which insidiously flushes it out of the body. You need to consume 800 mg of calcium per day and try to minimize salty foods and meals in your diet.
  • Zinc. Thanks to this element, nails grow well. The daily requirement for it is 2 grams. Natural source - blueberries.
  • Silicon. An important element for the elasticity of nails. The required amount is 30 mg per day. The ideal product is raspberries.
  • Selenium. If the body begins to forget what kind of substance it is, the nail plates signal the danger of deformation. The body needs only 0.020-0.15 mg per day. Natural source - porcini mushrooms.
  • Gray. Nails and the body as a whole need it much stronger than selenium. If the nails have changed, bumps have appeared on them, the dosage must be adjusted to 500-3000 mg per day.
  • Fluorine. The body's need for the strength of nails is 2-3 mg per day.
  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids. In an amount of 1000–2500 mg daily, they will help to assimilate vitamins A and E, calcium and vitamin D. For this, it is recommended to eat enough cheese, cod liver and fresh fish caught in sea waters.

It is important not to forget to introduce foods containing all these substances into the daily diet, avoiding fast carbohydrates, starchy foods, sweet and fried foods. It is most reasonable to replace sugar with honey for the sake of iron, phosphorus, magnesium and other useful components. And instant coffee should be preferred to grain as a natural source of niacin and vitamin PP.

Professional drugs

Many modern working people find it easier to buy a ready-made vitamin and mineral complex for nail health. They are offered by many domestic and foreign manufacturers, saturating the compositions with useful additives. It is convenient to apply them on weakened plates with a brush. The bottle is easy to carry with you to work and take on trips, so as not to forget about medical procedures during a hectic day. The finishes can be made in clear or pastel colored nail enamels. But it is better to choose those that have a nutritious formula and do not block the flow of oxygen to the marigolds. Of course, only for the period of their recovery. After all, even medicinal enamels have to be erased with a nail polish remover, and this is a completely undesirable moment.

Folk remedies

Do not forget and about folk remedies for nail treatment.

  • Thoroughly washed shells from chicken eggs are well dried and ground into powder in a coffee grinder. Take 1 tsp. per day in a course of 2 weeks.
  • Finely chop fresh parsley, celery, tarragon and dill and mix with vegetable oil. Insist for two days, then take 1 tbsp. l. before breakfast for 14 days in a row.
  • Trays of a mixture of vegetable oil, 10 drops of lemon juice, 5 drops of vitamin A in an oil solution and 3 drops of iodine. Keep your fingers on for 10 minutes, and then do not rinse until completely absorbed into the skin.
  • Potato decoction is also used for 10-minute healing baths.
  • Rub the juice of aloe tree into the cuticle at night.
  • Wipe your nails with a swab dipped in an alcoholic tincture of vodka on red pepper (2 peppers per 0.5 liters of vodka or diluted alcohol).
  • Milk therapy. Heat whole, non-fat milk until warm and hold your fingertips in it for 20 minutes. The treatment course is at least a week.

Is it possible to smear with iodine for strengthening?

It is not only possible, but even recommended to use medical iodine for nail treatment. It has antibacterial properties and strengthens the plates. Even with healthy nails, it is good to use it to prevent brittleness and to improve growth. With weakened, problem nails, iodine is advisable to use daily or at least every other day. Even intensive treatment twice a day will not harm the nails, because iodine, with all its healing properties, is completely harmless. The only drawback when applying iodine is temporary yellowing of the nail plates. It is best to treat marigolds with coloring compounds before going to bed. Overnight, the nails will regain their natural color by completely absorbing the applied pigment.

Preventive measures

With brittle nails, treatment consists primarily in eliminating the negative factors that led to the problem. Taking remedial action without addressing the root cause of the disease is a waste of time.

  • During the recovery period of nails, do not apply quick-drying varnishes to them.
  • Before applying any, even the highest quality varnish, you first need to cover the plate with a special protective one.
  • It is important to properly cut the cuticle and not injure the natural surface of the nail plates with files.
  • When using chemicals in the home, you must protect your hands with rubber gloves. It may seem uncomfortable to many, but the skin and nails will be protected and remain healthy.
  • If the problem with the nails is too neglected, and they break and exfoliate strongly, it is necessary to postpone the manicure and decorative varnish painting for at least 1–2 months.
