How to make an ombre at home?
Dyeing using the ombre technique gives the appearance an expressiveness and originality. By and large, there is no need for a hairstyle with such a coloring - the play of color is good in itself. Is it possible to make an ombre at home?
Features of technology
Ombre is an original technique for dyeing hair in two colors with a transition from one tone to another. There are different options for ombre: from roots to tips, a dark tone can turn into a light tone or a light tone can turn into a dark one.
It is acceptable when any natural tone turns into a bright, unexpected color (pink, blue, green, purple). Moreover, if during the transition of one natural tone to another, the border is certainly blurred, then in the case of a transition to a bright unusual tone, it can be expressed very sharply.
Additional advantages of the transition of a dark tone to a light one consist in some effect of burnt hair, and also allow you to make a little trick: with a dark tone, close enough to your own, you can increase the time between colors, since regrown roots will be hardly noticeable.
Carrying out ombre staining on your own is no more difficult than usual. Let's consider this process in detail.
Preparation of funds and materials
For coloring you will need:
- clarifier;
- selected paint;
- container for preparing paint (bowl);
- comb;
- latex gloves;
- brush for applying paint;
- a brush for applying a clarifier;
- food foil;
- hair clips or elastic bands;
- shampoo;
- conditioner (balm).
The foil should be cut into strips of about 10 centimeters.
The length of the stripes should be several centimeters longer than the stained area.
The choice of materials for painting is quite diverse. It will simplify the task of purchasing a set for ombre, in which the necessary components have already been selected in the right proportions, as well as detailed instructions for them. The disadvantages of this method may be an increased price (for convenience) and the lack of the desired color on sale.
In the salon, blondoran is often used, which also requires the purchase of an oxidizing agent.
There is a risk of overdoing it with concentration, so it is recommended to leave the choice of this procedure to professionals.
The simplest and most gentle option is a dye for light hair, containing a clarifier. The contrast will not work, but the hair will be healthier.
How to do it?
Let's describe the step-by-step process of dyeing in 2 colors at home. To begin with, we note that it is better not to wash your head before staining, and even better - to do it 2 days before the procedure.
- Having prepared all the necessary products, you need to comb thoroughly and slightly moisturize your hair. Then divide the entire volume of hair into a parted part, divide each part again using a clip or an elastic band. Similarly, we get 4 tails - 2 on each side of the face.
If your hair is thick, you need to make more ponytails.
- Now we are preparing the clarifier: without forgetting to put on gloves, mix the ingredients in a bowl according to the instructions on the package. If you decide to lighten with blondoran, then add 2 times more oxidant by volume than blondoran. The mass should be homogeneous and without lumps.
- We apply the clarifier using a brush, which is usually included in the coloring kit. Starting from the ends of the strands, we move from the bottom to the top, slightly not reaching the elastic, trying to apply the composition evenly. It should be painted quickly so that the clarifier does not have time to dry out. The whole procedure should take 10-15 minutes.
Some masters advise to pre-twist the strands into bundles in order to make the border between the lightened and unlightened areas more blurred.
- Then we wrap each tail in foil as follows: put the strand in the middle of the foil lengthwise, wrap it from the edges, and fold the bottom edge up and on the sides so that the foil does not slip. We keep it for about 30-40 minutes.
- Remove the foil, rinse off the clarifier and reapply it - now 5 centimeters higher. We wait about 10 minutes and wash the hair again.
- Lighten the ends of the hair with the last. We put a clarifier on them, rinse off after 10 minutes. Then I wash my head with shampoo and balm.
If you have little experience in order not to overexpose the clarifier, it is recommended to check if the desired tone is obtained. It is necessary to look at a small lock after 20 minutes. If you are satisfied with the color, wash off the clarifier from all over your hair. If a shade is required lighter, wait another 10 minutes and check the result again.
