Raglan sleeve coat
Almost everyone knows the word "raglan" in one way or another, or at least heard it. At least, many will confidently say that "this is something of the clothes." Meanwhile, raglan, which originates, as is often the case with a woman's wardrobe, from a purely masculine, military wardrobe, is a very comfortable cut of the sleeves that will help emphasize the elegance of your style and, if necessary, adjust the shoulder line.
Features and Benefits
A feature of the cut of raglan sleeves is the absence of a shoulder seam, which once allowed military clothing to get less wet in the rain, and now:
- Provides additional freedom of hand when moving. This becomes especially relevant for women with a fairly large volume of arms in the upper part of them, which becomes a problem when buying clothes of their own size, but with a narrow cut of the sleeves.
- Creates a smooth and soft shoulder line that enhances the femininity and sophistication of the silhouette.
The advantages of raglan are that this style of sleeves pAllows you to visually reduce or increase the size of the shoulder girdle in a unique way. If your shoulders are much larger than your hips, then a coat with this cut of the sleeves will help visually smooth out this dissonance. This will also be facilitated by the choice of a cropped coat sleeve with a long turn-down collar in the English style or a shawl collar.
In the case of narrow shoulders, it is preferable to opt for a coat with a raglan sleeve cut with a small collar, a stand-up collar or without a collar.
Ladies with a problematic, in their opinion, breasts, will also be happy with such a cut, since the oblique lines of the seams from the neck to the armhole will wonderfully help the owners of both too large and too small breasts - in either case, they will be satisfied result. Paradoxically, a large raglan breast will visually decrease, and a small one will increase. An even greater effect in this direction can be achieved by choosing a coat whose sleeves are made of fabric in a contrasting color.
Models
Models of coats with raglan sleeves can be conditionally divided into several groups.
By the type of cut of the main part of the coat:
- straight cut;
- flared downwards;
- single-breasted;
- double-breasted;
- with a collar of various styles;
- collarless;
- with a hood.
A coat of any of these types of cut can be supplemented with a belt or worn without it.
By the type of cut of the coat sleeves:
- narrowed downward;
- flared downwards;
- flared sleeve with a wrap;
- hinged with a fastener with several buttons at the top;
The length of the sleeve can also be varied and can be full-length, short, 3/4 or 7/8.
According to the material from which the coat is made:
- From fabric (for warm coats, drape, cashmere are used; for light - tweed, lightweight cashmere, wool, leather, suede; for summer - cotton and jacquard fabrics, jeans, corduroy, velvet; for festive and special occasions - light, airy fabrics, lace).
- From fur (for example, a stylish fur coat knitted from fur strips). Sometimes it is enough just to decorate a raglan coat with fur along the edge of the sleeve and the collar to make the elegance also luxurious.
- Knitted (different types of yarn are used: from boucle to microfiber); with or without lining.
In addition, the coat can be with a full raglan or with a half-raglan sleeve, which is an intermediate option between the set-in sleeve and the raglan sleeve.
Length
A raglan coat of any length - long, medium or short - will look great on you if it is properly cut, tailored to your body and appropriate for the given conditions (season, event, weather, accessories).
Color and print
A coat with raglan sleeves will suit you in any color that suits you personally, in accordance with your color type and taste. As for fashion trends, the trend of the 2016 season is the return of the so-called "active print". Cell, large and small, black and white and color, two or more colors.
The gradient transition from light to dark cells is very fashionable. A raglan coat, the fabric of which is designed in this way, provides additional possibilities for body shaping. And of course, Chanel prints and classic gray, black, beige tones and their shades are always in fashion.
What to wear with?
A raglan coat implies a very feminine presentation of the image, therefore, the rest of the components should be soft and plastic. A-line dresses, straight-cut or tapered skirts (pencil skirt, tulip skirt), trouser suits - everything that adds elegance to the image, and therefore to the hostess. It is also preferable to choose shoes that are not too pretentious. A raglan coat is self-sufficient in itself, so you should not overload the image.
But what it really makes sense to add is beautiful leather gloves, long for a short or zipped sleeve and short for a regular one.
