Sizes and selection of "Euro" blankets
The market today offers a wide range of bedding sets for a comfortable stay. If you like when there is enough space, and you have a large bed, then it is appropriate to purchase an oversized blanket. We will tell in the publication about the features of euro blankets, the size range, and how to choose such a product.
Peculiarities
European standard blankets are, first of all, very large items in comparison with the traditional blankets we are used to. They differ in sewing technology, and, depending on the manufacturing method, the following euro blankets are distinguished:
- quilted;
- cassette;
- with karostep finishing.
More durable and better quality - cassette. They are warm (this indicator is better than that of other types of similar products), the filler does not "get lost", but is evenly kept in the squares-cells. But such a blanket is not cheap either. Quilts are sewn using the simplest technology, so they are inexpensive, but not the best in quality either. The filler can form lumps, which leads to the formation of cold zones in the product; sleeping under such a blanket is not very comfortable, especially in winter.
A variation of carostep is when the stitches are in a cross or in the form of a figure of eight, there may be a different pattern. Such blankets are effective, but only at the beginning, over time they also lose their functionality and appearance.
The main feature of Euro blankets, which determines the thickness, weight, level of thermal conductivity, is the material (including filler) used in sewing.
Let's consider the most popular options.
- From wool - warm blankets, "breathe", if you properly care for such products, they will last a long time. The filler is made of camel wool, sheep wool, and tanned goatskin is also found.For winter, I release weighted options, for the warm season - lighter ones, reminiscent of a blanket.
- Out of the fluff - voluminous blankets, they are given airiness by goose down or eider down. The ideal option is to sleep under such items in cold weather. But they are quite capricious in their care, they absorb moisture and can cause allergies.
- Silk - expensive blankets, since the silk is created by the threads of the silkworm caterpillars, and this is a very laborious process. Silk blankets are very light and pleasant to the body, they can be covered with them all year round. They are durable and keep warm depending on temperature, humidity and airflow. There is one drawback - such textiles are easy to forge by adding other impurities to the main thread.
- Cotton wool - cotton products, warm (they are not recommended to hide in the heat) and environmentally friendly. Such blankets are inexpensive, unpretentious in maintenance, but cotton wool is able to absorb moisture, various odors and form lumps.
- Made of synthetic materials - not so warm, but light and cheap products. For sewing such blankets, acrylic, polyester, holofiber with a porous structure and other types of synthetics are used. Allergy sufferers can hide with these blankets, they have high levels of hygiene, they do not need special care, they do not "absorb" odors and serve for a long time. There are several drawbacks to synthetic blankets: they are electrified, have low levels of hygroscopicity, air permeability and heat retention.
All variations are produced in standard Euro parameters for blankets, therefore, depending on the size of the bed and the wishes of the buyer, you can choose a European standard blanket for the desired season.
Standard parameters
The concept of a standard in modern life is somewhat vague, nevertheless, as for the all-season blankets of the Eurostandard series, the most suitable size (universal) is 200x220 cm, if the size is slightly larger, this is already EuroMaxi.
The standard euro size (200x220 cm) is the most popular size for euro blankets; it is easy to find the right duvet cover for it. Bed linen manufacturers sew covers for such blankets 5 centimeters larger and with the ability to tuck it through the side cutout - this is much more convenient and you can quickly cope with the change of linen.
Length
The concept of a standard is becoming more and more blurred, and sometimes manufacturers deviate from the universal size and sew 215, 230, 240 and even 260 centimeters in length.
Width
Accordingly, in width - 230, 240 and also 260 centimeters. More and more interest for buyers is represented by square copies - euro blankets 220x220 cm and 240x240 cm. In general, the length and width are selected taking into account the size of the mattress, including the dimensions of the height. On the product label, there must be a set of numbers indicating the length and width. Not in all countries these figures are given in centimeters (this is done by Russian manufacturers, manufacturers of the CIS and some European countries), the majority of Europeans who sew European blankets indicate the sizes in inches.
