Twists for knives: types and subtleties of choice

A leather twist for knives, even in conditions where small droplets of oils and fats fly in all directions, will last ten years without problems, and with a particularly careful attitude - all thirty. If you decide to make a gift to a friend or acquaintance who works as a (chef) cook in a restaurant, cafe, grocery hypermarket or an advertised narrow-profile clinic, or this is your girlfriend or wife who is a passionate cook, then a case for knives (sometimes together with a new set of knives) is one of the best signs of attention to a person, for whom cooking is both a professional activity and a method of self-expression. Don't skimp - it's better to get a high quality knife twist that will serve this person for many years.

As an alternative - leatherette, but its quality should be at the same level. For a month or three of active use, a bad leatherette is "embarrassed", numerous abrasions will ruin its appearance - and even after restoration (impregnation, repainting) it will not last long. Magnetic twisting prevents knives from falling out and getting confused. A flat neodymium or soft magnet (like those used in the gasket of the refrigerator door) is built into each "seat" of the knife. Like a magnet for fastening jackets or cases for smartphones, such a magnet attracts the steel blade of a knife by the end or middle of the point, it is securely sewn into the twist. The magnet is powerful enough and even allows you to hold a heavy knife-cleaver (if there is room for it).

If the knife is inserted into its intended place, not up to the handle, but as a whole, a fastener or loop is provided for it, preventing it from falling out during transportation. Such twisting is less common, and it is much more difficult to get knives out of it. When, when the knife scabbard is equipped with zippers, it is much easier to remove them for the forthcoming work.

Along with the scabbard, the fixing wraparound clasp (with a button or a clip) is an obligatory twist element. Without it, the latter would unwind, perhaps you would have lost the knife when carrying them. The button or clip must reliably hold the twist from accidental unwinding, otherwise you would have to use the laces.

Elongated - thanks to it, the twist resembles a handbag. Cheap twists of the middle price range are completed with brass or aluminum-alloy parts (zip fastener, buttons, rivets, framing inserts for lace tightening). In expensive models, stainless steel parts are used (or sprayed from it).

The best and most durable products are made from high quality leather. It is not possible to find a leather-cotton twist even in large cities. An alternative is to make them yourself.

The leather itself is bought in specialized clothing stores or from trusted private manufacturers.
