How to wash suede sneakers?

There are more and more lovers of sports shoes every day. And this is not surprising. After all, sneakers are comfortable, practical and even beautiful. Sports shoes can be very effective, for example, if they are suede. True, suede sneakers get dirty quickly and are not easy to tidy up. But, if you know some rules, then you can easily get rid of your shoes from stains and dirt.

What kind of pollution are there?

Luxurious and spectacular suede shoes have always been fashionable. Recently, not only shoes or boots have become popular, but also sneakers. Sports models are to everyone's liking, without exception. Even for those who are far from sports, but are very fond of comfortable and effective shoes.

True, not everyone runs the risk of buying such products, because they quickly get dirty. Suede shoes need special care, otherwise they very quickly take on an unkempt and unkempt look. Many who have not managed to return the previous look to sneakers, simply get rid of them and buy regular ones.

Dirt or sweat stains are highly ingrained in this type of shoe. You will not be able to get rid of such problem stains with a regular damp cloth or sponge. This requires a special approach and, most importantly, accurate knowledge. How to wash off dirt stains, how to do it better, will be described in detail in this material.

How to wash and clean?

Unfortunately, suede shoes are best worn in good, clear weather, but on a rainy, slushy day, it is better to wear something else. But it is not always possible to protect sneakers from dirt, and as a result, the stains eaten into the suede fabric with lightning speed and it seems that the shoes are forever ruined.

Take your time to wash athletic shoes and try to get rid of stains at home without knowing all the rules and practical tips. At home, it is quite possible to clean suede products so that they will regain their former appearance.

If you return home and your shoes are still stained with dirt, do not rush to wipe your sneakers with a rag. In this case, you will only smear the stains, and they will erode even more into the suede fabric.

First you need to let the shoes dry completely, and only then brush off the dirt with a brush... The brush should be special, not too hard, this can damage delicate shoes. Better to give preference to a rubber brush. Many shoe stores have a special suede brush available right away. Sometimes such a simple method helps to get rid of dirt and no stains remain.

Greasy stains, which also often appear on shoes, can be removed with regular talcum powder. It is enough to cover the formed stain with powder, leave it for several hours, and then clean it off with a rubber brush.

Steam cleaning is another effective way that has helped many bring suede shoes back to life. It is not necessary to have any special knowledge and skills for this, everything can be done easily and simply in your kitchen.

As you already understood, to get rid of stains, you need steam... Place a pot of water on the stove and heat until strong steam comes out. Then hold the shoe over it for a few minutes, then brush the dirty area with a brush. Then you need to leave the shoes to dry completely.

In addition, many stains from suede shoes can be removed with a regular eraser. Gently rub the edge of the stain with a soft eraser. If the stain comes off easily and disappears, you can continue the cleaning process. If not, then most likely the stain is deeply embedded in the fabric and now the sneakers need to be washed.

How can you wash quickly?

When there is a need to wash sports shoes, many try to do it right under the tap in a regular sink. But such a "wash" can permanently ruin the suede sneakers, and all you have to do is send them to the trash heap.

You can wash sneakers of this type, the main thing is to know how to wash them properly so as not to harm or ruin the shoes completely.

Before you start washing your sneakers, make sure they will actually withstand the entire process. That is, you need to check the integrity of the shoes. If the sole is lagging behind, there is slight damage to the fabric or small decorative details that may come off during washing, then such shoes should not be washed.

First, brush off the stains as described above.... This will be the preparatory stage before the main wash.

Manually

If you decide to manually clean your athletic shoes at home, be prepared for a lengthy process. By the way, if you walked in bad weather and returned home in wet shoes, then they should be thoroughly dried.

Never put it on a battery, otherwise, ruin your sneakers completely: after drying, they will become clumsy and smaller.

In order to properly dry them, you need to stuff the shoes tightly with clean paper, newspapers and leave in a warm place until completely dry.

The cleaning steps are as follows:

  • The first thing to do is to mix ordinary ammonia with warm water. With this solution, slightly moistening a rag, all dirt should be thoroughly wiped off. Try not to wet your shoes too much, otherwise the stains will be absorbed and stains will remain, which will be extremely difficult to remove.
  • Second - take regular liquid soap, add one tablespoon of ammonia to it and mix thoroughly. As a result, you should get a uniform consistency and abundant foam. This solution, quite a bit, needs to be applied to the stain and rubbed with a special shoe brush for suede. Try to rub gently without damaging the surface.
  • Third, wash off the foam with a pre-prepared solution: water and vinegar. After the sneaker, you need to leave it to dry completely.

If your favorite sneakers are not just light, but even white, then they need a particularly delicate approach.Such shoes are very difficult to care for and even more difficult to remove dirt stains.

To clean your white suede sneakers, prepare the following solution: baking soda and regular milk. With this solution, you need to gently wash your sneakers without getting too wet. By the way, this method not only gets rid of stains, but also helps to restore the former whiteness of the shoe.

And brown shoes can be wiped with a thick solution of ground coffee. You can use drunk coffee, but without sugar and milk. After you've cleaned your shoes of stains, apply this gruel to help restore color and make stains less visible.

Is it machine washable?

Washing shoes by hand is a tedious process. And why should we suffer so much, if in our modern time every house has a washing machine. Of course, you can wash shoes in an automatic machine, but you need to be extremely careful with suede products.

Before sending your sneakers to the washing machine, be sure to clean them of lumps of dirt, including on the sole.

Remember that such shoes should be washed only in a mode that is suitable for delicate washing... This can be Wool, Delicate or Hand wash.

It is categorically impossible to wash sneakers on a long cycle, it should not exceed 40 minutes. For washing suede models, a temperature of 30-40 ° C is best suited, no more.

It is highly undesirable to fall asleep powder during such washing, since each powder detergent contains particles, due to which the laundry is bleached. These very particles can harm your sneakers. Therefore, the use of traditional powder and, moreover, bleach should be abandoned. Pour liquid soap, laundry gel, or any other liquid detergent into the tray.

Some modern models of washing machines have special modes for washing sports shoes.

As for the "Spin" mode, it can also damage the shoes... Not so much the suede fabric itself, but the solidity of the sole. Therefore, you need to set either the minimum amount of revolution during spinning, or abandon it altogether.

If you do not want to damage the integrity of the surface of the product, then it is better to wash each sneaker separately. And it is better to do it in a special bag for washing. If there is no such bag in the house, then you can put it together in the drum, for example, a towel. It will soften the impact of shoes on the drum, thereby preventing damage to the washing machine.

Once your sneakers have been washed, they need to be properly dried so they don't deform. As you already know, this cannot be done on a battery or electric heater. Also, you should not dry your shoes with a hairdryer, as many girls try to do, which finally spoil the appearance of sneakers.

Stuff the shoes with clean white paper. As soon as it gets wet, it needs to be replaced with dry, clean paper. This process will have to be repeated several times to get rid of moisture as quickly and efficiently as possible.

It is best to dry your shoes in a draft if it is a warm season, but not in the open sun. In cold weather, it will be enough that the product is simply dried in a warm place.
