Currently, dog lovers value not only purebred individuals, but also mestizos. For example, a popular variety is a cross between a shepherd dog and a husky. Sometimes a problem puppy comes out of a mixture of such radically opposite breeds, but still more often active, intelligent and friendly dogs are born from a shepherd and a husky.

Description

In most cases, the shepherd's genes win, and the puppy looks more like this particular breed. Differences can be observed in color. In general, it is difficult to know in advance how a mestizo puppy will grow up. Most often it has a large head and a wide forehead, a narrowed fox muzzle, a long and elongated body, straight and muscular legs, a rounded or barrel-shaped chest. The tail can be straight or curved into a ring. The coat of such a dog is dense, and the colors can be very different: from gray to spotted coat.

Eyes also come in any color, sometimes 2 eyes of different colors are present.

Breeding

Often times, puppies are the product of casual love, but there are breeders who deliberately cross between a shepherd and a husky. This is done in order to improve and develop the two breeds. This is a difficult and time-consuming process of compacted inbreeding. You have to wait a long time until the unnecessary gene is supplanted by the genes of other individuals. Often the breeder's task is to obtain second generation mestizos in order to educate outbred individuals of a certain orientation. Some former Soviet republics are specially engaged in breeding mestizos, shepherds and huskies.

The result of mixing two radically different breeds is a powerful, efficient and quick-witted dog. From such individuals, you can raise full-fledged healthy second generation puppies.Sexually mature dogs are bred again with purebreds, splitting the duplicated gene and increasing the desired characteristics of the dog. The fruit of love between a shepherd dog and a husky takes on the best qualities of both parents.

He has both hunting and guarding qualities at the same time, is perfectly trained, easily learns, quickly becomes attached to the owner, becomes a faithful companion. He combines the working qualities of both breeds.

Character

As already mentioned, the character of a dog obtained by crossing two breeds is difficult to predict. But more often than not, a cross between a shepherd dog and a husky is a cheerful, active and loyal dog. Such a dog borrowed loyalty from a shepherd, and cheerfulness and friendliness from a husky. Pronounced service qualities allow the use of mestizos in the service. So, from a shepherd, a puppy gets its search qualities, and from a husky - an excellent scent that helps in hunting.

Usually a husky cannot be kept in an apartment, this breed was created for life in nature, but if a puppy of two mixed breeds appeared in the house, then the living conditions of the apartment would be quite suitable for him, since the shepherd dog is adapted to live in the city. Mestizos have a clear sense of their own dignity. This is an affectionate dog, waiting for attention from the owner, but it will not impose itself. Getting along with other animals is hard to predict.

If the shepherd's genes are stronger, then the puppy adapts well to life in the same apartment with cats. If the genes of the hunting husky won, then problems may arise in the life of two pets.

Such a dog is not particularly picky about the conditions of detention. She will feel comfortable both in the house and in the aviary. Mestizos love physical activity, walks in the woods, and hunting. They are very human-oriented and therefore need frequent communication with the owner. It is an easily trainable animal in terms of training. So, a servile shepherd dog loves to serve its owner and looks forward to the next command, while a self-sufficient husky is difficult to subdue. Metis, in this regard, becomes attentive, obedient, but not intrusive dog.

Care and maintenance

As already noted, mestizo adapts well to any living conditions. In the case of keeping in an apartment for a dog, it is necessary to select its own corner where the pet will rest. If the living conditions allow, it is better to purchase a cage or box for these purposes. The animal needs to provide regular mental and physical activity.

If it is not possible to go hunting, then home training is quite suitable.

Many believe that mestizo are mongrels, which means that you can not pay much attention to nutrition, a strong body will cope with food from the table. However, any dog, even a mongrel, needs a balanced diet. If the dog feeds on ready-made dry food, then it is important to comply with the daily rate.

It is better to seek advice from a veterinarian. He will calculate the correct daily intake depending on the weight, age and health of the individual. It must be premium or super premium food.

When feeding with natural food, it is more difficult to observe the daily amount of BJU and other substances important for health. It is better to consult your doctor again, let him write a menu suitable for a particular dog. Two or three times a week, the animal needs to be combed out, but mestizos do not need bathing, unless, of course, they are very dirty during a walk. A dog obtained from a shepherd crossed with a husky feels comfortable when kept in the open air. It has excellent security qualities and will not let strangers into the house.

But when keeping in the yard, it should be borne in mind that the hunting instincts obtained from the husky can manifest themselves very inappropriately. For example, such a mestizo in the yard can strangle all the owner's chickens.

Laika, unlike a shepherd dog, cannot become a reliable urban companion; it is a working dog that needs to spend a lot of time in nature, learn new smells, and explore the world. She will simply wither away in a city apartment. But the puppy received from the husky and the shepherd dog will perfectly adapt to urban conditions. At the same time, it is important to follow the rules of walking in the city, they are the same for dogs of any large breeds.

  • Take your pet for a walk only on a leash and in a muzzle. The muzzle is used not only for the safety of others, but also to protect the dog itself, which can eat the poison scattered by dog hunters on the road.
  • Make sure that the animal does not pick up anything from the ground. It is recommended from childhood to teach the dog to bypass foreign objects on the street, even if they smell delicious.
  • Remember to bring your excrement bags with you every time you go out.
  • Do not walk your dog on the lawn or playground. It is better to take walks on a special dog playground, which can be found in almost every city.
  • Don't let the animal off the leash in the city. It may, out of curiosity, end up on the roadway or follow a stray pack of dogs. All this threatens the dangers for the pet.
