Hairdresser chairs: what are there and how to choose?
A quality hairdressing chair is something that no salon or barbershop can do without. A high-quality model not only facilitates the work of the master, but also increases the comfort of the procedure for the client. Let's consider in more detail in the article what hairdressing chairs are, how to choose them and what to look for when buying.

All the variety of hairdressing chairs for beauty salons can be roughly divided into groups. If design features are the basis for such a classification, then models for hairdressers are of the following types:
- dynamic;
- static.
Both versions of the products have a base (five-ray). The professional dynamic armchair is a model on wheels, which makes it easy to transport furniture around the room. In a static analogue, the five-ray is abutted against a square or round metal base. It provides better stability of the product, but it is more difficult to move it around the room - you have to lift it.
A quality product rotates around its axis, has a height-adjustable seat, backrest, comfortable armrests and a headrest.
Depending on the method of raising and lowering the seat of the chair, there are several varieties.
- With pneumatic regulator. A feature of these products is the automatic lowering and raising of the chair when the client sits down and gets up from it. In addition, there is a lever on the leg of the product, by pressing which you can adjust the height of the chair. This is very convenient for the craftsman as the adjustment is done by pressing the foot. The pneumatic chair can have 2 types of five-beam - metal (hidden in a plastic casing) and with a chrome-plated steel pneumopatoron.
- With hydraulic. From the name it is clear that such models are equipped with a hydraulic lift, due to which a special smoothness is achieved when lowering and raising the seat. In general, hydraulic lifts work in the same way as pneumatics, but they can lower and raise the chair with the person sitting in it. And pneumatic lifts cannot cope with this task.
Important! Today in specialized stores you can find electric chairs. However, they are not very popular due to the high price and the need to connect them to the mains in order for the mechanism to work.
In addition to the possibility of adjusting the seat height, many chairs have an option to adjust the backrest tilt and fix it. As a rule, products with a reclining back are installed in barbershops - the back in such models can be lowered to 60 degrees. This almost horizontal position is used when shaving, for example. A similar chair is used near the sink. For shampooing, the client also takes a reclining position, the chair should provide such an opportunity. And in high-quality men's models, removable and height-adjustable headrests are provided.
Chairs can also differ in purpose. Exists standard height models with armrests are standard furniture. If the furniture has high legs, a retractable headrest and a footrest, then this is a visage chair. This type of furniture is stuffed with polyurethane foam. It can be block (i.e. foam rubber) and molded (called PU foam). The first one is cheaper, but poorly restores its shape; with active use on such a chair (with foam rubber padding), dents quickly appear. If it is used as PPU padding, then the chair quickly restores its shape, does not fail and lasts longer.
In barbershops and men's salons, more durable chairs are usually installed - they have massive five-beams and a wide back. Chairs for women's salons are usually more graceful, soft. They have a footrest. There are also children's hairdressing chairs.
The purpose of the manufacturer in their manufacture is to interest the kids, therefore the furniture has an unusual shape (in the form of cars, houses, animals), characterized by colorful design, the presence of buttons and levers that the kid can turn during the haircut process. In addition, children's models are usually taller (for the convenience of the master) and have various handrails and restraints to ensure its safe operation.
Materials and colors
From the point of view of the materials used for the upholstery of the chair, there may be premium and economy class... Budget designs are usually sheathed with inexpensive materials - special types of fabric, dermantine. As a rule, such chairs do not have hydraulic lifts, an option to block the lift. More expensive models have not only constructive "gadgets" that increase their functionality, but are also upholstered with more expensive materials. These are expensive analogs of natural leather.
According to sanitary standards, armchairs should be easy to wash and disinfect, so they are not sheathed with fabric (furniture or velor) or natural leather. But leatherette (artificial leather, vinyl) is allowed for use. Vinyl is more attractive and functional. In addition, in its appearance it is as similar as possible to natural leather. Polyurethane leather gets good reviews. It is not the cheapest synthetic material, but the higher price is justified. The material is dense, holds its shape well, and is easy to clean.
A hairdressing chair should be not only practical and functional, but also attractive in appearance. Undoubtedly, it should harmoniously fit into the interior of the cabin. It is clear that light and cream shades cannot be called practical. However, if only such chairs fit into the style of the interior, then opt for light smooth vinyl covers. But light materials with embossing, cracks and a similar texture, models with a carriage coupler are not the best option, they will quickly become dirty and difficult to clean.
Black is considered standard and non-marking. In addition, chairs in this range are usually always available from suppliers. However, it is hardly suitable for creating a unique design.
If you are looking for dark shades of upholstery and at the same time want to get a custom design, choose the color of dark chocolate, wine, bottle glass. It is the chairs with such upholstery that are used in the premium segment.
Cover options
To protect the chair today, craftsmen are encouraged to use special covers, which are dense polyethylene linings that are worn primarily on the headrests. They can be elastic or zipped. The latter, as a rule, provide a better fit for the cover, but are more expensive. Products differ in the density of the material. It is clear that denser ones last longer and can be rinsed under water.
Tips for selection and operation
When choosing a chair, pay attention to the materials used. Plastic is not always a bad thing; it can often significantly reduce the cost of a product. It is important that it is a high quality non-porous plastic. This will quickly crack and literally crumble during operation. Quality plastic is durable, but quite flexible. All parts of such a product fit tightly to each other, do not creak, do not bend.
Important! If you want to save money, it is better to choose models with a plastic five-beam (that is, the base of the model is metal, the rest of the elements are made of plastic). Such a chair will last longer than analogs with a plastic base.
If you plan to frequently move the chair around the hall, then it is more convenient to use the models on casters. but the foreman needs to be careful when working - an awkward movement can cause the client to move... The cost of the chair largely depends on the type of "lift". The most expensive are those that equipped with an electric drive. The master does not need to select the height of the chair rise - you should press the button on the remote control and everything will be done in automatic mode.
Structures with a lift are more affordable. hydraulic or pneumatic type. Their differences are described above. "Hydraulics" is recommended for establishments with high traffic, that is, where the master often has to change the height of the chair, adjusting to different clients. But the pneumatic lift is not designed for frequent position changes. If such a product will stand in a passenger compartment with high traffic, then it will quickly turn out to be faulty.
When choosing a product, the design of the chair should be taken into account - it should complement the interior of the cabin, match in color. Pay attention to the armrests as they also create the style of the chair. The most practical are plastic ones. Wooden ones look unusual and respectable, but quickly deteriorate. Chrome plated also attract attention, are durable, easy to care for, but cool down quickly in cold weather, which creates discomfort for the client (cool down).
Finally, when choosing, you should pay attention to the brand of the chair, giving preference to models from well-known manufacturers. More expensive furniture is made in Germany, America, Italy and Japan. More affordable are Chinese, Polish and domestic models.