This designation is a little unusual for us, because 1 inch in centimeters is equal to 2.54 cm. It is not so quickly possible to translate length and width in inches - in centimeters, nevertheless, this is not very difficult. The main thing here is that the product is still of the same quality and would be liked by the buyer.
Euromaxi dimensions
Anything more than two meters wide is already the size of the Euromaxi. Standard size "euro +" 220x240 cm - "royal" blanket. Such a product is for tall people who sleep on beds more than 180 cm wide. In fact, these are already three-sleeping places. Sometimes in the Euromaxi series you can find a non-standard version - 260x240 cm (more often 240x240 and 240x260 cm) - this is when the bed is wider than in length, and up to 4 people can sleep freely under such a blanket. You can find a blanket on such an “airfield” bed, but it is more difficult to find a blanket cover for this product.
Fans of wide open spaces either have to choose non-standard size demi-season products that do not require a cover, or look for bed linen with an Euromaxi duvet cover.
In most cases, you have to order a duvet cover for such blankets.
How are they different from double quilts?
Blankets of the "Eurostandard" category are, first of all, large in size. Today, thanks to this standard, you can buy a blanket for a bed of any size in width and length. Let's note some differences between “euro” blankets and double blankets.
- Expand your personal comfort zone while relaxing. Allows two people of great weight and tall to take cover freely.
- Variety of models: in the Eurostandard category there is more choice in terms of filler, in terms of the structure of the material for the surface. Various designs and color solutions make Euro duvets attractive to consumers.
- They allow you to fill the largest beds, acting as bedspreads, create coziness and comfort in the bedroom.
- For each standard of "euro" blankets, you can find the appropriate size of bed linen (duvet covers strictly correspond to the size of the blankets).
Of course, Euro blankets are more expensive than double pieces, which is understandable: the costs are higher, but if you choose convenience and comfort, it's worth it.
Selection Tips
With a plethora of choices, it is very important to buy the right model. In order for a Euro-size blanket to fit, you need to measure the dimensions of the sleeping bed, taking into account the height of the mattress. It will be right to choose a product that is slightly larger in width and length than the measurements obtained. In this case, you are provided with comfort and convenience. Let's outline some criteria and principles of the correct choice of a Euro blanket.
- Decide - one large or two smaller blankets you need, it depends on the coincidence of sleep patterns. Under one there is better air circulation and the body "breathes". But if your sleep pattern does not match that of your partner, then it is better to get two smaller ones.
- Choose according to the size of the bed - the right blanket will be 30 or even 40 centimeters wider than these sizes. If this indicator is half a meter or more, then it will hang down due to its own weight, and you can hardly pull it.
- Consider the height and weight (yours and your partner's) - the blanket should be at least 30 centimeters larger than the tallest person lying on the bed. But how to determine the width? Partners sleeping next to each other should lie on their backs, spread their arms and close their elbows. A distance of 180 cm to 250 cm is normal.
- It is necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of the partners' sleep: for someone the feeling of closeness is important, someone sleeps in the "asterisk" position, someone often turns over in a dream, or, on the contrary, is lightly asleep.
- Look in advance for the required size of the cover, you may have to sew a duvet cover to order or buy it at retail. Then choose the right tone of the set, if you cannot find the color of the sheets and pillowcases.
When choosing a “euro” blanket, pay attention to the following qualities of the product:
- the fabric of the cover should be durable, preferably hypoallergenic, not electrified and easy to wash;
- carefully examine the product by touch - feel the seams, inspect the lines, track the uniformity of the color;
- examine the blanket for defects, pills, various specks, protruding threads, and so on.
Trust a reputable manufacturer and buy their product. Discuss with the seller the option of exchanging goods (this can be done within 2 weeks from the date of purchase) if a defect is found, or if the blanket does not fit your bed (sofa).
And be sure to check that the label of the textile product contains all the necessary information, including recommendations for care, what kind of filler and information on sewing technology, because the performance properties of such large blankets will depend on this.
