Wool is one of those natural materials from which very cozy and warm products are created. During the day, you can sit in front of the TV or with a book, wrapped in a woolen blanket, and at night, woolen blankets will give you their warmth and the opportunity to have healthy dreams.

Advantages and disadvantages

Some people often have unpleasant memories when they mention wool. Earlier, Soviet blankets made of natural wool were really tough and "biting". Nowadays, products made from 100% wool do not look like blankets from the times of the USSR, they differ only in the most positive properties.

Wool will keep warm well. Woolen clothes are often used on flights by cosmonauts, on trips by polar explorers, and most often by ordinary people in everyday life. Wool is able to perfectly absorb moisture and give it back (it has the highest degree of hygroscopicity among other materials). All season woolen blankets will be extremely healthy:

  • neutralize the positive electrical charge on the body, giving back its negative;
  • will help to increase immunity, perfectly treat colds, otitis media, sinusitis;
  • soothe the nerves, give a feeling of comfort and serenity;
  • relieve pain in various diseases;
  • reduce puffiness, help against frostbite;
  • help regulate metabolism, improve blood circulation;
  • effectively cure prickly heat in young children;
  • suitable for healthy lifestyle supporters, athletes recovering from workouts, treating muscle sprains.

However, these products also have some drawbacks.

  • High degree of allergenicity. If you are allergic to animal protein, these products will not work for you.
  • Short shelf life when compared with other materials.Woolen items are very quickly caked, and therefore their service life will not exceed 10 years.
  • Very difficult types of care. Many blankets are not machine washable.

Often for this reason, housewives prefer dry cleaning. Some models can be washed by hand, but only with the use of special products to preserve the properties of the wool.

Varieties

Woolen blankets will vary in shape as well as in how they are made and in density. According to the density of the product, there are:

  • lungs (100-200 g / m 2);
  • lightweight (universal, 200-300 g / m 2);
  • standard (300-400 g / m 2).

Sometimes you can find heavy products with a density of up to 800 g / m 2. Products with a high density are warmer, but at the same time much heavier.

Woven

Soft blankets with exposed wool are great for summer. They are thinner, lighter and not as warm as closed items. They provide direct skin contact with natural wool, which is very beneficial for health. These kind of blankets can be double-sided (more expensive options) - this is when there is woven wool from 2 sides. Single-sided models differ in such a coating on only one side. Their base will be made of textiles, usually satin or polycotton.

Fur

They are made from wool of different animals.

  • Camel. The wool of a camel or a yak will perfectly allow air to pass through, which means that a person will not sweat at night. The coat tingles slightly, thus providing a gentle massage. This product will protect against harmful electromagnetic interference.
  • Sheep. Under a blanket of this kind, the skin will breathe calmly. Wool helps relieve tension, muscle pain, and improves blood flow. Under this thick coating, you can easily fully regain your strength in 1 night.
  • Cashmere (goat hair) blankets. This hypoallergenic product is suitable for both adults and kids. Dry heat, which it is able to form, perfectly removes the signs of rheumatic disease and osteochondrosis.
  • Llama wool products. They are considered the lightest and most healing. The wool of llamas perfectly relieves pain.
  • Alpaca wool blankets. Products are also distinguished by medicinal properties. Scientists have long proven that such wool improves mental and emotional state, normalizes blood pressure, reduces irritability and reduces joint pain. Such blankets have high air permeability - there are air cushions between the wool fibers, which guarantee a high-quality air flow. Such products are 6-7 times warmer, 3 times lighter and 2-3 times stronger than sheep's wool due to its structure. The main advantages: excellent thermoregulation, healing properties, hygroscopicity, long service life and resistance to wear.

Quilted

Experienced laymen call a quilted two-layer blanket the warmest. Usually, natural cotton material is used for sewing its outer side (cover). Inside the blanket there is a woolen (down) filler that has undergone a special treatment against possible parasites.

Quilts usually have a seam pattern. The best way to sew with squares is to distribute the wool evenly throughout the garment. Products sewn in parallel rows are also a fairly popular option, although not as durable as “squares”.

Dimensions (edit)

If you have a one-bed bed, a 1.5-bed or one-bed product with a width of 140 cm or more will suit you. When choosing a product, you must consider your own height. If it is about 2 m, then the size of the product should start from the mark of 200X220 cm.

Couples can pay attention to double products. Ideally, it is best to purchase 2 one-and-a-half wool blankets that will match the specific wishes of each spouse. There is a chic selection of products on sale today. Another popular option is euro size products (with a width of 200 cm).

Manufacturers overview

When purchasing a quality woolen product, pay attention to the manufacturer. Textile factories producing woolen blankets and other accessories must have a good reputation. There is a list of the most famous domestic and import companies.

  • Primavelle. The Russian brand Primavelle will be able to boast of the best choice of woolen fillers; its catalog contains products from kashgora (goat) and alpaca, yak and merino wool, and sheep. To create covers, the company often chooses natural fabrics of the best European quality.

For certain models of its blankets, the company resorts to the use of a unique impregnation with silver or aloe vera ions, which has a positive effect on sleep.

  • "Spartacus". Russian-made blankets are made from natural materials, for this reason, when buying a product, you do not have to worry about the high quality of the wool used.
  • Belarusian company "Lanatex" offers a huge assortment of both inexpensive and truly elite woolen blankets. The company is careful to ensure that only the highest quality raw materials are supplied to it.
  • Another Belarusian brand ANGELLINI in the manufacture of its products, it fully retains all the useful properties of wool, and therefore its products are deservedly in high demand.
  • Erdenet company (Erdenet) is located in Mongolia and manufactures quilts using only the most sustainable fillers. Their products are hypoallergenic and will not irritate the skin. How to care?

When leaving, you should adhere to the recommendations.

  • Wool blankets can be washed only at a certain temperature, choosing the most delicate programs in the washing machine, using special products. At the same time, it is worth knowing that there are such woolen blankets that you should not wash in a machine or manually on your own - it is better to entrust this process to dry cleaning.
  • Whether this blanket can be washed will be indicated on the product label. If the blanket can be washed, the detergent should be made specifically for the wool. His choice depends on how the washing will be done.
  • For washing in an automatic washing machine, it is best to use gels, since they dissolve well without damaging the structure of the fibers, and are easier to wash out of the fabric.
  • For cleaning at home by hand, both special gels and special washing powders are used.
  • Dry cleaning of woolen products is cleaning with a brush with a very soft bristle or special foam. Light stains can be gently removed by rubbing slightly over them with a soft brush.
  • You can also clean wool by wiping it with a clean, damp cloth. After complete drying, the pile must be combed to restore its lush volume.

When you cannot get rid of the contamination, you need to wash the bedspread or call for a dry cleaning service.

How to choose the best?

When making a choice, some criteria are taken into account.

  • When choosing a suitable blanket for yourself, you should first carefully consider its label, which will indicate the name of the manufacturer, its legal address, the composition of the filler used and the fabric from which the cover is made, and also there should be tips for washing the product.
  • To make the woolen blanket as comfortable to use as possible, it is best to be wider than your bed.
  • You also need to consider what kind of product you want to get. Woolen blankets are available both in a cover filled with a certain type of wool, and in the form of a warm universal blanket.
  • An important criterion for the selection of the perfect blanket is its purpose - the product can be actively used only in summer, only in winter, or at any time of the year. Blankets will differ only by the percentage of wool in them.

A summer blanket will be the lightest and not too hot. If you want to choose a blanket for yourself for the cold winter, thick camel or alpaca blankets will be the right option.
