Tapestry bedspreads - jacquard, for a bed measuring 220x240 cm and with other indicators of length and width - are always popular with connoisseurs of high-quality home textiles. The composition of the fabric is standardized in accordance with GOST, natural fibers always prevail in it, and different methods of weaving of threads allow you to get original decor on the surface of the fabric. Before choosing solid and multi-colored tapestry bedspreads for your home, it is worth learning a little more about the features and benefits of such products.

Peculiarities

Tapestry bedspreads are made from a special material also known as trellis. It is woven by hand or machine, using silk or woolen threads to create patterns on a denser basis. It is known that tapestries were used in ancient Egypt. But this type of decorative art gained its modern name and massive popularity in France.

Modern tapestry canvases are produced in accordance with GOST 24220-80. They are classified as furniture upholstery fabrics, the composition of the material and density, as well as production technologies are standardized by this document. The basis for bedspreads, which are made from tapestry, are semi-woolen or semi-linen fibers, as well as pure cotton.

You can find products made of polyester, viscose and acrylic, natural silk, pure wool.

The most important feature of tapestry is its density. The same material is used for blankets as for furniture upholstery. It has a density of 250 to 350 g / m2.

Other benefits of tapestry bedspreads.

  1. Crease resistance. The material is practically not susceptible to the formation of creases, wrinkles.Even when folded for a long time, the tapestry will easily unfold after it is unrolled.
  2. Wear resistance. Subject to the production technology, a textile product with a three-layer structure will serve its owner for decades without losing its attractiveness.
  3. Color preservation. Even in contact with the rays of the sun, the material does not burn out too quickly. In the bedroom or in the living room, he is not at all threatened with such problems. If you follow the rules of care, a single-color fabric or a multi-color pattern will not change its color.
  4. Resistance to deformation. The fibers of the fabric do not stretch. The bedspread retains its original dimensions well without shrinkage.
  5. Nice texture. The material, although it does not have the softness of fleecy products, is very pleasant to the touch. Its original structure and natural composition allow not to feel discomfort upon contact.

Tapestry bedspreads do a good job of protecting furniture from damage, sharp animal claws. They do not allow moisture to pass through too quickly, and are suitable for homes with small children.

Views

All tapestry bedspreads are made using jacquard weave technique. There are from 3 to 5-6 separate layers, connected to each other on the machine or manually. The ornament is not formed by coloring the finished canvases - instead, the pattern is immediately created from threads of different colors, weaving them into complex patterns.

The most common tapestry is one-sided - it is cheaper to manufacture, two-sided items are more expensive.

In addition, bedspreads from it are of the following types.

  • Single layer. In the composition of such textiles, there is only one type of fabric. Tapestry can be woven from cotton with the addition of wool, silk, polyester. In inexpensive products, the share of synthetic fibers reaches 70%, in the highest quality does not exceed 30%.
  • Lined. These bedspreads are made from 2 types of fabric. The lower part is represented by a velor backing, the upper part is a tapestry. This combination allows the product to be used as a blanket, hiding with it, and prevents it from slipping off the bed linen.

These are the main varieties found on the market. In addition, the cape can be classified by purpose: for a cot, sofa, bed with 1 or 2 berths.

Dimensions (edit)

The size range of tapestry bedspreads is not too large. They are mainly produced in 3 main categories:

  • single, with a length of 190 or 200 cm and a width of 1 m;
  • one and a half (for 1.5-bed linen and beds), 150x200 or 150x210 cm;
  • double, with dimensions 220x240 cm.

Baby bed covers are 80-100 cm wide and 140-160 cm long.

Design

Beautiful tapestry products, created by hand or by machine, even in a monochromatic design, look very decorative due to the intricate weaving of threads. The design of such bedspreads can be quite variegated, reminiscent of patchwork or other folk crafts. Tassels or fringes around the edges give these capes a poncho-like appearance.

Products with ethnic ornaments look very interesting: Indian, Peruvian, Caucasian, in Russian style. Such a blanket looks more like a carpet, it has a complex pattern on the surface. The concentric circle ornament is quite popular with modern manufacturers. Such products are decorated in bright, variegated colors. Animalistic, floristic, abstract patterns, both gentle and bright, catchy, look no less interesting.

How to choose?

There are many factors to consider when choosing the right tapestry bedspread.

  1. Purpose of the product. Models with soft lining are used for covering, they can be used as a blanket. It is customary to lay a single-layer tapestry on a bed or on upholstered furniture. Small items can be placed on a changing table or in a stroller as a rigid base.
  2. Color spectrum. Too bright and colorful products will be appropriate only in interiors decorated in ethnic style. Pastel, calm colors in the bedroom will be much more appropriate.
  3. Execution. The strongest and most durable models are considered to be with two layers of fabric and a wide edging around the perimeter. A quality natural tapestry with a single layer structure will also last a long time. Products with a high content of synthetic fibers are considered the most fragile.
  4. Design. A bedspread for a bed or a sofa should be different from other decorative elements, otherwise home textiles will simply merge with the general background of curtains, carpet, and will lose their uniqueness and expressiveness. This material is truly unique, it can become an accent detail in the interior. You should not be deprived of this advantage.
  5. The proportion and the presence of the pattern. In small bedrooms, it is worth choosing bedspreads in light colors with small ornamental details or a plain background. In a spacious room, you can buy bed covers, upholstered furniture with a larger pattern. The abundance of decorative details - frills, lace - does not go well with the tapestry, makes it old-fashioned.

It is equally important to consider when choosing a bedspread and the size of the furniture. It should fall freely from the sides of the bed, reaching the edge of its frame, and, if necessary, to the floor.

How to care?

All tapestry products undergo special processing during production. They are impregnated with a protective compound that reduces the risk of dust and other contaminants settling on the surface. This greatly facilitates the process of caring for the fabrics, but does not completely eliminate the need for periodic washing and removing stains.

There are rules here.

  1. You can wash tapestry fabrics by hand or on a typewriter at a temperature not exceeding +30 degrees Celsius. It is worth considering that a wet product will acquire significant weight. It is necessary to think in advance about the features of its spinning and drying.
  2. Stains can be removed locally. To do this, it is worth using special products in the form of sprays or active foam. You can select a suitable composition in the household chemicals department. You need to check the new product on the corner of the fabric, where it is least noticeable.
  3. Ironing is usually not required. With strong creasing, they are treated with an iron heated to 100 degrees.
  4. A heavily soiled blanket can be dry-cleaned.
  5. In summer and winter, the bedspread must be ventilated in the open air. Enough once a season. Hang the textile product out of direct sunlight.

Following all the recommendations, you can significantly extend the life of your favorite tapestry bedspread. It is worth considering that if the fibers of the fabric are damaged, it will no longer be possible to restore the pattern, but you can make a neat repair using the darning method, choosing threads of similar color.