Another secret is that after removing the bleach, the hair should be dyed with a light dye containing care components (vitamins, oil) to make the transition look more natural. It will also give your hair the nourishment it needs. All modern paints contain nutrients, so there is no need to recommend a specific brand.
After lightening, the hair must be properly dried before proceeding directly with the dyeing. It is good if you let them dry naturally.
- The hair must be divided into strands again and collected in ponytails. It is advisable to twist into bundles. The more ponytails you make, the more natural the transition will look.
- Putting on gloves, we dilute the paint, exactly following the instructions. We remember about airing the room.
- Apply paint from bottom to top with a paint brush. The paint should cover the entire lightened area and go a little beyond the border with the unclarified one. This will achieve a smooth color transition.
- We keep the paint for as long as indicated on the package. The effect will be better if you wear a special hat or cover your head with cellophane.
- We wash off the paint with warm water. Keep in mind that you must also do this with gloves. Then the gloves can be removed, and the head is washed with shampoo for colored hair, using a regenerating balm.
This is a general staining technique, universal for those who decide to do this procedure at home. Now let's look at the features of dyeing hair of different lengths.
For short hair
We divide the hair into strands and paint with a brush from the bottom up from the ends. On short haircuts, the border of coloration is usually at the middle of the ear. We keep each colored strand wrapped in foil for about half an hour - as written on the package. Then we remove the foil, rinse the head with shampoo for colored hair and dry it with a hairdryer.
Now we tint the roots. We apply paint to the roots and use a comb to distribute it in such a way as to capture the already painted areas. Thus, we get a smooth transition from one color to another. We hold the paint for about 20 minutes, then rinse it off, wash the head again with shampoo and balm, and then let the curls dry.
For long
Long hair is the most suitable option for an ombre, as the transition looks especially natural. The length makes it possible to diversify the dyeing techniques - use not the classic 2 colors, but 3 or even more. You can paint diagonally, you can select individual strands. On long curls, the border of staining usually runs at the level of the chin.
Moisten the hair, divide it into 4 tails, then paint from the ends of the tails from bottom to top, slightly below the elastic. We wrap it in foil, as described earlier, and keep it for 30 minutes, depending on the instructions. Wash my head and dry it. Then you can tint the roots as described for short hair.
On average
Ombre for medium hair is especially recommended for long bobs, bob bobs and similar haircuts. A stylish haircut looks especially impressive in unusual colors, for example, white with crimson. The elongated side strands, painted in a bright color, look stylish. When cutting medium length, by highlighting the lower part of the hair, the natural fading of the strands is imitated.
The ombre technique will also help to correct the shape of the face, in the classic style (dark top, light bottom), painting makes the face more elongated, thinner. The haircut option with bangs makes it possible to highlight the bangs - for example, by coloring its ends.
When distributing the dyeing time along the length of the hair, it should be borne in mind that the dye should be kept at the first stage of dyeing for 5 minutes longer than at the next, so a smooth color transition is achieved.
There are many methods of dyeing, differing in the choice of materials and technology. You can, for example, color your hair in 3 stages, highlighting them one by one. The strands should be moistened, the brightened area should be visually divided into 3 parts. The first section is kept in foil for 20 minutes, the other two - for 10 minutes each.
The transitions to a different tone will be smoother if you use a comb instead of a staining brush.
For light and dark hair, the dyeing technique is not much different. The main difference is in the color and concentration of the oxidizing agent when using blondoran. For light hair, oxidizing agents are recommended from 3 to 6%, and for dark hair from 9 to 12%. In addition, some bright, unusual color looks spectacular on light hair.
For brunettes, there are 4 especially popular ombre coloring methods.
- Classic (in two tones), in which dark strands smoothly turn into light ones.
- Imitation of regrown roots, when the black color turns into a light one, rather high, in the region of the temples.
- Three-color staining, and with a pronounced border. Non-standard colors look impressive, especially in bright brunettes.
- Selective ombre, highlighting individual strands or bangs.
