How to weave a housekeeper from newspaper tubes?
A small and beautiful addition to the interior can be a housekeeper in an interesting design. Such an item is most often located in the hallway. You can do it yourself with your own hands. Today we will talk about how to make a housekeeper from newspaper tubes step by step.
What is required?
First, you should prepare all the necessary materials for work.
- Newsprint. Such paper can become the most suitable option, since it has a relatively low density, it will be as easy as possible to work with it and twist it into small tubes. And also you should immediately find out the direction of the fibers. To do this, you need to carefully tear off the strip from the sheet: if it comes off evenly, then the direction is correct.
- Instruments. It is necessary to prepare a metal knitting needle (it is better to choose this tool with a thickness of no more than 1-1.5 millimeters). In addition, in the process of work you will need a clerical knife, as well as several thin brushes, a sponge and glue (PVA and glue stick). You can purchase a special varnish coating in advance, it will protect the finished product from damage.
Weaving workshop
From thin newspaper tubes you can make a beautiful housekeeper in a variety of designs. An interesting option would be a product in the shape of a cat. To make it, you need a plastic bottle. For stability, you can pour a little liquid alabaster into it.
At the same time, you need to make blanks from the newspaper. To do this, newspaper or magazine sheets are cut into narrow strips of the same length, which are then carefully twisted and fixed with a glue stick. With the help of PVA glue, newspaper tubes are fastened to the base when weaving the product.
It is better to wind the newspaper on thin metal knitting needles. To do this, such parts are placed on paper at an angle of 30 degrees. Then the paper is carefully wrapped and fixed with glue.
When the glue has set well enough, the needle can be removed. The resulting paper tubes can be dyed at this stage of production.
To make the future product more beautiful and original, you can weave the tubes together. In this case, you need to weave strips located in a vertical and horizontal position.
You can make a cat's head using a small ball from a newspaper as a basis.
To make it easier to make the desired shape, the paper can be soaked with water and the resulting mass can be twisted, giving it the desired shape. For greater density, the ball is additionally wrapped with tape.
The head is attached to the neck of the bottle, and then they also begin to braid it with thin newspaper tubes using an adhesive mixture. To make a tail, you need to take a plastic water pipe of a suitable diameter. Its length should be about 1 meter. The tube is simply braided in a circle with newspaper strips.
The tail is attached at the end with PVA glue to a plastic bottle. Small ears can also be made from newspaper sheets by gluing them together.
Finally, the finished product should be painted and coated with a special protective compound. Mustache and eyelashes can be glued after painting. For this, an ordinary thin metal line is used.
You can make an owl-shaped housekeeper from newspaper tubes. To do this, you first need to prepare the tubes from the newspaper. They are rolled in the same way as for making a cat-shaped housekeeper.
The wider the strips of paper are, the larger the finished product will be.
The basis for the future housekeeper will be four blocks, each of which consists of four twisted tubes. They are folded crosswise. The place where they will intersect will subsequently become the center of the finished product.
After that it is better to fix the blocks. This can be done with rubber bands or rope. All blocks should be connected to each other, while braiding the central part with one newspaper tube in a checkerboard pattern, threading it under different blocks.
In this way, you need to weave 3 rows. After that, another paper tube is added, which is connected to the first with glue. At the same time, it is better to mask the joint so as not to spoil the appearance of the housekeeper.
The tubes at the base of the product should be halved. There should be 16 pieces in total. Further weaving will be done with two twisted strips. They will have to intersect in the intervals between the base, while braiding it. Thus, you need to make 4 rows.
Then the tubes, which are located at the base, are divided again. They are woven separately from each other, while forming seven more rows. All ends of the tubes should be masked. At this stage, the main part of the key holder will be ready.
After that, you need to make a small pocket for storing keys. For this, 17 additional elements are attached to the base tubes. Then, a deep plate with a suitable diameter must be firmly tied to the base.
The added newsprint straws are folded neatly to match the shape of the attached plate. The pocket should be braided, starting with the middle twisted base tube.
In the process of weaving with the gradual addition of adjacent base tubes, the pocket will expand. At the end, add a few decorative details to the resulting key holder. So, you can attach several bent strips to the bottom of the owl to make the legs of a bird.
And also at the end, using two moistened tubes located in parallel, you can form circles, leaving their edges slightly protruding. With the help of such elements, the eyebrows and beak of the bird are made.
The protruding ends of both parts are later connected to each other and braided with one tube. By these actions, the owl's beak is formed. To make the pupils, you can use a roll made from a tube rolled out with a rolling pin. It is better to glue the eyes to the base with PVA glue. After the glue has dried, you can hang the finished key holder in the corridor, if, of course, it is already decorated in color.
Beautiful examples
A housekeeper made in the form of a small house can become an unusual decoration. For the roof, you can take small strips of wood. The main part can be woven from newspaper tubes and dyed in the desired color.
You can weave a small basket for storing keys and attach it to the base of a decorative window, also made of newspaper tubes. Sometimes only a few small hooks are attached to it.
Another interesting option can be a housekeeper in the form of a beautiful swan. In this case, a base is made, which is a small basket woven from twisted paper tubes. It is better to immediately cover it with paint and a protective layer. It is better to paint with either white or black application.
Then, from the same twisted strips of newspaper, they make the head of a swan and its wings. To make these elements voluminous, you can use a metal or wooden support during manufacturing. Eyes can be made from rolled and compressed newspaper rolls. If you wish, you can decorate the finished product with other decorative elements.
