Colors

Pekingese dogs are often red. This color is considered the most popular, it can vary in shades, but in any case it looks beautiful. Tones are referred to red color:

  • light red hair;
  • Red;
  • gold;
  • ginger.

These nuances are not written in the pedigree in any way, where the main color is indicated without specifying the shade.

Another common color for dogs of this breed is pale yellow. Variations from the lightest to dark walnut shades are possible here. Very often this color has a black mask.

White Pekingese is a less common variety; these include the color of milk, cream... At the same time, white dogs do not always have a black or dark mask, nose, rim near the eyes, mouth. Different tones are possible here.

Not too fluffy, but very beautiful white and black Pekingese are even rarer. Since they have less wool, they are rarely propagated in nurseries, giving preference to representatives of the fluffier ones. Current trends are developing in such a way that the championship is gradually won by dogs with white in color - white-black and white-red.

International standards

In communities of dog breeders of any level, there are certain exterior standards in which color holds a special place.

There are some discrepancies in the names of the shades in the formation of the dog's documents. For example, the standard rules of the US organization include, in addition to the main colors, also such shades as sable, variegated, red. Dogs of two shades, as a rule, can have spots of any size, but they must be interrupted by the pattern. The standard of domestic dog handlers assumes the following color names:

  • black, black and fawn;
  • gray, gray-red;
  • brown;
  • pale yellow;
  • spotted;
  • White.

As for spotted dogs, spotting is characterized by the dominant shade of the main type - white-red, black-red, for example. If the main color is one, but there is a spotting in the area of the limbs, head, chest, then it is determined by the second color.

Regardless of nationality, some types of Pekingese are discarded: albino Pekingese and liver color. Hepatic dogs have lobes of a pinkish tint, a light tone of the eyes, the absence of a black edging on the muzzle. As for albinos, there is also no dark pigment in the color of the nose and muzzle. Albinos differ from the white Pekingese in the following characteristics:

  • the white Pekingese has a dark nose, the albino has a light nose;
  • the outline on the muzzle in white dogs is dark, in albinos it is absent;
  • the eyes of the white dog are brown, the albino is blue.

The Pekingese is considered the only breed that does not disqualify any shades other than the above. In other breeds, there are also no 100% albinos.

Breeding rules

In order to find a white Pekingese in the nursery, you need to try. There are not many breeders in the world specializing in this color. In order to raise snow-white champions, you have to take care of who the dog will happen to. Most often, breeders with this goal acquire a pair of boiling white dogs.

Experts note that white is not dominant, it gradually recesses, giving way to other pigments, so only white dogs are taken for mating.

In the case when white dogs are crossed with other colors, one puppy in the litter may be white, but this will already be an accident. At the same time, the puppy is unlikely to have exactly a snow-white color, rather it will be warm cream. Such puppies are most often monochromatic, and the muzzle does not differ from the general color. Such a dog, mated with a snow-white one, will give in the offspring exclusively white puppies, lighter in color. They can be creamy, light cream, white. Breeding white Pekingese without pigmentation loss is possible for several generations.

The first warning signs are lightening of the paws and nose.

In order for a dog to grow up to be a true champion, white representatives must have a black outline around the eyes, a clearly pigmented nose, paws, more precisely, their pillows. The eyes of the white dog are as black as possible, the pupil is practically indistinguishable. White Pekingese puppies are born pink and white with no black dots on them. Darkening of the areas required by the standard occurs after a few days from birth... You can not be alarmed until ten days of age, during this period, pigmentation at any time is fully manifested.

If this does not happen, there may be color problems.

Character

Pekingese is the dog of the emperor of China. Accordingly, his character is also "royal": proud, aristocratic. Regardless of color, the Pekingese is a brave, independent and even slightly arrogant dog. However, for all the seeming self-sufficiency, the Pekingese are very attached to their owners, they love to be in their company, they get bored when they are not at home. They are very jealous, so it is better not to have them in families with small children or other animals.

Maintenance and care

Keeping white dogs is no different from keeping animals of other colors. But the snow-white handsome man requires more careful care than his dark brothers. In addition to brushing, walking, washing, and other standard procedures, the following should be done.

  • Cleansing under-eye stains. They are invisible on dark wool, but stand out very strongly on snow-white ones. If this happens, every day you need to rinse the muzzle with distilled water or boric acid solution. Shampoos are often used for babies that do not sting the eyes.
  • Wool cleaning. Grass, dirt, earth, asphalt - all this leaves very noticeable traces after each walk on the white fur. Keeping your pet locked up is a bad idea, the dog needs to take plenty of walks on a regular basis. Special cleaning agents help to maintain the good condition of the coat.

Care products for Pekingese are available depending on the color of the coat. Experts recommend using those that are designed for snow-white tones. Care should be taken to use products with the addition of purple or blue pigments. They perfectly remove yellowness, but if you use them often, the coat will acquire a bluish tint.

When choosing shampoos, make sure that there are no substances in the composition that act as bleaches, chemicals. They dry wool and leather, spoil their quality and appearance, although they remove stains.

In order to prevent the coat from tangling and easy to comb, you can use conditioners with moisturizing ingredients. There are products that are applied after washing, before cleaning. In addition, it is recommended to use special balms for the lower coat: on the paws, belly. They have a repellent property, do not allow the hairs to stain from external influences.