Consider the process of self-coloring dark hair. In this case, it is recommended to choose an ombre paint 2 tones lighter. Any shades of caramel or milky color are good for contrast. You can also try the coppery color.
Following the instructions, we dilute the paint in a bowl, then comb the hair and divide it into separate strands. We apply the paint from the ends, from bottom to top, approximately to the middle of the area that will be painted. We keep the strands wrapped in foil for 20 minutes. Then the paint must be washed off, and the head must be blotted with a towel.
The next application of paint - from the ends to the border of staining, now we hold the paint for 15 minutes. Rinse off again. The next step is to darken the top of the hair from the roots. Apply the paint to the roots with a brush and then pull it out to the border with the lightened area. Let's wait 10 minutes and wash my head with balm. Then let the hair dry.
Blonde hair gives a lot of room for imagination and experimentation with different colors. The classic ombre assumes lightening, giving the effect of burnt hair. But the opposite is also possible - darkening the lower part of the hair and the so-called effect of regrown roots. Making it to yourself is easy.
For light hair, the dye is usually chosen 2 shades darker. Having prepared the necessary materials, it is necessary to dilute the paint as written on the package, apply it to the roots and wait 15 minutes. Now, on top of the first layer of paint, apply another layer of paint to the roots and extend it with a comb to the expected border of staining. Wait another 10 minutes.
The border can be made straight or run diagonally - this is achieved with hair ties that secure the hair in the ponytails and form the desired line. After washing off the paint and slightly drying your head with a towel, you can tint the ends of the hair again if the desired effect is not achieved. After waiting 20 minutes, wash your head with balm and dry it.
Often doubts arise as to whether it is possible to make an ombre for dyed hair, especially dark hair. If you are already a pro in the field of dyeing with your own hands, and you thoroughly know the features of your hair and dyes that you always use, then you will surely achieve the desired result. But if you are a beginner, then it should be borne in mind that the interaction of paints sometimes gives unexpected effects, so it is best to entrust the procedure to an experienced master.
And if you are in favor of experimenting, then it is worth remembering that dyed hair should be discolored first.
Advice
The ombre technique gives the effect of increasing the volume of the hair, and thanks to a wide range of colors and methods of their application, it suits absolutely any face and is possible on any hair length. However, some tips will not be superfluous.
- When choosing a paint, it is recommended to give preference to natural dyes, professional paints or well-known manufacturers.
- Carefully read the instructions on the paint package and strictly follow it, otherwise you can ruin your hair.
- When buying paint, the first thing you need to pay attention to is that the paint should not contain ammonia. Ammonia-free dyes are safer for the hair structure and help preserve their natural beauty.
- Before coloring, it is recommended to cut the ends of the hair, otherwise they may split after coloring and spoil the impression of the procedure.
- The room in which the staining is carried out must be well ventilated, including during the procedure.
- Do not forget to protect your clothes from accidental paint splashes - it is better to put on some old T-shirt or robe that you do not mind.
- It is advisable to dry your hair naturally after coloring.
- If there is a fear of a risky experiment, you can start with dyeing the ends of your hair.
- After staining, you should wash your hair no more often than every other day, and ideally every 3-4 days.
- The color may fade or gradually wash off, this is corrected with a tonic or shampoo of a suitable shade.
- Dry your hair with a hairdryer, preferably less often.It is better not to carry out other thermal procedures (curling or straightening) at least in the first month after dyeing. It is necessary to allow the hair to recover from the transferred stress, which ombre, undoubtedly, is even in a gentle version.
- For yellowed hair ends, you can apply a purple tint shampoo - it will give an interesting ash tint.
- The uneven color border gives the transition a naturalness, therefore, in natural shades, you should not try to comply with it too strictly.
- On damaged hair, ombre, like any coloring, is not recommended. First you need to heal the curls.
- An ombre renewal is required in 3-6 months.
