Origami is an ancient art form popular with both adults and children. Of particular interest for lovers of this type of creativity is modular origami. In this technique, you can create not only simple figures, but also volumetric vases or paintings.

What it is?

Modular origami involves creating crafts from triangles of the same size. Paper modules are usually prepared in advance. It is best to use double-sided colored paper to create them.

Usually, figurines from modules are assembled without the use of glue. It is used only to create especially complex and voluminous crafts.

How to make a module?

Learning to make triangular modules out of paper is quite simple. First, a standard A4 sheet of paper must be folded in half. After that, it is folded again. Along the fold lines, the paper is cut into small rectangles. This can be done with a clerical knife or scissors. Then you should start forming small modules from colored paper.

  1. A small piece needs to be bent and turned over.
  2. After that, the workpiece must be bent in half in width again. This is done in order to outline the fold line.
  3. The resulting part must be unbent back.
  4. Both sides must be carefully folded down.
  5. The edges of the resulting triangle must be ironed.
  6. Next, the base of the figure must be bent in half.
  7. Bend the edges of the parts protruding from the bottom up.
  8. The triangle must be carefully unfold, and then turned over with an acute angle downward.
  9. Fold the protruding corners to the opposite side.
  10. The lower part must be unbent. At the same time, the corners must remain bent.
  11. Then the lower part must be lifted up.
  12. The resulting figure needs to be bent in half. There will be small pockets on it, in which other modules are placed.

To connect such parts together, the corners are inserted into neat pockets.

Details are easily fixed to each other.

Folding original crafts

Having learned how to make simple modules, you can start creating three-dimensional figures from them. There are many interesting schemes that are suitable for both children and adults.

Swan

The volumetric figure of a bird can be made from white or multi-colored parts. To create the base, you will need to make 458 identical modules. The craft creation process consists of the following steps.

  1. The first step is to start assembling the body of the swan. The first row is made of 30 triangles. They are located with sharp edges outward.
  2. The next two rows do the same. But the parts are fastened with the short side outward.
  3. The resulting workpiece is connected into a volumetric circle.
  4. Further, in the same way, the next two rows are fastened. The finished base is carefully turned inside out. At this stage, the detail resembles a volumetric bowl.
  5. Above is another row of 30 modules.
  6. After that, you can start forming the wings. A small gap should be left at the base of the bowl. The neck will be located there.
  7. On the left and right sides of this opening, 12 modules are attached.
  8. Further, the wings continue to be assembled according to a simple principle: at each next level, the number of modules used decreases. This allows the wings to be sharpened. The last row should consist of one module.
  9. Finished wings need to be carefully bent.
  10. The tail of a swan is attached to the back of the figure. They do it according to the same principle as the wings. This makes the tail narrower.
  11. Glue is used to create the swan's neck. 31 modules are interconnected. To make the neck look more natural, it must be gently bent.
  12. Having attached this detail to the body of the swan, it must be decorated with a sharp red beak. The edges of the part must be connected together with glue.

The finished bird can be placed on a small pedestal. This will make it more stable.

Chick

The origami scheme for creating such a bird is suitable for beginners. To work, you need to prepare 207 white or yellow parts, as well as 6 modules for paws, a ridge and a beak. After that, you can get down to business.

  1. First of all, you need to assemble a ring from 16 parts. 6 more such rows are attached to the base. All of them are fixed with the long side forward.
  2. The next row also consists of 16 parts. But they are already attached with the short side forward.
  3. Next, 4 rows are fixed according to the same principle as the first 7.
  4. When creating the last row, only 10 modules are used. Each part is attached immediately to 2 or 3 corners of the parts of the lower row. The base needs to be gently squeezed, making it more rounded.
  5. From the remaining parts, narrow wings are assembled. They are fixed to the base with glue.
  6. Red paws are attached to the lower part of the body. To the top is a scarlet crest.

When the figure is ready, it remains to attach the beak and eyes to it.

chamomile

Such a pretty chamomile can be a great gift for a loved one. The scheme for creating this flower is as follows.

  1. First you need to collect the base of the craft. For this, 18 modules are used. They are attached with the short side out.
  2. The second row is done in the same way, and then attached to the first. But the modules must be fixed with the long side out. Next, the third row of parts is attached to the base.
  3. Modules of a different color are used to create the fourth row. The base is usually yellow and the edges white.
  4. After that, you can move on to creating longer petals. 7 modules are attached to each of them. First, one piece is attached to the base. The second row consists of two modules, the third one consists of one. Rows 4 and 5 repeat the previous ones.
  5. Other petals are formed according to the same principle.

The finished flower must be turned over and attached to the stem.

Dragonfly

To create a figurine, 63 color modules are used. They can be either monochromatic or multi-colored. The process of creating a figurine consists of the following stages.

  1. First you need to connect the two modules together. The second workpiece is done in the same way.
  2. Three more modules must be attached to these two parts.
  3. Insert one additional piece into the side pockets of the last row. Wings will be attached to them later.
  4. 2 more modules are attached to the basis of the craft.
  5. The next row already consists of 3 parts. One more workpiece must be inserted into the side pockets of these modules.
  6. Two modules are attached to the fifth row, and then another one. The body of a dragonfly is slightly pointed.
  7. Then you can start assembling one wing. For this purpose, 8 modules are used. The first two parts are interconnected in a simple manner. The right corner fits in the right pocket.
  8. By the same principle, the rest of the modules are attached to the base of the wing.
  9. The second wing is done in the same way.
  10. Next, you need to make 2 more thin wings.
  11. Putting the blanks aside, you should start assembling the tail. To do this, the individual modules are simply nested within each other. All parts can be additionally fixed with glue. When the tail is ready, it must be carefully curved.
  12. From the two remaining modules, you need to make a dragonfly mustache, bending them slightly.
  13. Now you can start assembling the craft. Two wings must be attached to each side of the figure. A long tail should be attached to the back of the figure, a curled mustache should be attached to the top.

Even a schoolboy can make such a figure with his own hands.

Strawberry

You can easily make a volumetric strawberry figurine from the modules. To create it, 59 pink or red details are used, as well as 7 green ones. It is done as follows.

  1. To create the first three rows, you need to connect 13 red modules each.
  2. The resulting detail is neatly closed in a circle. The workpiece must be turned inward.
  3. The fourth row is also made of 13 modules, but the fifth row is already made of 7.
  4. Then the strawberries just need to turn over and attach 7 green modules to it, which will play the role of foliage.

The craft is simple but cute.

Using these easy schemes, you can quickly learn how to create beautiful figures and even gifts for your loved ones with your own hands.
