How to make origami in the form of a rook?
Rooks traditionally symbolize the arrival of spring, because they are migratory birds, and with the arrival of warmth they return from the south. A paper rook will be a wonderful craft for kindergarten pupils, which can be timed to coincide with the end of winter. Such birds are very simple to fold, so none of the kids will experience serious difficulties in the process of making crafts.
What is necessary?
To craft "Rook" using origami technique, you need a square sheet of colored paper in dark shades and scissors. If you wish, you can draw eyes for the birds, then white and black gouache will be needed for crafts. Or you can go further and buy special small plastic eyes in the store for creativity, then the pupils of the rooks will move.
Assembly diagram
Origami "Rook" is quite simple, so it will not be difficult for children aged 5-6 to make such a craft on their own. A bird is made step by step from paper as follows.
-
A square sheet of dark paper is placed diagonally, that is, so that one corner is directed up, the other down, and the other two to the sides.
-
The sheet is folded along, from the top corner to the bottom, and straightened again. This is necessary to outline the fold - the middle of the sheet.
-
The two upper sides should be folded towards the middle so that their bottom forms a straight line.
-
Further, the lower sides must also be folded towards the middle and unbent again - outline a fold.
-
Along this fold, you need to cut the craft to the place where the second layer of paper is layered - these will be the legs and tail of the rook.
-
The structure must be folded in half diagonally - along the line that was outlined at the beginning.
-
Now you need to form the beak. To do this, pull the corner of the upper (whole) part down and slightly outward. It should bend in the opposite direction to the entire craft. Rooks have a long beak, so the corner should be large.
-
Now you need to make paws for the birds. To do this, two tips, cut off from the bottom, need to be bent forward through the inside of the craft.
The paper rook is ready! Now you can draw or glue eyes on him, and he will become just like a real one!
A paper rook can be made in another way. This requires a square sheet of black paper and eye paint. This bird will seem to be pecking at something, so if it is glued to paper, then it is advisable to draw seeds or worms next to it.
-
Place a square sheet of paper with one of the sides facing you. Then you need to bend it diagonally from one corner to another.
-
A couple of centimeters should retreat from the fold and bend the upper triangle back forward. Such a fold, by the way, is called a “zipper warehouse”. You should get a square slightly smaller than the sheet was originally.
-
The small corners on the sides of the two main triangles need to be bent up so that their edge goes very close to the side of the lower triangle, but does not go into it, otherwise the craft will look sloppy. These little bent triangles will be the rook's legs.
-
Now the craft needs to be turned over, and bent diagonally from one corner of the square to the other. You should get a design of three triangles: large (body and head), medium (tail), and small (legs). The bird needs to be turned with its legs towards you.
-
Next, you should make a beak for the rook. To do this, you need to bend the upper corner of the larger triangle inward, and then pull it out. An origami rook pecking grain is ready!
Helpful hints
From many such crafts, you can make a real panel by drawing the branches of the trees on which the rooks sit, or food for them. This is a great option for collective crafts for the entire kindergarten group, while signing each bird separately.
Bird eyes can be made from a wide variety of materials. The easiest way is to draw them in white and black gouache, or you can cut them out of paper and stick them on the craft.
You can glue the rooks with plastic eyes, which are easy to buy in stationery stores or in creative goods.
For origami work, it is better not to use coated paper, as it glows, which will not look good on dark crafts.
And it is also better to take paper painted on both sides, because some crafts show the reverse side of the paper.
