Options for creating origami in the form of a cake
All people love holidays, whether it be New Year, March 8, or just someone's birthday, so questions often arise about what interesting and original decorations for the celebration can be made with your own hands. The main components, of course, are various dishes prepared by the hostess of the house, but by the end of the holiday they lose their attractiveness. Bright paper crafts are a great alternative. For example, origami cakes. In this article, we will tell you several simple ways to make this confectionery product out of paper, including using the modular origami technique.
Simple option
The easiest way to make a paper cake is to fold one sheet using the traditional origami technique, that is, only with folds, without glue and other auxiliary elements. Best of all, such a craft is obtained from one-sided paper or napkin, because such a material perfectly repeats the appearance of natural baked goods: the colored side is dough or mastic, and the white side is sweet cream. To make your craft, you will need a square sheet of paper and a flat surface to create neat folds. A simple diagram and step-by-step instructions for making an origami cake:
-
first, fold the square in half and bend down the front corner so that its tip does not reach the bottom edge 1–2 cm;
-
raise the corner, then lower it and raise it again so that you get the "rim" of the cake;
-
mentally dividing the second corner horizontally in half, create a zigzag fold exactly in the middle and bend the tip down so that it "hugs" the top of the cake;
-
bend the sides, slightly narrowing the shape of the pastry downward.
The craft is ready!

DIY box cake
The technique for making a cake-box is very simple - this method is suitable even for novice needlewomen. To make crafts, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:
-
colored paper (preferably high density);
-
scissors;
-
glue "PVA" or "Moment";
-
simple pencil;
-
ruler;
-
stationery knife;
-
materials for decoration (ribbons, beads, pencils, etc.).
Also, to create a craft, you will need a special template that you can print or draw yourself on an A4 sheet. It makes a piece of cake with the following parameters: length - 12 cm, width - 6 cm, height - 5 cm. If you fold 12 figures out of paper, you get a whole round cake. The product looks equally good both in one color and in a multi-colored version.
Let's take a closer look at the technique of making a box cake.
-
Print or draw yourself on plain paper a template for your future craft, then carefully cut it along the contour.
- Using a pencil and a ruler, transfer the outline of the template onto colored paper, marking fold lines and slots.
-
Cut out the blanks and fold them along the marked lines.
-
Apply glue to the areas indicated in the template and join the product in a triangular box with one side open.
-
To close the box, make a cut along the marked line with a clerical knife and insert the free edge into it.
-
Next, you need to make the pieces of the cake more "appetizing" with decorative elements. For example, you can wrap them in satin ribbon to create a creamy interlayer. Satin ribbon makes cute bows, which also perfectly decorate boxes.
A cake-box is not only a beautiful decoration for a festive table, but also a convenient packaging for sweet gifts to guests.
How to make a modular craft?
Module cakes are large and time consuming crafts. Making them yourself will take a lot of time, patience and perseverance. This method of manufacturing is not suitable for beginners, because in order for the finished product to be neat, it is necessary to fold the modules exactly in size. To make a craft, you will need the following items:
-
colored paper;
-
glue;
-
scissors.
The step-by-step assembly of the product begins with the creation of a certain number of triangular modules. Instructions for creating the elements of this craft consists of the following steps:
-
cut a small rectangle out of paper;
-
fold it in half, first along and then across;
-
straighten the last fold, bend the sides of the workpiece down and bend the lower corners up;
-
fold the figurine in half - this is a ready-made module.
To start performing the master class, you need to prepare modules of different sizes and colors in the following quantity:
-
blanks of ¼ A4 sheet size - 175 pieces of white and 7 pieces of blue;
-
workpieces measuring 1/8 of A4 sheet - 166 pieces of white and 14 pieces of blue;
-
workpieces measuring 1/16 of A4 sheet - 14 pieces of white and 14 pieces of blue;
-
blanks of 1/31 size of A4 sheet - 7 pieces of white and 7 pieces of blue.
Having prepared the necessary elements, proceed to the step-by-step assembly of the modular cake:
-
from 42 white modules of size create a circle, connecting the parts in a checkerboard pattern;
-
close the circle, then turn it over and turn it out;
-
create another row of 42 white pieces, size ¼;
-
attach 7 blue pieces of size, leaving a gap of 10 "legs" of the white modules between them;
-
on each side of the blue parts ¼ on the white modules, attach the blue 1/8 parts;
-
put on the blue 1/16 modules on the sides of the blue 1/8 modules, and on the remaining free white "legs" attach the blue 1/31 pieces;
-
repeat the same procedure, but with white modules - this is the bottom tier of the cake;
-
then collect the upper tier - it is performed in the same technique, but the rows are made up of 22 1/8 pieces;
-
in total in the second tier, collect 4 rows;
-
connect the finished two tiers together - this is the basis of the cake.
It remains only to decorate the modular cake for the festive table - this can be done using paper roses.
Decorations in the form of bows, leaves and even just decorative ribbons dividing the cake into layers look very interesting on a paper product.
